I'm buying some converse and it says "runs a half-size larger" and I'm completely confused. One shoe has men 7/ women 9 but another shoe has men 9 1/2/ women 1/2. Am I supposed to get a bigger size or a lesser size or just keep it the same because I'm a 9 and a half?

Large sizes begin at size 12 for men. Size 10 .5 is average based on studies done a few years ago, but the American male foot is growing in size. No need to look any further than teens. I’m a millennial and wear a size 17. XL for sure. But none of my crew have feet smaller than a 12, and the average around me is 13–14. When I was 11, I already wore a size 12. By the time I was a teen trying to find size 14s, 15s and 16s—then size 17s, it was really really hard to get anything to fit. Now stores stock 13s, and 14s and 15s are easy to find at a lot of stores. (OK, I still mostly get my shoes on-line, but its a standard size at Amazon and Zappos. Nothing really special, and in the past, it was!). Someone is going to say size 11 is “big,” but not so much today. In fact, in the real world, size 12 is fairly common. Especially in high schools. If you look at size studies, take a look at the statistics coming from high schools. The averages might be surprising to you. Just saying… as a really big dude with size 17s.

How tall are most guys with size 12 to size 13 shoes (U.S. sizing)?
My Husband is a super tall guy 6′9″ and wears a size 17 eeee shoe. His brother who is 6′8″ wears a 15. Once you get over 15 it gets a lot harder to get shoes.
