Why Do I Get High After Eating Sweets

Why do I get so sleepy after eating sweets?

When you eat simple carbohydrates such as the sweets you described you have a sudden elevation of your blood glucose or blood sugar level and you will feel really good. Have you ever heard of a sugar buzz? That's what they are referring to. You may not always have this feeling but if you do, the problem is that it does not last long, because the body responds by the pancreas producing a lot of insulin to stabilize the high sugar level. This is a normal reaction by the body to maintain homeostasis or normalcy. The problem the the sudden drop of blood sugar, you have feelings of sleepiness and being very tired.
This is a normal body function. But sometimes with diabetics this process is over exaggerated or doesn't work at all. So it you haven't done so already you probably should have a fasting blood glucose level to make sure everything is ok. Talk to your doctor about it. But what you are describing sounds like your body doing its job. It's just always good to check things out.

I get sleepy after eating sweets?

If you are getting sleepy, that may mean that your blood sugar is (very) high. Make sure you are checking your blood sugar at regular intervals throughout the day to be sure you are staying in an appropriate range, as determined by you and your doctor.

Why do i get a headache after eating sweets?

Because your blood sugar is getting too high. You might want to get checked for diabetes. Sounds like you might have it.

Of course, if you eat healthy most of the time, it will be the reaction you have to just eating it all of the sudden. It would be a shock to your system. If this is not the case though, mention it to your doctor as soon as possible.

Good luck.

Getting hives from eating sweets?

Same thing happens to me when i eat anything with man made sugar in it ........ plus i get nasty tummy aches ........ try to get used to eating sweet fruits which are relatively low in sugar but will still quell the craving instead of the man made sugar ie ~ watermelon, berries, strawberries, pears, cantaloupe.

Stevia is a natural sweetner without the chemicals as is raw organic honey (both for sweetening either food or drinks) .... use them in moderation.

Please dont use Splenda ~ it is a neurotoxin that has been shown to produce neural, genetic and reproductive damage in rats ~ i reckon this stuff is toxic sludge akin to aspartame... here, check out these two links, they may interest you ~

Why do I get headaches after eating sweets or oily food?

There is no conclusive answer, but science is getting closer.Sugar spikes trigger headaches. What goes up, must come down. Natural food prevents this with fiber and nutrients. Processed sweets or carbohydrates often leave us with low blood sugar and our brains don't like that. Oily food... You are probably talking about vegetable oils that contain trans fats and large amounts of omega-6. Trans fats decrease brain function and increase inflammation. Trans Fats:  Bad For Your Brain  (soon to be outlawed is the U.S. 2018).Both sugar and unhealthy diets increase oxidative stress (Study) and this decreases your the metabolism of your mitochondria, meaning your brain is not metabolizing energy, meaning you will feel slow, tired, and angry. This makes sense as research is showing the brain actually shrinks from a poor diet (Can a Poor Diet Lead to Brain Shrinkage?).A leading theory is that headaches and migraines are a defense mechanism against this increase in damage from oxidative stress and inflammation. A poor diet increases your probability of dying and headaches say, "stop doing what you're doing, you're hurting the body."

What would cause low blood sugar even after eating sweets?

Eating simple carbs such as sweets will initially cause a blood sugar spike, then the insulin response will trigger and (unless you are a diabetic or insulin resistant) the insulin will cause the blood sugar level to fall rapidly. This is tested using the OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test). It is an old fashioned test. I sat with my mom in the lab for ages when she was tested but my doctor laughed at me for asking about it. No one has time for a five hour blood test anymore. If blood sugar is normal after eating sweets, the person’s metabolic control is functioning properly. If blood sugar is below normal a few hours after eating sweets, the person may be hypoglycemicIf the person’s blood sugar spikes then drops below normal the person may be both diabetic and hypoglycemic. If the person’s blood sugar spikes and stays high, they are likely diabetic. In the chart below, 100 is considered normal blood sugar. The green (Max) and blue (Min) curves delimit “normal” blood sugar controlAt Time 0, blood sugar is measured then a measured quantity of glucose solution is administered.Blood sugar is measured every 30 minutes to determine the person’s metabolic response to sugar. The diabetic’s (3) blood sugar starts high, rises and stays higher for the duration of the test. The diabetic who is also hypoglycemic (4) starts normal, spikes over 150, then drops below 100.A person with mild diabetes (2) blood sugar starts close to normal, rises above 150 but not as high as the diabetic’s blood sugar, then drops slowly, back to slightly above normal.

