Why Did The U.s / Allies Help South Korea During The Cold War

Why is US helping South Korea?

During the Cold War the Soviet Union Was spreading Communism, The U.S. didn't like that, when North Korea took over South Korea an Ally(we help them, they help us) we were obligated to help them. This conflict known as the Korean War is still not over, currently in a state of a cease fire.

We never lost the Vietnam war. all the people protesting against war in the 60's forced the government to Withdraw from Vietnam. we never lost we just backed out of the fight to let Vietnam come to its fate.

Last: *No, we cant sit a war out because what happens over there effects over here. EXAMPLE: for the first 2 years of World War II(1939-1945) we tried to stay out of it, we stayed out of this war and we were Surprised Attacked by Japan! After the War, uncovered Documents revealed Germany Planned on an invasion of the U.S. before we even became involved in the war, which means if we weren't involved in WWII and japan didn't attack us, Germany would have forced us into the war by attacking us, u never know. Plus North Korea hates us, they're brain washed that the U.S. is bad country(then again so is most of the world) so they'll bring War to us *even if we leave South Korea alone.

Was North Korea, during the Cold War, a Soviet-Bloc state?

During the Cold War, the world was split up into two blocs. The Western Bloc or the Capitalist Bloc consisted of the US and the NATO allies, while the Eastern Bloc was mainly referred to the erstwhile USSR and the nations from Warsaw Pact.North Korea was not in this bloc, but was the closest ally to China and USSR. The Koreans (North) have had immense economical and defense support from the Eastern bloc since they were communists too. But N. Korea can be said, was a Soviet client state.

Why does the usa turn a blind eye to north korea?

North Korea has a huge military that will fight back. Iraq did not. Case closed

Which countries were communist during the cold war?

USSR, China, N. Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, Laos, Cambodia and Afghanistan. These are the countries that have been through communism somewhere during the cold war. With the exception of Afghanistan and later the USSR, the rest have remained communist states until after the cold war.

Japan, India, S. Korea, Thailand, Pakistan, Philippines, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma and Iran were never communist states. I find it a little comical that you'd think that considering more than half those states were US allied during the cold war.

How was the Korean War an example of US Cold War policy?

The Korean War 1950–1953 was an example of the US Cold war policy of containment. Basically an effort to minimise the spread of communism. If context is explored, the fact China became communist in 1949, after the USA spent over 2 Million dollars to prevent this from happening, would have intensified USA’s containment spirit and spurred them even further to get involved in Korea. The Korean War showed the extent to which the US would have gone to to prevent communism from spreading. The first sign was the appointment of Syngman Rhee in 1948 to establish a Korean People’s Democratic Republic. This was significant in proving the American stance in Korea, almost marking their territory and making their position and ideology clear. This way they would minimise the spread of communism from North Korea into their “territory” which was marked by the Republic being created. In the case that war was declared and a communist attempt to spread into the South occurred, the USA would support the South, and fight against the spread of communism into South Korea, once again proving their containment policy. The extent to which USA would get involved in this proxy war, can be seen from the fact Truman sent over 75% of their army and navy into Korea, after the attack on South Korea on 25th June 1950. After this attack, the UN Security council was also urged to act. While all this proved that the USA wanted to uphold their policy of containment, it also proved that both the USA and USSR would fight in a proxy war to ensure the success of their respective ideologies.
