Which Do You Prefer Boy Bands Or Girl Groups

Do you prefer boy or girl K-Pop bands?

Boy Bands. All the way.The way K-pop is right now, the boy bands are more appealing.1. Girl groups are often given extremely feminine concepts (which usually means some variant of cute or sexy), while boy groups have more freedom. Sure, they too are often unnecessarily emasculated (e.g. rookie era BTS or 2PM), but they still show more variety. As a headstrong American, I dislike watching grown women forced into Korean gender roles in music videos, dances, variety show performances etc… Even at the Idol Olympics, the stylists seem more occupied with curling the girls’ hair than tying it back for an athletic event.2. Boy group dances are more intense, often closer to the level of professional dancers’ than girl groups. Because of this, they look more impressive on stage and are more fun to do at home. There are great girl group dances as well, like The Ark’s The Light or GFriend’s many choreographies, but I’ve yet to see a girl group song with an impressive and fun choreography, as well as decent execution on stage. (This is where GFriend falls short.) Not to mention the fact that, with the exception of JoKwon, I’ve never seen a male kpop artist legit perform in 6-inch heels.3. Hip-hop. This genre is largely male-dominated, especially in Korea. Just think of B-Free’s remarks about makeup. The few hip hop girl groups did not fare well because of a lack of domestic support. True hip-hop boy groups (not just as a concept) are rare enough as is in Kpop, much less girl groups.4. I’m a straight female. Sex appeal is always a subconscious part of the package.Now for soloists, I almost always prefer female artists, but that’s an entirely different matter.

Why are boy bands more popular than girl bands? Why are mixed bands even less popular? Is it due to their songs or factors like looks, etc?

Boy bands have been more popular than girl bands for years. Even now, One Direction earn much, much more than Fifth Harmony and Little Mix. This is for a variety of reasons.1.)Firstly, teenage boy bands are specifically targeted to teenage girls. It's a recurring theme in which both parts play up to stereotypes: attractive teenage boys sing about how attractive somebody is (which the teenage girl can assume to be her). Of course, this is a generalisation. These songs can lead to a higher self esteem, which is a positive, as well as boosting sales.2.)Meanwhile, teenage girl bands do not have the same type of audience to appeal to. Their audience consists of mainly teenage girls as well, but as a majority of girls are heterosexual, their looks do not play a huge part in it. Teenage boys generally are not huge fans of girl bands, so the girl bands' audiences are often smaller.3.)A possible reason may be that boys tend to have more powerful voice(when it comes to bass and sopranos even) which apparently more people like.P.S: Some points are taken as a reference from another answer.
