Why Can I No Longer Imbed A Photo In A Forum Thread And Be Able To View It

How to post Gif images into forums and threads?

I'm a member of an animation sharing site, and I want to show my animations on the site. The problem is that I have no idea how to post my animations on there, specifically gif images. My computer also won't play the saved gif images as well, and I don't know if it has to do with the security software or just the viewing software but it won't show. Does anyone know how to post gifs to forums and threads without using links to other sites (I don't prefer this method, but if I have to, then please tell me.)

It would be great if someone could explain this to me.

My computer is an HP Notebook, with Webroot SecureAnywhere security software (I thought I'd put this in because I think my security software might be come in play).

Can someone instruct me how to embed an image on a forum board?

You need to use the img tags. Go to where you have uploaded the image and copy the URL. Then wrap it in image tags like this:

[img]http://i34.photobucket.com/albums...

So if your URL was http://www.whatever.com/cool.jpg

You'd put that into your post and then put an [img] BEFORE it and then a [/img] AFTER it:

[img]http://www.whatever.com/cool.jpg[...

EDIT: Darn yahoo keeps cutting it off... [img]IMAGE_URL_HERE[/img]

Why do people post photos to Flickr?

Its a free photo sharing site that lets you set different Creative Commons rights. You can also embed these images onto other pages and sites that you use.It has over a Terabyte of storage. You can access the EXIF data of your file and share that too. It can be picked up by Getty images. When Flickr was very popular the group forums would provide lots of information on lenses, camera, camera clubs, image feedback etc. New sites like 500px don't have this forum based community.

I have a forum site. If someone posts a copyrighted image can I get sued?

Yes, you can be sued. If you are located in the US, and are mostly concerned about actions there, you need to become familiar with the safe harbor provisions in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. They provide you with protection in the case you describe, but only if you follow the rules. You will need to provide a way for people to contact you about copyrighted material so you can remove it on request. There is a lot of information available on how you implement the take-down process on your site, maybe starting with the USPTO document is a good place to start: http://www.uspto.gov/sites/defau... In the EU or elsewhere, there are similar processes and laws, but it is nearly impossible to give a comprehensive answer that solves this problem wherever you are located.- Mark

How do I post pictures on my Proboards forum?

Having my own ProBoards forum, I can answer this one quite handily :)

ProBoards does not actually host any images for you. You have to put them up on an image hosting site and then use the links to them on your forum.

I tend to use Photobucket for image hosting:

http://photobucket.com/

A bit of Googling will turn up plenty of other image hosts, should you need them. After four years running my forum, I've only ever needed Photobucket, but your needs may be heavier on the bandwidth than mine.

Making JPEG files smaller?(not the picture, the file...in KB)?

If you have Photoshop then you can try the following:

1.open the original file
2. at the top of the screen, click on "Image" and then select "Image size"
3. After the pop-up box appears, select whatever pixel size you wish
4. Do a "Save-As", giving your file a different name
5. Select a resolution size (5 or less usually works best)
6. then go to whatever document folder the new image is saved in. Either hover over the file or else right-click the mouse and check out "properties" to discover the new file size.

I hope that works because my brother-in-law repeatedly sends us HUGE JPEGs that take several decades to download. He cannot seem to grasp the concept of shrinking the file size.

How do you insert HTML into a forum post?

Most forums have their own editor when you post. Mouseover the icons on it for what functions they are. For example, one that looks like a Chain Icon is for inserting hyperlinks. The text to be used for the hyperlink must be highlighted before you insert the URL by either copy/paste or typing full URL.

Sites that use BBCode:

Making an image a link using BBCode:

[url=URL path to external link][img]http://Path to image[/img][/url]

If site does not host images, then you MUST host your image online at any good image hosting site. The URL MUST be the DIRECT link to the image alone and not to the page the image is on.

Text Link only:

[url=URL path to external link]Link Text Description[/url]

Sizing Image:
