Who Was The Worst Teacher/professor/instructor You Ever Had And Who Was The Best

Worst Chemistry professor!!!! What's your worst?

First, to get over the worry, when you have time, go read Dale Carnegie's book 'How to stop worrying and start living.' It has some good ideas about how to handle the situation.

I feel for you, as I remember an incident we had at college. We had a fantastic chemistry teacher, and half way through she suddenly got replaced. The guy who replaced her was terrible (and thought everything revolved around his own private world). I later noticed a petition up in the student lounge to remove him, so I signed it (along with most of the class). What I learned was that the previous years students of his had signed a petition to have him removed, and that's why we started the year with the good teacher, as he'd been suspended. The students had found he was so bad the previous year they taught themselves. The guy appealed the decision and got his job back. Apparently he took credit for the test scores of the students who had self studied, who scored better than the students who attended his classes. But, the appeals board didn't know this.

I soon started ducking out of his classes and self studying, and when I went to get the results of one of my tests he asked who I was as he had no recollection of ever having seen me before. haha! I ended up scoring really high in chemistry even though I'd only actually sat through two of his classes. I think I was second in the class. The student who did better than me was going on to be a Doctor (where as I was just going on to do physics)

But, the important thing is to learn to work around difficult people. Bad lecturers means you have to put in the extra effort and study yourself. You may end up making a bad lecturer look good, but at the end of the day it affects your career. But, go read the book, it'll help you to stop worrying about the situation and get on with doing what is the right thing for yourself.

Has your professor or teacher ever flirted with you?

Never really seen this in college personally but then again most of my college teachers were really not attractive. But my senior year of high school I swear my english teacher she had the hots for me lol. The worst part about that is she was young and good looking. I didnt do anything with her.

Who was your worst teacher ever?

The worst teacher I had was an instructor at a junior college, where I was taking a class to get continuing education units to renew my teaching credential.

He ignored every good teaching practice I could imagine. As Daffy Duck would say, "What a maroon!"

1. He did not control disorderly students in the back.

2. He could not operate his laptop, and took forever to get through his PowerPoint presentations.

3. In a lecture hall, he held up small charts to his chest, and pointed to them to illustrate the point he was making. Like anyone could see them.

4. He used an overhead to show us an article, but he did not enlarge it, so the print was too small to read, and he showed it on an angled screen intended for an LCD projector that corrects for the distortion. So his overheads were trapezoidal, but since they were unreadable anyway, it didn't matter.

5. He showed real films on a real projector that were old and grainy with bad sound, so he had someone TYPE the narration, which he assigned as a reading.

6. In the lab, we were expected to do a series of experiments to test water from the local delta. He demonstrated the experiments without stopping, rushing through the procedures so quickly that no one could follow along, and we received no written instructions, only a sheet to record our data.

7. In addition, we were learning how to navigate with a compass and triangulate our position. The charts we received had print so small, my lab partner and I had to buy a MAGNIFYING GLASS - and can I see just fine, ordinarily.

8. All his tests had typos or were mis-collated so students turned in tests that had missing pages. When the tests were returned, most of them had grading errors.

9. Everyone was REALLY worried about the final, because it was on the last day of class, and we wouldn't be getting them back. How would we know if there were pages missing, or if the grading was accurate? I think he just gave everyone an A.

10. Oh, and I guess this wasn't his fault, but the fume hood was in the cadaver room, so we had to go in there to pour our chemicals, etc. Ick.

Do I win? :)
