Where Can I Buy Cans Of Artist Quality Acrylic Paint

Acrylic paint is STICKY!!!?

Normally the paint used on models isn't acrylic, it's enamel. Enamel comes in little metal tins or spray cans. Acrylic come in tubes or big tubs. Enamel has quite a strong chemical odour, acrylic has a mild plastic-y odour. And lastly, acrylic dries over night, enamel takes 2-5 days.
Are you sure you're not using enamel?
If this is the case you have few options. Wait for it to dry. Or add thinners, so it dries faster, but you'll get weaker coverage. Or clean it off with thinners, start again with acrylic.

If it is acrylic, you could try adding a drying agent to your paint, available from art/craft shops. Paint in thin even layers with a quality nylon brush.

Acrylic Paint on Bamboo to Create Wall Art? Any Help or Ideas Appreciated!?

I bought a few bamboo beach mats (cheap!) and was thinking of painting (acrylic) designs or stripes on them to create some wall art. Nothing very fancy, just something to take up space and add color to a blank wall!

My question ... I don't exactly know how to do this ... should I prime the mats before I paint? What type paint is best ... I have both artist's and craft acrylics ... the area is pretty large, so would craft paint be OK? (I'd hate like heck to waste good-quality paint on this if it doesn't work!)

How to finish it ... varnish? I want to hang it in a bathroom, eventually ... what finish (or product) would protect the painting? The bathroom is well-ventilated, but I want something that will stand up to the humidity.

I would greatly appreciate any ideas ... thank you!

Where can I buy good, but cheap liquid acrylic paint?

Ah yes, the great American dream, that somehow the words good and cheap are not exclusive......

Ok....if by good you really mean "functional", we are on......

to Wal Mart.

The art section usually carries either Reeves or Rowney acrylics in sets of 8 to 24 tubes.
They are actually quite acceptable.

If you want cheaper still, buy some single tubes of the Folk Art acrylic paint (look for the ones designated "artists pigments").

Once you use whichever one of these you decide on, after it has dried, spray it with some Krylon Kamar varnish......it will make the colours come alive and preserve it for the next century.

All this available from Wal Mart.

If no Wal Mart is nearby, then go into any craft store and buy just basic tubes and mix your own colours (you need a red, yellow and blue, plus a white).

With those, you can mix any colour you want.

The Reeves or Rowney paints are fine, and with the Krylon you will have a great looking product.

The craft stuff is cheaper, and looks duller, but again, the Krylon will perk it right up. The FolkArt Artists Pigments are actually not bad.

Avoid dollar store or 'made in china' acrylics unless your good=bad, but their weak colours are still acceptable for some things (vandalizing the tax office, perhaps?)

The positive news for you in all this is that all acrylic paint uses pretty much the same medium and binders regardless of price. Big money does get you a higher pigment load and quality. This means stronger mixing ability, little if any fading and a high chroma (bright colours). If those qualities are not critical, the cheap paints are surprisingly satisfactory, depending on need.

If the latter factors are important, and by good you really mean "good", unfortunately, you can forget cheap. Higher pigment load and better pigments cost. You will need attend an art store, and then you are doomed.

Single pigment paints, higher pigment load, mediums, and brand hype abound:

" A pure acrylic binder sourced from a "boutique" European manufacturer, while more costly, imparts a unique characteristic to these paints, ensuring excellent adhesion, color retention, and working properties". (Old Holland literature).

The Old Holland stuff is terrific. But it would be overkill at the tax office.

What kind of artist paint is waterproof and durable?

I would recommend Folk Art Acrylic Craft Paint. It's sold in small bottles in a variety of colors at stores like Wal Mart, Jo Anns, etc.
I use that brand for painting crafts which take a lot of crap, and it holds up perfectly.
Here is there website, just so you can see what I am talking about here: http://www.plaidonline.com/acrylic-paint/brand/detail.htm

I would also suggest spraying the finished design with a type of sealant, for further protection.

How long will acrylic paint last outdoors?

I'm working on a project and I want to paint a plastic Rubbermaid mailbox, but it has to last forever (well, a long time) outdoors, specifically, in a wooded foresty camp area. Will that acrylic paint that comes in the little bottles that you can get at Michaels last long on plastic outdoors? I'm also using a spray paint, but I don;t have much of that, and I need some more colors. So, should I buy colored spray paint or will the acrylic last as long?

Where can I buy metallic gold paint?

It depends on what kind of paint you want.

If you want an acrylic craft paint (like for a small project) I would try a craft store like Michael's.

If you have a bigger project and you are looking for spray paint I would look at Home Depot or Lowe's. They should have gold spray paint in cans. Rustoleum (sp?) makes a good metallic paint.

If you are looking for a gold paint for an art project you can usually find metallic gold paint at your local Art store. It should be available in oils and higher quality acrylics.

Good luck to you!

How old do you have to be to buy certain brands of spray paint?

I walked into Wal-Mart the other day (I live in Utah by the way) and tried to buy some Krylon spray paint that I need for a school art project. I grabbed a few cans off the shelf and went to scan them at the cashier. The cashier wouldn't scan them for me and told me that I had to be 18 years old to buy the paint (I am 15). I had to instead go back and grab some ColorPlace brand cans, which are cheaper but I know for a fact that they are very low quality.

It doesn't bother me, but the brand also lacks specific colors that I want (they only have black, white, gray, red, and green). I haven't tried to buy the other brand that Wal-Mart sells, Rustoleum, because they are slightly more expensive and I have a feeling that I'm not of legal age to buy those either.

So my question is, would you also have to be 18 to buy Rusto? And would I be able to purchase different brands legally at Lowes or Home Depot?