WHy do you get sleepy after eating sweets or simple carbs?

If you feel sleepy after eating, particularly after sweet or bakery products, you are normal. Eating sugary foods causes your brain to make large amounts of the neurotransmitter, serotonin, that makes people fall asleep naturally at night.

Eating sugary foods or those made from flour, such as bakery products or pastas, causes blood sugar to rise higher than normal. This causes your pancreas to release large amounts of insulin, which drives one of the protein building blocks called tryptophan from your bloodstream into your brain, where it is converted to serotonin that makes you feel sleepy.

Many people can avoid feeling sleepy after eating by restricting foods high in sugar and flour. When it is important for you to be alert, eat foods that do not cause a high rise in blood sugar, such as vegetable salads, nuts, seeds, meat, fish and chicken.

Now, if you are a diabetic, this is a bad situation because when you eat big amounts of sugar food, your blood glucose shoots up or spikes and you do not only feel sleepy but groggy sometimes because your pancreas do not secrete enough insulin.

What causes dizziness after eating anything sweet?

Why do I get immediate headache after eating something sweet? You are not alone my dear. The sugar headache, otherwise known as the Holiday Headache (because we eat so much sugar on Easter, Halloween, Christmas and other holidays) has a lot in common with a hangover but it can strike at any time we overdose on sugar. While most of us have experienced a sugar headache at some time in their lives it is not well-known in medical circles. It might even surprise you to learn that the exact causes of all headaches are a bit of a mystery. Scientists have discovered that both migraines and cluster headaches change blood flow in the brain, but exactly how blood flow changes create a headache is unknown. The same is true of the sugar headache.I view the sugar headache as a toxicity or dehydration event and while it might be an annoyance, it could also be the sign of something more dangerous. Let’s look at sugar Dehydration and see how it might cause a headache.Sugar DehydrationDehydration is a common way to get a headache and sugar can lead to dehydration. Eating too much sugar pulls water out of your body in two ways.Dilution: When you eat too much sugar, your body has to dilute that sugar to keep it from harming your body. This means that water is pulled from all parts of your body to balance the large amount of sugar in your blood stream. While this water-pulling effect happens all over the body, it is your head that suffers the most.Urination: One of the ways that your body has of getting rid of excess sugar is to dump it in your urine. This is especially true of diabetics, who have to go to the bathroom a lot.Processed sugar and processed grains both act like sugar in your body and this is toxic to the very blood cells that carry the sugar throughout the body.i hope this helps…

How high should blood sugar be after eating candy?

It would really be dependent on the I individual, the type of candy and of course the quantity.Several factors will play a part in it…Diabetic and non diabetic shouldn't be discussed in this as a diabetic will have grossly high numbers as they lack the ability to regulate the blood glucose into usable fuel. So, I'm only going to reference a standard every day health non-diabetic.If they are smaller the level of glucose in their blood will increase more than a larger person, similar to alcohol. An average 180 pound man would most likely not see blood sugars much higher than 160, even after a hefty portion of dessert. 140 is probably the norm after a Thanksgiving sized meal.BUT, if we change the source of sugar we can greatly increase the numbers. I have seen a healthy fire fighter who works out twice a day and averages a 5:30 mile get his blood sugars over 200. (Yes, boredom can make even the smart act stupid. :)Glycemic index is one way to make sugars work faster than insulin. Even fast acting synthetic insulin takes 15-30 minutes to react. That's why type 1 diabetics can technically eat whatever they want if they are aware of their Insulin response time vs their glycemic intake.Dates have a glycemic index of over 100. Honey and even donuts are in the 70s. So give any standard human being, or even a top fuel athlete a generous helping of dates, and they will, within minutes, have an increasing blood glucose approaching the 200s. Granted their insulin response will kick in and within minutes they will also regulate, but there will not be a long lasting effect unless the behavior is continued. They will get uncontrollably tired and may have a rebound headache as well as an increased thirst. The standard symptoms of an undiagnosed or uncontrolled diabetic. So for a healthy individual eating a standard portion of candy, their blood sugar should not go over 130-140. It can however be higher if more extreme circumstances are in play. If blood sugar rises over 200 and does not decline within the hour, said individual would most likely benefit from a doctor's professional diagnosis. (Meaning you're most likely diabetic and in a for a relatively crappy time…)
