Where Can I Find The Book Of Eli The Book Not The Movie

Was Eli from the movie "The Book of Eli" blind? Or could he just read braille?

Despite the two answers you have already received to the contrary, yes the character Eli in the Book of Eli was blind. Watch the movie very carefully, and it's pretty apparent. He reacts only to sounds and smells. He uses touch to find things that are easily seen (he kicks a step going into a house at one point, so that he'd know where to step; he fumbles his hands around in a cabinet to find things he could have been able to see, etc.)He's basically a post-apocalyptic Daredevil.

What the hell was the theme of the movie "Book of Eli"?

So I went out with my bf last friday to watch "Book of Eli". It was either that or "Legion" (Ironically both have something to do with religion lol). Anyway, I thought "Book of Eli" would be less "scary" so I went into the theater expecting something good.
Not saying that the movie was bad or anything but I left the theater wondering "What the hell was the point of the movie?" I have some ideas as to what the theme was but I'm not sure. Could you guys help me out? What was the writer of this movie trying to get across to the viewers?

In the movie "The Book of Eli" was Eli blind the entire movie or did he become blind at the end?

He was blind the whole damn time...tripped me out too
But if you were paying attention there were little things that he did like when he went to the house withe cannibals he tripped on the step. And in the first house where the dude hung himself he bumped into a table. The whole time i was thinking he's mighty clumsy for a renegade fighter watever he was.

Which Bible verses are used in the movie "Book of Eli" as the last prayer?

Psalm 23:The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me.“Ask and you shall receive” can be found in Matthew 7:7“I walk by faith, not by sight” is 2 Corinthians 5:7“Cursed be the ground for our sake. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for us. For out of the ground we were taken, for the dust we are... and to the dust we shall return” Can be found in some form in Genesis 3:17–19

Was Eli from the movie "The Book of Eli" [MAJOR SPOILER]?

If u consider, that this movie is based on the bible, yes he was blind, because ELI the priest was a real person and was blind too (1. Samuel 3:2, 1. Samuel 4:15). There is a reason why the movie is called “Book of Eli” and not “book of whoever”.If you watch the movie again with this info, you will realize that he focuses on noises only, and not sight. There are several proofs for that and you will be amazed to see them, with this point of view.

Was Eli blind throughout the movie?

He was not blind throughout the film. He was blind before the apocalyptic event, that's why he knew braille. While he was on his mission of taking the Bible to the west, he received the gift of sight. During the film, he could see, and I can mention far more details besides the already mentioned in the original topic made by the creator of this topic. Shooting, fighting, the scene where he saw the bikers abusing of a woman... he was LOOKING at it and repeating to himself how he couldn't interfere, that he had to keep his way.

Once he completed his mission, he lost his gift. When you go to war, they army gives you your weapons, once you return home, you have to hand them in. Sight was a weapon God gave Eli during his trip.

In the movie, book of eli, was denzel washington's character blind?

The character was PARTIALLY blind. Alot of people have suggested that he was completely blind using these points below:

He heard the cat meow, thus enabling him to shoot the cat with the arrow.
He heard the vehicles coming up to the old folks home.
He heard the china rattle thus deducing that they are human eaters.
He kicked the bottom stair before walking up the steps to the old folks house.
He didn't see the no trespassing sign because he was blind.
He told the mouse that "you have to come to me" because he heard the mouse.
He says he walks by faith not by sight.
He says he can "smell" the people doing the ambush from "a mile away" (not sure of the exact quote).
He smells the ocean and knows he is close.
He kept clicking the iPod even though it said battery low. If he could see, he'd realize the battery was low. Only after clicking like crazy did he realize it was low.
He kept telling Solara to be quiet, because he was using his hearing.
When he flicks the lighter open and flicks it, he moves his hand over the flame to prove to him it works because he's blind.

But these points arent conclusive to prove that he was completely blind, he is actually partially blind, his sight is very limited to the point where he can only see silhouettes in bright light.

He will only travel during daylight
He looks up at the sky to get direction based on location of the sun
He only wakes upto daylight shining on his face
This also fits into the whole walking into the 'light of god' theme
Echolocation as suggested my some, wont work in that environment given the heavy winds
He rows across to the Alcatraz island as he was able to distinguish it by its shape
In this cell, solara comments on the room being really bright (i.e he used it to see around the room)
In the gun fight, he is able to see the shape of the enemies on the building but will only shot at them after they first shoot to confirm that they are enemies
He heard the cat meow, thus enabling him to shoot the cat with the arrow, there was not enough light in the forrest make out the shapes

In the movie The Book of Eli, was the character played by Denzel Washington blind?

I thought he was blind when I saw the movie. According to IMDB FAQ, yes he was possibly partially blind:“Was Eli blind? In the Bible, the high priest Eli was blind, and some might say that there are several scenes which may indicate that in the movie Eli was blind or at least partially blind. When hunting the cat, for example, he was sitting in a position where it didn't seem like he could actually see his target at all; when George says to them, "No trespassing, didn't you see the sign?," Eli says, "Sorry, I didn't see it."; says to Solara "I walk by faith, not by sight."; There is a scene where Eli walks to the edge of an overpass that has a piece missing in the middle. A sighted person would have realized it was impassable and found a different way around; the Bible, of course, was in Braille; he appears to have a heightened sense of smell; and perhaps most significantly, at the end, when he starts quoting the Bible, the camera moves in slowly towards his face, zooms in on his eyes and we see that his eyes are slightly "clouded over". This was more evident in the theatrical run of the movie on the big screen. On the flip-side, Eli seems to function far too much like someone who can see, being able to shoot a bird out of the sky with a bow and arrow, being able to take on half a dozen people at once in a brawl, being able to pick off people from 50 yards away with a pistol and so on. He also sees Martha's (the cannibal woman) hands shaking and suggests he and Solara leave immediately (though he could have just heard the cup and saucer rattling in her hands). Meaning that he's either fully sighted, or perhaps he can see things farther away but not up close, hence his need to read in Braille. So the possibilities are: Eli is blind and if so, he either trained himself to be able to travel, hunt, shoot, etc. like a sighted person would or perhaps God is guiding his every move, as Eli says "I know I wouldn't have made it this far without help.", Eli is partially blind, or he is fully sighted and anything to suggest otherwise is just a coincidence.”The Book of Eli (2010) - FAQ
