Why Are My Lips So Dry All Of The Sudden

Why do my lips feel swollen and dry?

You say you aren’t allergic to anything. The thing is you may be and not know it. Sometimes we have low level allergies that we never notice because we aren’t exposed to them enough. But if you are exposed to a few of these all at once, or have conditions, (such as dry air) that sensitizes your skin, then suddenly those allergies you didn’t know you had flare up.You also stated that you use tons of Blistex and lip moisturizers. You may be allergic, or at least sensitive, to one or more of the ingredients in those. An interesting thing about lip moisturizers, Chapstick, Blistex, lip gloss, lipstick etc., especially if they are also flavored, is that they actually make people tend to lick their lips more. It’s an unconscious act. When we lick our lips, the evaporation of the saliva draws away even more moisture. So they feel drier. So we apply more. Which makes us lick our lips, which makes them drier…. It’s a vicious circle.Something else to keep in mind, which as been mentioned, is if you are exfoliating your lips, you are making skin that is already sensitized, even more irritated. This, along with any sensitivities to ingredients, could account for the swelling. What has worked for me when my lips have become severely dry and chapped is plain old Vaseline aka petroleum jelly. I slather it on before bed. After doing this for a night or two, my lips feel normal again. It acts as a lipid barrier, so it prevents moisture loss, is heavy enough to not wear off during sleep. Since you’re asleep, and it has no flavor, there isn’t the tendency to keep licking one’s lips.Of course if you have a sensitivity to petroleum jelly, this will not work for you. You could try doing a patch test first. Apply it to the inside of your wrist or elbow before bed. Wait 24 hr.s and if there’s no signs of reaction, it should be safe.If the cracking and swelling do not respond, or they get worse, see a doctor as you may have some sort of underlying medical condition as the cause.

Why are my lips dry all of a sudden?

A couple days ago my lips have been getting dry and cracked. Like I keep having to lick them if I don't have any Chapstick or something and then if I do it too much, they'll start to sting. I just wanna know what's happening. I think it's due to change of weather. Like summer to winter I guess? But I don't know. Someone please help.

Why are my lips suddenly so dry?

I have the same problem. The reason is that chapstick has an ingredient that actually dries out your lips more, creating a stronger dependency on chapstick. I am trying to cut the habit now. I've gone 2 days without chapstick, and my lips are a mess. Once you start using chapstick, your lips will be damaged. If you stop using it, eventually your lips can moisturize itself. Only use chapstick in harsh conditions (coldness, sun burn relief, etc) and don't become dependent like I did!

Edit: Okay, I think I found the answer. Last night, I smothered my lips and skin around my lips with regular Neosporin (not for lips, just the regular kind). When I woke up, I felt so much better. My lips aren't dry. They are healing right now. Please try this method before you sleep and let it sit on your lips around 7 - 8 hours as you are asleep. Good luck!

Why are my lips so dry all of the sudden?

So I'm actually really upset about this. I just started kissing recently, so I am afraid of kissing with bad lips. I use chapstick, I smother it on before bed. I drink a lot of coffee which is mostly water, but I can't drink pure water, I just hate it. I drink carbonated water, and soda and stuff. I also eat a lot of soup, so it's not like I don't get enough liquids.
I recently had them so dry I smiled and it tore my lip a small bit, so now I have a sore there, which is horrible. What can I do to fix this?

Why is my face all of a sudden breaking out so bad? Around my lips, mouth and under my nose. How do I solve and stop this?

It might be an allergy, impetigo, or acne, as well as other conditions. Best thing to do is to see a dermatologist. If it is acne, low dose antibiotic tablets work systemically to help decrease the bacteria in the pores of the skin, one of the main causes of acne besides hormonal influences. You also will get a skin care regimen and spot ointments. Some patients can achieve such good control that they only return every 3 months. Thanks for the A2A

Why is my upper lip so chapped all of a sudden, can it be viral or an allergic reaction rather than just the weather?

Sometimes people get chapped lips when they have a cold. As Tiersa says there can also be lots of dietary reasons and just simple things like - are you licking your lips? Are you dehydrated?I would recommend using a lip salve but be careful that you use one with natural oils in it (beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil) because petroleum jellies tend to dry the lips out (they make them appear to be hydrated but then the lip dries more).

The skin under the lip area has turned dark all of sudden which looks odd. Does anyone have an idea why this happened and what are the solutions?

Hey, Usually the mouth area is slightly darker than the rest of the face. But it might have turned dark all of a sudden due to sun exposure. So, make sure you apply sunscreen with a minimum of 30-50 SPF, to avoid this in the future. You need to use a de-pigmentation cream so that it evens out the skin complexion. Hope this helps!
