Where Is The Best Place To Buy A Chevy Crate Engine

What is the best transmission to use for a Chevy 350 engine?

First, you have to determine the torque output of the engine, since the gearboxes are rated by this number. Horsepower rating is important too, but torque is what will eat your clutches up or otherwise snap parts within the unit. The 4L60 can handle 360 ft lbs of torque and 325 horsepower. Its a good all rounder for lightly built 350’s and doesn’t require any electronics to operate. Its strictly controlled by cable hooked to the throttle so its an all in one solution, and you get overdrive and a good low first gear. It works well in most applications. The older 3 speed autos could take a bigger beating. The TH400 was rated for 450 ft lbs.The powerglide 2 speed can be built to withstand torque output of quadruple digits, which is why racers still use them despite having only two speeds. There are many other choices, but the main other factors are:Vehicle weightRear end ratio(some of the manuals have relatively high first gear ratios, since they were intended for cars with low rearends)Physical sizeElectronic shift or notNumber of gears(the more the better if your engine has a narrow torque band)Comfort(if you arent a racer, hard shifts may not be an enthralling idea)Cost.

Where's the best place to buy a crate engine for a Chevy?

I’ve bought many a crate engine for street rids and my own cars. All G. M. crate motors are made in Mexico.Depending on what you want… a racing engine, street runner engine, or just a replacement for a worn out engine. You want horsepower? Then you can find a few great company’s to build one for you.Auto-zone and Manny, Moe, and Jack-off are the worse 2 places I have ever bought from! They weren’t even put together correctly. Pistons were in backwards, and the main bearings were in the wrong slot!“National” makes good motors, and there are a lot of independent company's who do good also. But… you can’t beat getting them from the G.M. dealer itself. Better warranty, better service if something goes wrong, and they will help you with what ever problems you may have. Yeah, the dealer costs more, but you get what you pay for.

How would you put a Chevy LS9 crate engine in a 2017 Toyota Camry?

Without wishing to be flippant, the answer is with great difficulty. The Camry is a front wheel drive car in which the engine, gearbox, front suspension and steering are an integrated assembly that goes into the car in a very few steps. The Camry’s transmission will be pretty much completely incompatible with the LS9 V8.The only way you could realistically do it would be to engineer a rear drive chassis and somehow fit a Camry shell on top of it. There wouldn’t be much left of the Camry from a mechanical perspective.I guess if you wanted to build something for the drag-strip you could do this. However, building a street legal LS9 engined Camry would be a challenging and (very) costly project.

What is the most powerful crate engine i could buy for less than $10,000?

The engine needed depends on the use of the vehicle, a race engine doesn't live well on the street, a street engine doesn't run great times or speed at the strip. A powerful engine needs attention on a regular basis regardless of use. A powerful engine needs a chassis (suspension) that will handle that power, a drive train that will take the abuse, brakes to slow it from higher speeds, and above average tires if run on the street.

Ten thousand will get you 400 maybe 425 horsepower of naturally aspirated V-8, the higher the horsepower number the higher the initial cost, the higher the fuel costs, the higher the maintenance costs. Add that ten thousand to the several thousand needed to acquire the additional components to make your '70 Charger roller mechanical safe for you and everyone else on the road and the several thousand to make it look halfway good and you're in for a MINIMUM of $20,000. Jeg's http://www.jegs.com/v/Mopar-Performance/... lists a 360 Magnum 405 horsepower, 400 pounds of torque for $10,230.99, as you can see power isn't cheap.

The 727 is a fantastic three speed automatic and when properly built for high horsepower applications will probably be one of the stronger pieces of the drivetrain.

A former Chevy "street racing" opponent from the '70's builds Chevy engines in his shop at his home, this is what he does for a "living" all day, five and six days a week, $20,000 an engine (that's not his profit). I've seen as many as five enclosed trailers at one time in the parking area of his place, there were three there yesterday. And the man doesn't advertise, it's all "word of mouth".

What is the average cost to replace your car engine?

I've replaced numerous engines in everything from an inexpensive Chevy Chevette to a Grand Prix V8 in a BMW X5 AWD and a V12 in a McLaren F1, and everything in between. Engine replacement costs can vary wildly depending on application, the donor engine and who does the work. For most Japanese cars, there are frequently used Japanese engines available with low mileage. These are imported from Japan and are recovered from their aggressive auto recycling program. If you have a late-model Japanese car, this is usually the most economic and reasonable way to go, and most can be done for around $2000 out the door. For European luxury cars, the prices usually exceed the cost of the vehicle, so scrapping the car is unfortunately the best option, from a financial point of view. For most American cars, it's best to locate a good, low-mileage engine at a wrecking yard and have an independent mechanic do the installation. If your local wrecker doesn't have your specific engine, they can search using a parts "hotline." There are also engine rebuilders out there in larger metropolitan areas who can rebuild your existing engine from start to finish. You just leave the car and pick it up a few days later. However check these vendors carefully with the BBB and Yelp! to make sure they have a good reputation. Also, the additional service level may cost you more than you'd expect. I also recommend taking pictures of your car before you leave it with them to make sure it's returned to you in undamaged condition.

Where is the cheapest place to buy a 1988 5.7 chevy mercruiser marine engine?

If you have a motor that you blew up or froze, unbolt everything you can from it and keep the carb, valve covers, flame arrestor, and everything you can. You can then order a "long block" from any engine rebuilder, scrapyard etc. Just make sure you buy a GM TRUCK MOTOR and nothing else. Dont let a mechanic sell you a car engine (car engines are '2-bolt mains" and trucks all have 4-bolt mains.) you WILL blow up a car engine quickly.

What is the most powerful, street legal crate engine i can buy?

Honestly if you are building a supercar from the ground up, I'd recommend focusing on keeping curb weight down more than engine output. 505 horsepower is more than enough to motivate any vehicle. Most professional race cars do not make 500 HP.

With that said, I do not know the emissions or noise laws in your area, so I have no clue what is "street legal" or not. Off hand, the 2008 Viper's V-10 makes more than 505.

About how much would it cost to bore a 305 chevy engine.?

You can spend $125 getting it bored .060 over and another $1000 for a 340 stroker kit and still barely gain 100 hp. And to even get that you would need vortec heads. For all that expense and labor, you would be much better off just buying a 350 crate engine.

What is a good crate engine for a 1973 International Scout II?

I am trying to find out what a few different crate engine option's I have to put in a 1973 Scout II. I have heard Chevy, Ford, Pontiac, Chrysler and of course the standard 345 but I want a lighter engine and more speed than the 345 has to offer.

My budget is plus or minus $5,000 and I want to get the best engine I can get.

What I would like to be able to do is add parts to the engine down the road as I go to add more power to the engine like turbo or supercharger etc.

I was strongly considering a stroker engine but am not sure what company would be best for that.

I have heard that certain Chevy crate engines will drop right in to the scout II and I willn't have to switch out the drive train or anything. I think I heard that even the motor brackets would be good.

I have tried forums but I have gone days and still have no help as most the people on those sites view your thread and do not respond to help.

If anyone can help here I would appreciate it a lot.

Many thanks,
- Dave
