What to do with fruit/vegetable peels?
I recommend compost. It's the best way really. Fruit peelings won't do you any good just hanging around the house, so by buying a proper bin would be the best thing to do. You can use them as fertilizer that will be good for your soil and when it breaks down, it will turn into soil and it will feed your crops. It depends on the fruit, but generally they are good fertilizers. Banana peels contain 3.25% phosphorus and 41.76% potash. These are two of three essential nutrients (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium) for plants. Cantaloupe and melon peels are also quite high in potassium. Kiwi fruit and their peels are also very high in potassium. Orange peels and probably other citrus peels are actually useful as an insecticide, as they will kill aphids. Most fruit peelings are mostly water. However, they are excellent food for earthworms, which in turn will aerate soil and increase the amount of available nutrients in the soil for plants to utilize. Some organic material that has a very high ratio of carbon to nitrogen, such as sawdust, can actually cause a temporary reduction in the amount of nitrogen available in the soil. The bacterial activity that is required to break down these high carbon materials will actually take in nitrogen and until the saw dust or wood is completely rotted will not be released. Any organic materials that fit this pattern would be best applied along with some other source of nitrogen, such as composted manure. Probably the best place to find information about the specific fruit waste you have available is a book published by Rodale Press, in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. The book is titled "Rodale's All-New Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening" and you can buy it used on-line for a few dollars. Here is a link to the publisher (you don't have to buy it here): http://www.rodalestore.com/webapp/wcs/st...
Can my bearded dragon eat baby food?
Yes, usually chicken and squash but don't do it unless you have a good reason. Most of the time this is given when they stop eating for some reason or have been sick. It is not a wise thing to do unless you really need too do it. There are so many things you can feed them without resulting to this. Here is my list and maybe you can find a few new things here to give him.
