If someone feels very tired after 8 hours of sleep, does it mean their body needs more sleep?

Maybe. It could be you need more sleep. The average person needs 7.5. Normal range is 7-9. That being said some people need 10 hours, others only 6.It could be you lack enough quality sleep. Classic example is sleep apnea. You could then sleep for 10 hours and it might not make a difference because sleep is fragmented. It could be something is causing sleepiness. Individuals who are acutely sick get sleepy because of their sickness. Alternatively, a medical condition can make you sleepy, take depression. One of the symptoms is sleepiness.Medication can also cause sleepiness. There are other causes and this is not an exhaustive list by any means.Trial and error If someone was sleepy because they were not getting enough sleep, then sleeping more would help answer this question. If you need 8 hours and you only get 7.5 hours then you can do an experiment. Try sleeping that extra half hour. If you do that you may notice that you a) feel better --and may have your answer or b) don't feel better and so it must be something else.Bottom line: many things can cause sleepiness not just failing to get enough total hours of sleep. To receive a more specific answer, you should see a sleep doctor.

I haven't slept for 48 hours and I don't feel the least bit tired. No yawns, in fact I feel extremely energetic. Is this normal?

I like the answers you received and just have one question. Does your doctor have you on any type of steroid medication? I remember one time I had to take steroids for a week. After the first night, I couldn’t sleep. I had so much energy, I could work all night. Of course it was over in a few days and I was back to sleeping. As the others said, if it continues, please see your doctor. Good luck!

5 hour energy drink and sick please help?

Hi,

You made a bad mix... It's very dangerous to mix uppers (caffeine) with allergy medications. What kind of allergy medicine did you take? I would definitely recommend never doing that again. If your symptoms get worse, I would seek medical attention. I'm not sure how long ago this happened but if it's been more than 6 hours, you're probably in the clear and will just have to ride it out.

I know it seemed harmless at the time, but make sure you don't ever do this again. Energy drinks contain obscene amounts of caffeine, sometimes up to 20 times what is recommended for one day. The FDA doesn't have to approve the amount of caffeine in energy drinks, so it really sucks but this kind of thing happens often.

As for the allergy medicine, try and stick to ones in the future that don't make you feel weird. Like Benadryl makes a lot of people sleepy, and the mix with caffeine can make you feel nuts. Most antihistamines have a strong effect on the brain.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I would avoid the energy drinks from now on, especially since you suffer from allergies. Again, go to the ER if your heart starts feeling funny or you feel like fainting. If you're feeling better at all, just take it easy and try to make yourself comfortable until it passes. It might take a day to feel fully better, but stay hydrated (water) and don't panic.

Good luck!

5 hour energy made me extremely sick?

Last night I tried 5 hour energy with a friend of mine, and I ended up getting extremely sick. At first, I felt all hyper and not bad. Then 15 minutes later I started to feel sick to my stomach, and later I had VERY painful stomach aches, my heart was beating rapidly, I was getting really hot and really cold at the same time, and was feeling nauseous. And I felt like I needed to puke, but couldn't. Even though I tried :I

I barely got any sleep last night, and pretty much ruined the entire sleepover for me and my friend. Well, it was still fun in a way. Besides me feeling terribly sick to my stomach. I expected it to be like any other energy drink, but it felt like I took hardcore drugs and was crashing on them. How is this crap even legal?

I was wondering WHY I got sick. I'm not much of a caffeine person,, actually I've never drank coffee before, never liked it. But seriously, thats no excuse to feel like I'm dying.

So, any thoughts on to why I got sick? And why this crap is legal?

Just had an Earthquake I feel sick now?

I'm really surprised this happened to so many, including myself. For a few hours after I still felt dizzy and sick. I don't get motion sick or anything like that. It seems this is a very common experience since so many people felt like this. It's not just phsycological. When we are in a car or anything else that is moving, there is still stable ground under us. The ground is the center of our gravity. When the very thing we look to for balance is no longer stable, our center of gravity (at that moment) is lost.
It completely throws our bodies off. So much that after the earthquake is over it takes time to adjust back to normal because our bodies went through something very traumatic. I think especially if you never experienced a earthquake before. This was a first for me and I was very dizzy and sick for quite sometime afterwards. It's crazy, but I feel it is a very normal reaction, to such an uncommon event. I found alot of comfort knowing I wasn't the only one who felt like this. Hopefully someone who experiences this more often will explain it further. Is it something your body gets used too? I'm still very curious.
