Is this laptop suitable for me?

Daniel said well, MATLAB/SPSS (final versions) programs works fine on this notebook, but you should know that this notebook is 64bit !
Older versions of matlab (6~7) wont work correctly on 64bit processors and if you have 32-bit R2010b Matlab you have some issues when you want run it on 64bit processors.

Here the problems :
• MATLAB Distributed Compute Server may fail when both 32-bit MATLAB and 64-bit MATLAB are installed on the same computer.
• Real-Time Windows Target will not run.
• Data Acquisition Toolbox cannot connect to parallel ports.
• Embedded IDE Link and Target Support Package may fail to start Code Composer Studio.

Platform cross-compilation (for example, attempting to use 64-bit MATLAB to create a 32-bit MEX file) is not supported.

Would a Laptop be Suitable If.......?

If you're going to be carrying it all the time, then get the lighter one. However, if performance is a huge issue (doesn't seem like it would be too big of a deal), get the one that you can get the best specs on. However, I'd have to agree with the "Get a PC" comments. A PC would be much cheaper, and it will run just as well for what you want to do. There are also a lot more programs that you can use for a PC. Only get a Mac if you have to. Mac is just a fad.

Is my laptop suitable for gaming?

my laptop is in the dell inspiron series
i bought it two years ago for around $450
i have windows ultimate on it
i have gamebooster (a software that shuts down other applications and changes settings for optimal gaming while gaming)
here are my specs:
64 bit
intel core i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz, 2100MHz, 2 cores 4 logical processors
Intel HD graphics 3000
4gb ram
windows expierence index:
primary hard disk 5.6
graphics 5.7
Memory RAM 5.9
gaming graphics 6.2
processor 6.4
these are all from a 1.0-7.9 range

i also dedicated an 8gb usb flash drive to readyboost and added some virtual memory

i know it isn't a gaming laptop, but can it run call of duty ghosts and/or battlefield 4
if not, can it run black ops 2 or black ops 1?

also, in a year or two i will buy a new pc, my range goes up to about $500, give or take and i was wondering about any desktops that i could purchase apropriate for gaming, and with upgradable parts for later renovations.

Are HP Laptops Suitable For Gaming?

Depends on what HP laptop you're talking about. There are at least 100 different HP laptop models from the past 20 or so years.

But generally, most laptops are NOT for gaming. They MAY run games, but probably not that great. You need to check the minimum requirements for the games you intend to play. But chances are, that most consumer grade laptops will not be able to run most games, especially the demanding ones like GTA V, Battlefield, etc...

I have an HP J11-5CL laptop. It's a 17.3" laptop and it can run GTA V on everything at the absolute lowest at around 19-25FPS. Not exactly ideal.

The Steam client will work without any problem, but the games you download may or may not.

Is this Laptop suitable for my needs?

I am looking to buy a Laptop under 500 Euro. I will be primarily using it for managing photos, videos, music, watching DVDs, browsing the Internet and playing the Sims 3 along with basic functions such as Microsoft Word.

Which laptop is suitable for me?

I have had good experience with the Lenovo Yoga Laptop Series they are comfortable to use and are affordable. It goes without saying that you should get as much computing power as you can afford, Core i7 cpu with at least 8gb of ram and an SSD would be ideal. I would definitely recommend using a Linux OS or a virtualized Linux as it is a superior operating system and is well suited for programming (Photoshop does not work well on Linux but you have Gimp). That being said, I am a Mac user and would recommend spending a little extra and moving up to the MacBook Pro. I dont want to sound like a Mac snob so I will not go into a rant about how things just work and how much I love working on my laptop etc. But the fact remains that ever since I moved to Mac everything works as I expect all the time (and I expect a lot).  I have no experience with the new Macbook but it might be sufficient for what you need  and would fit your budget, not to mention that they are very lightweight and feel amazing to use. Most of the developers I know use Macbooks.

Which laptop is suitable for an Ece student?

It depends on a few things:CPU: Depends on your budget. i5 5th or 6th generation is the best value for money, particularly if you intend to run processor intensive applications like MATLAB or other simulation software. Though, you might even benefit from an i7 here as i7 as HyperThreading which isn’t avaiable on i5. But, sometimes the performance advantage doesn’t outweigh the cost. If you aren’t going to be running complex simulations or audio/video editing i5 should do just fine ( you might have to wait for things to load and get ready though).GPU: or the graphics card. Most of the softwares at a student level don’t require one. (like orCAD PSpice, EAGLE, etc). If you intend to play games on it, you will need one. The ones generally coupled with i5 aren’t that powerful though you can play games like DOTA, CS, FIFA etc easily.RAM: 4GB is okay but i recommend 8GB as it’s not that costlier and generally useful.HARD DISK: 500GB or 1TB is mainstream and enough. If you have the budget you can for a laptop with an SSD coupled, boot times are quite faster.OS: This is personal preference. I’m not sure but I think most of the softwares you might be using as an ECE student might not be available on any OS other than windows. I personally prefer windows 7MANUFACTURER: A lot of people have the opinion that HP laptops break earlier than any other brand( I don’t have any personal experience). Generally HP and Lenevo are cheaper than DELL. You should check the ergonomics yourself to see which one you like the best. Asus is another great option. Make sure to purchase from a shop that offers Manufacturer’s warranty and not seller’s warranty. Most of it is down to your budget.
