Where To Start On A 1990 S13 Nissan 240sx

How many seats are in a Nissan 240sx?

2 in the front and one that is meant for 2 people in the back. Its only a 2 door and only has 2 windows. There is a funny saying between 240sx tuners that say 240 stands for 2 windows down 40 miles an hour. I miss mine :(

long list. I own a 1992 s13 240sx ka24de , all stock minus a mangoflow exhaust. car has 219,000 miles on it. i've worked on cars for a few years but a couple problems have came and it's struck me dumb.
i got the car ,it was perfect, 3 weeks later, started over heating, generally, replaced Thermostat (twice),water pump, radiator cap, checked all hoses, none broken/collapsed, fan and fan clutch, all belts were fine, even flushed coolant through engine several times. finally i said screw it and took off thermostat, takes a while but car heats up to normal operating temp just fine. it is NOT smoking , the only scent smells like gas burning, but VERY minor amount. the heater does work but only blows warm air, it's hot, but not as hot as it should be.- when all of that occured car had an awful time trying to start when turning it over, it would turn over and idle high than immd. die when put in gear. I Re-timed TDC(top dead center) it was off around 5 clicks, also retarded distributor cap and it's worked ever since. i have not put back in the thermostat due to no issues in performance. when car would over heat, the coolant would push back into tank and over flow.
there is No bubbles in dip stick, fresh oil, and properly filled. at park,neutral whatever, i do hear under valve cover what sounds like timing chain clatter but, for some reason i'm unable to get the center bolt off the valve cover off, so at first hand i can't get under to see.
the spark plugs are rich, but not bad at all. their all sparking normal. and all wires and grounds that i can get to are fine. it's been about 3-4weeks since re timing, car hasn't failed to start or run yet. But, i can tell the Idle level when starting, idling, is getting lower by week. if i put car in neutral also, once in a while it'll idle at 1200 rpms for no reason hot or cold. but as soon as it goes into get it'll drop to normal 500/600 rpm. when normal idle is around 800.
yes without thermostat my fuel mileage does in fact suck.
I ruled out cracked head/block and head gasket. due to there is no smoke coming from exhaust, or smelling of burning oil or bubbles in oil. running fine, and No check engine lights.. anyone have any idea or diagnose?

Myself had the UK spec 200sx s13 which is the US 180sx which had the ca18det engine great rwd turbo fun.
Common mods to these cars are the sr20det engine or the RB26dett engines.

1996 Nissan 240sx won't crank, not the battery.?

It's had a starting issue for about a couple weeks now. It will crank, and it wont turn over, so I turn the ignition off. Then I go to crank it again and it starts almost instantaneously. I was worried, but I had family problems going on at the time so I didn't investigate into it. The coldest night chicago's had in a while, a couple of days ago, I go to start it. It cranked really slow, and then tried to turn over but bogged out. Then I go to turn the ignition on again and nothing happened. No crank or anything. I did the headlight test to see if I had a weak battery, and the headlights didn't dim when I tried to crank it. So at first, I just took the easy way out and said, just jump it any way. So I tried to jump it, and nothing. I came home later and checked all of the fuses, relays (clutch safety switch, fuel pump relay, etc.) and they all turned up clean. I checked the fuel pump, and it was working fine (i had someone turn the ignition on, and i listened to hear it cycle). That came up clean. I'm thinking now, that it might be a bad connection from the battery to the solenoid. Seeing as how the bendix drive won't even spring out, it might be a bad connection to ground, or maybe a bad connection from the battery, a short, i'm not even sure. But at this point, i've run out of all other options. The battery is running 9 volts, because the car has been sitting for three days, and i've been trying to crank it constantly. It's been on the trickle charger since.

So, i'm pretty sure it's the solenoid. I just need to know where the hell my starter even is! I can't see it from the engine bay, and I can't lift the car till the weekend.

but can anyone explain to me why it would crank, then not turn over, the turn over instantly as soon as you want to crank it again? I thought that maybe I had water in my fuel lines, and they kept freezing, so i put heet in my tank, but nothing happened.
