Where Should I Get My Cartilage Pierced

Can I take out my cartilage piercing?

Of course you can, unless it is infected with pus/lots of swelling because then it is best to leave it alone and apply sea salt soaks and/or get antibiotics from a doctor if the infection is severe. Depending on how long ago you were pierced /how long the jewellery stayed in, it might close up fairly quickly so bear that in mind. Clean your hands before touching it. Cartilage piercings have the tendency to get crust aka dried -on lymph fluid etc around them. This might make it seem difficult to remove your piercing. Apply a warm compress consisting of clean cotton wool and boiled, cooled water + a pinch of uniodised salt. This will help warm the tissue and removes the dried -on crusties safely. Do not just try to remove your piercing without any preparation as it might lead to complications /injury/infection. Better safe than sorry & it is no big deal after taking precautions.

Should I get my cartilage pierced at Claires?

No, don't get your cartilage pierced at Claire's. They use a gun there, and that can really mess up your ear. It can shatter the cartilage if they use the wrong type of gun, which hurts REALLY bad for a long time.

It may be more expensive, but go into a piercing parlor or a tattoo shop that does piercings. I know that's kind of scary, and a little more expensive, but you'll wish you did this if your cartilage shatters. And the professional piercers will give you better directions for caring for your piercings afterwards.

When I got my cartilage pierced it didn't hurt at all unless I rolled on it when I was sleeping. It was kind of red and hot, but that went away really fast. You get to choose your earrings at Claires, there are some really pretty ones. But you can do that at a piercing parlor anyway. The piercing is free but the earring is not, and neither is the aftercare cleaning solution (which doesn't work very well, for me anyway).

I know a lot of people who have had their cartilage done at Claires though, nothing bad about the store. I got my second holes done there. So good luck in whatever you choose!

Should I get my cartilage pierced at claire's/icing?

I'm 13, and have finally convinced my parents into letting me get my cartilage pierced. I'm a little worried about where to get it done though. I've heard some good and bad things about getting your cartilage pierced at clarie's. Is it safe? Will it get infected? Should I go to a tattoo parlor instead?
Thanks! xoxo

Should I get my cartilage pierced?

i just got my carglige pierced. there are a few downsides unfortunately. one being the location. it can make it hard to sleep at times because of where it is on the ear. it can also get tangled up in your hair but that hasnt happened to me yet. also, it can swell a lot (mine did) but it goes down after some time. it didnt hurt a lot. i think it hurt less than getting your ears regularly pierced. it also goes by really quickly so you dont really feel it. the cartligle is also thinner than the bottom of your ear, so it hurts less.

if you do get it done, just remember to turn it regularly so it doesnt get stuck to your ear. also, you dont have to buy all that fancy ear cleaner. salt water works perfectly fine.

hope this helps =]

Cartilage piercing...stud or hoop?

OH MY!!!!! I could go on about this forever, so I will try to keep it brief. I pierced for a couple of years at the end of the nineties, my teacher is amazing, and still piercing, he was one of the last to take his course through the gauntlet in san fran sisco (one of the originators in modern body modification)
IF I can get one point across in this rant it is to please please please not let a piercing gun touch your skin ever (again)!!!!!!!
Guns can not be properly steralized and will melt in an autoclave (what you would use to steralize jewlery needles tools etc)
Therefore if someone sits in the chair before you and they have hep c, chances are that you could contract hep c. By the way, that means that you could die.
Number two reason is that when a gun shoves a stud through your skin a mini eruption happens. You force an object into your skin, ear, where there is no room for it and it rips your flesh apart from the inside out. In cartilage it could break it all together, then you would end up with a floppy ear at the top. When you pierce with a needle (at a professional shop, ask about their steralization, grade of jewelry) the needle is hollow, it removes the piece of skin and cartilage, then replacing it with the piece of jewelery (usually a hoop to allow enough surface area to clean the piercing thouroughly). Your ear then gets an opportunity to heal around the jewelery accepting it as a new part of your body.

PLEASE TAKE THIS TO A PROFESSIONAL!!!!! Yes it will cost more, but it is safer, less painful and you will be less likey to get an infection. Plus hoops are more fun, you have the chance to change the bead, be creative etc.
Take care and do your research.

Should i get my cartilage pierced with a gun or needle??

I had my ear cartilage pierced with the gun and it didn't hurt until about a minute after and it was very painful. It stung for hours and continued to hurt until I took the earring out about 2 months later. I couldn't even sleep on that ear. Maybe my ears are different- but I didn't do well with the piercing. Now I just have a big scar on my ear because the hole never wanted to heal even after following piercing protocol. I see others with lots of earrings in but I guess it wasnt meant to be for me. But I remember it hurting A LOT!
I would say gun just to get it over with fast, and I would prob go for someplace other than the ear- but that's just me.

Should I get a stud or ring when I get my cartilage pierced as I have heard that putting a stud in after a ring is painful?

Different piercers have different opinions on what type of jewelry to pierce with. There are pros and cons to both, and once you find what works best for you, it's worth finding a piercer who likes to use the same jewelry you like to heal with. There is usually only a problem switching from one to the other after healing if it's through something thicker than regular outer ear cartilage.Rings: They accommodate swelling very well. However they will rotate through the hole.Studs: They stay put generally, but can be snagged by clothing and hair.My piercings tend to swell more than average, and I am a klutz, so I prefer to heal with rings.

What are the risks of cartilage piercing with a gun?

Several.Ok where do we start.Firstly guns are bad. PERIOD.If you are unsure about that statement then check out http://safepiercing.org they will clarify.Secondly cartilage is very different to lobe and doesn't do so well whilst being pierced with a gun. Here are some of the many reasons you should avoid having your cartilage pierced with a gun:Guns use blunt force to pierce, meaning they press the stud through your tissue. This blunt force causes cracked cartilage, torn tissue and can lead to severe problems ranging from hypotrophic scars to cauliflower ears:Guns hurt much more than needles(don't believe me? why not try it? And maybe stop arguing a well known fact)Guns use very short jewellery that often times isn't long enough for swellingGuns use cheap grades of metalGuns jewellery is badly made with unhealthy butterfly clips on the backGuns come with poor aftercare advice and productsGuns are often used by under-trained staff or by people who do not understand thier dangers and are therefore not accredited. This is especially so for cartilage, if they are ok with piercing your cartilage with a gun you should be concernedGuns do not get sterilised so they pose major health risk.So please don't consider getting cartilage pierced by guns they are a potential hazard and oftentimes will cause much more issue than they are worth.

Should I get my cartilage pierced on my right or left ear?

you should get which ever side you're more comfortable with. i personally have my left cartilage pierced which i regret because i sleep on my left side, so it bothers me because i wasnt smart enough to think of that for myself >.<. you should think about that too, which side do you sleep on more? because it will bother you for a little while. right side or left side, doesn't mean you're gay, its just a sense of style and for your own comfortableness you can pick for yourself and don't let anyone tell you other wise. (: and it actually doesnt hurt as bad as you might think it does.. i thought it was going to be PAINFUL. but it wasn't, at the same time everyone is different, so you might be more sensitive than me, and what not, so yep, hope i helped, and goodluck with your piercing if you're still going for it ;]
