Which name combination do you like the best with middle name Katherine?

I love Elise Katherine. It's simple, yet very unexpected, as Elise is often used as a middle instead. I think it flows quite nicely.

I also like Felicity Katherine, despite the strong T's in the name, it's incredibly classy.

Which middle name for Serena?

1. 10/10! It's my all time favourite girl name :)
I like it mainly for the meaning, it means "bright, tranquil one", which I think is really pretty. It's very soft sounding, it sounds peaceful just like the meaning, and it has a subtly exotic flair. It's uncommon, I don't know anyone named Serena, but still recognisable. I think it has a good balance between traditional and modern, popular and unusual.

2. I have Serena combined with Catherine, so my fave combo on your list would definitely be Serena Katherine! I think they flow well together. My main reason for using Catherine is that it's a family name, but I do like it in general too. It's classic, another very feminine name.

I also like Serena Violet. I thought about this combo but decided Violet sounded better with another first name! I still think it's sweet though. I love both names.

Serena Rosabel is lovely too, and Rosabel is really unusual! It flows nicely, and Rosabel complements the style of Serena well. I think Rosabelle would look quite pretty too.

I actually quite like Serena Louise too, even though I don't like Louise so much! It's my middle name and I've always thought it's very plain, but the common 'ee' sound in Serena and Louise makes the two names sound really good together! Serena makes Louise livelier.

I've also considered the combos Serena Raine, Serena Rosalind and Serena Emmeline (my two faves combined!)

Which middle name do you like best for Bea, +BQs?

Bea is one of my all-time favorites. I think it's beautiful and intriguing, yet playful and spunky. I'm not a fan of any of the longer forms of Bea as firsts names (I adoreadoreadore Beatrix, but cannot get behind it has a first name). I just really love Bea on its own. I like it pronounced both with two syllables (BEE-yah) and just one syllable (BEE); if you have a preference with your favorite middle name off the list below, please tell me!

Some of these are better suited for the single-syllable prn., and vice versa.

➳ Bea Clementine.
➳ Bea Isobel.
➳ Bea Juliet.
➳ Bea Juniper.
➳ Bea Katherine.
➳ Bea Lenora/Lenore.
➳ Bea Matilda.
➳ Bea Romilly (ROW-mih-lee).
➳ Bea Rosalind (RAHZ-uh-lind).
➳ Bea Rosamund (ROW-sih-mund).

BQ: Do you prefer "BEE" or "BEE-yah"?
BQ2: Do you think Bea and August sound okay for siblings?

Thanks!!

What are some (female) first names for the middle name Blair?

I would suggest you write down 10 to 20 girl names that you like. Don’t preface it with anything, don’t edit. Look at name books, google naming websites, look through your favorite books, movies and shows or review your family tree for inspiration. Write down whatever you like. you can do this with your spouse or you can each make your own.Once the list is finished then read the names out loud. If you made separate lists, be sure to mark the names that you and your spouse both liked. Cross of anything that one or the other of dislikes. Now say each remaining name out loud with your Surname. In most cases the child will be called by just their first name or first name and surname. Cross off anything that is hard to pronounce or that you don’t like. Now do the same thing with the remaining names but say all 3 names together. “First Blair Surname”. Say them out loud and cross off anything you don’t like or that is hard to say. With the remaining names write out any possible nicknames (ie Cathy for Catherine) and the initials. Follow the previous steps to determine if the nickname would work with the middle and surnames. Check that the initals don’t spell something that would be an issue for the child later. You should now be down to 5 or less options. From here you can talk about the names and look up the meanings to see if that helps to narrow it down to one name. If you are down to 2 or 3 then you could wait until she is born and see which name suits her best.

Between these three baby girl names Diana, Lizzie, and Katherine which is the most meaningful and flattering? And why?

Food for thought - when naming my daughter, it was important to me to give her a name that was suitable for various stages of life:The cuddly little babyThe precocious toddlerThe growing adolescentThe assertive teenagerThe curious collegiate (assuming that is the right path for her)The career-blazing young woman (in whichever field she chooses)The new mother, wife and partner (assuming she wants children)The midlife woman with wisdom and experience, andThe loving grandmother (see above comment about children)I wanted a name that could grow and evolve with her.So to answer your question - in my mind, Lizzie as a first name (not a truncated version of something else) doesn't fit the bill for me. Lizzie is cute but does not command respect and seriousness at the stages of life when it's most needed.$.02.

In the U.S., where parents name boys after their fathers, why don't parents also name girls after their mothers?

EDIT 9/14: The question comments concerning naming use of Roman Numerals, Jr./Sr., etc. have been removed...I think the main reason in the past was that women usually changed their legal name to their husband's last name when they married, so the Roman numeral couldn't have applied as a continuation of that name.  More women these days are keeping their maiden name for personal and professional reasons, so maybe that will change. Wiki lists the use of Roman numerals being applied historically as follows:Used for "Names of monarchs and Popes, e.g. Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Benedict XVI. These are referred to as monarchical ordinals; e.g. "II" is pronounced "the second". This tradition began in Europe sporadically in the Middle Ages, gaining widespread use in England only during the reign ofHenry VIII. Previously, the monarch was not known by numeral but by an epithet such as Edward the Confessor." I think women DO use the first name continuously sometimes.  For instance, I am the third Katherine in my family going back four generations: my great-grandmother>my mother>me.  But Katherine Worthington III would have sounded God-awful pretentious, so, no thanks!  I also decided to assume my husband's last name when we married because he was the last of the Simmons in line to continue that name, which he is very proud of.  There are lots of us Worthingtons.  So I kept Worthington as my middle name and legally changed my last name to my husband's name, Simmons. Who knows, if we had had a daughter and she seemed like a "Katherine", I might have continued on to IV.

Eleanor Josephine VS. Eleanor Katherine. Which one do you like better? (Please read detail frist!)?

Hi Noelle :) I feel your pain, middle names are so hard to finalize sometimes!

I'd rate them:

Eleanor Josephine: 7/10: This name is beautiful in it's own right, Eleanor is a very timeless name, and I love the nickname options. Josephine is equally as pretty as a first or middle name (it's actually the feminine version of my father's name Joseph) so it holds significance to me personally. However; I feel like it's pretty long, sometimes a syllable count of three and then three works but here it's not as pretty as it could be. It just sounds off. Unless I mess with my tone saying it sternly aloud doesn't come naturally to me.

Eleanor Katherine: 10/10: I love both names, they both sound so strong and timeless, they never really "age" in my opinion. Neither name feels dated but Katherine is neutral enough that it can breathe some modernization into Eleanor without taking away it's elegance. This combination flows very well in my opinion!

If you'd like to include Josephine, I like it with some of your other first name options, you might consider:

Laura Josephine or Leona Josephine :)
