Which Car Should I Get For College

Should I bring my car to college?

No.No.Did I say NO?The quickest way to lose any financial aid is to bring a car to college. Most colleges will Not allow a freshman to have a car on campus.Getting a Parking Permit at a college can cost you several Hundred dollars per Term.Neither of my sons (graduating in 2013 and 2014) had a car while at college, and they were six hours from home. Not necessary.Period.

What car should I get for college?

Screw low mileage, you want something with a massive amount of miles on it yet is still somewhat new. Something like a 3- year old car with 150k on it. Or a 4 year old car with 200k. 50k per year is a good range of “high” miles. 35k-45k miles per year can still lead to a great deal.In order for a car to accumulate that many miles per year, it essentially has to be on the highway all the time. That is a near-zero-wear state for the engine and transmission and many critical parts.Yet the car’s “value” will mistakenly be depressed by the very high miles because of the myth that the car will have a lot of wear. Thus, you can get a better car for WAY less money by finding something with high miles but few years. The LAST thing you want in college is a car loan, especially since you will likely end up with some student loan or credit card debt (neither of which I recommend, just saying it’s common). Graduating college only to be enslaved to a mountain of debt is a BAD CALL.

What car should i buy under 20k[college student]?

Im looking to buy a car that gives good highway mileage and is under 20grand because im a college student who works full time. could i get some suggestions about what car i should buy, no coupes though please :) thanks

Do you really need a car for college?

It depends on the college you go to. If you go to a bigger school, or even a school in a small town, it might be helpful to have a car to make it easier to get around. However, a lot of big schools do have pretty good transportation options (like a shuttle to Target every couple of weeks, or a ride into town). If you're going to school in an urban area, then it's likely that there will be a lot public transportation options. However, it's important to remember that the bus/subway/what have you cost money, which is not always available to poor college kids.

Also, if you're a freshman, a lot of colleges ask that you don't a car just so you can get used to campus life. I haven't seen a car as being a huge distraction from academics/college in general.

All in all, it's really up to you, but I've never really needed a car at school.

What car should a college student buy for under $5000?

It should be reliable, fuel efficient, and cheap to fix. Common but not well-loved - that’s where the bargains are. Not too old, preferably. Nowadays all cars are engineered to get to 150k miles, but age and weather still take their toll, so you’d want to get something newer even if you have to take higher mileage to get under your price cap.I’d look at:Ford FocusFord Fiesta, but only a manual-transmission Fiesta — the Fiesta’s automatic trans tends to chew itself to bits.Chevy CruzeKia Rio (Kia and Hyundais give you a fighting shot at getting one still under warranty)Hyundai ElantraKia SoulFord Ranger pickup - an exception to my “buy something recent” - these things are remarkably durableMazda Miata - maybe not practical given the two seats and small trunk, but they are very reliable and durable. And you’re young - you should have some fun if you can. You can get one in the 1993–2000 range under your price cap.Pontiac Vibe - This is the same exact car as the Toyota Matrix, which is essentially a Corolla hatchback. But the Pontiac nameplate makes them considerably cheaper on the used market. Bit of an arbitrage window.Avoid Hondas and Toyotas, which are overvalued on the used market. FWD Mazdas are sadly not that reliable. Small Chryslers are also statistically less reliable than average.

Should i get a motorcycle or a car for college?

i'm currently 16, a sophomore in h.s. i got a job to save up for either a car or motorcycle. most likely the car would be a stick shift mustang, and the motorcycle a harley davidson softail heritage classic. i know cars are more practical in everyday life, but in college i may not need to drive so much, so why not do it in style? i am willing to go anywhere in the us for college, and if it was somewhere warm i wouldnt need to worry about snow. even if it wasent warm year round i dont mind riding in the cold. i currently ride my bicycle to school EVERYDAY. even winter with snow.

So basically i guess its a question of practicality vs desire.

How can a college student buy a new car?

I feel your pain...lol,Been there myself, although it was many years ago,Get with your parents or relative that will be willing to co-sign for you,you should also be able too get better rates if you are a full-time college student.Unless you have some really good collateral you will never be able to do it on your own especially in these times, and remember, your co-signer will have to have good credit and alot of trust in you....this is also one of the best ways start establishing credit worthyness for yourself so dont screw it up...good luck
