Why Do I Have This Excruciating Pain In My Leg

Why do I keep getting sharp pain in my leg?

About twice a day for about 5 seeconds at a time for the past week or two Ive been getting this sharp pain right above my right calf. What is it? Why?
Someone told me muscle spasm but who knows...?
The pain hurts an area maybe the size of a pencil point maybe. Why is this?

Why is there intense knee pain after a leg workout?

After workout you may experience pain in knees. If this pain is not handled well then it can be risky too. This pain can even lead to injuries because your knees are made up of very delicate tendons and ligaments which hold together and interconnect with your leg muscles. To get rid of knee pain you can use knee sleeves which are placed over the knee so that your nervous system can feel that your joint's are at right position. Special and best knee compression sleeves for running are designed to prevent previous injuries from further damage and to prevent injuries while performing pressure exercises such as running, jumping, weightlifting etc. These sleeves act as a compression element which increases blood flow through all blood vessels of the knees and helps in reducing pain. Even after performing pressure exercises these compression sleeves provide support to your knees so that you should not experience any post workout soreness.

Can sciatica nerve cause severe pain in my leg and ankle?

Sciatica is a layperson’s term for pain that usually radiates from the back down into the leg, and travels through the sciatic nerve. The pain does not actually originate in the sciatic nerve, but usually in either the L5 or S1 nerve roots (the two are most commonly affected by disk herniations or other degenerative processes in the lumbosacral spine). Involvement of other nerve roots in the lumbosacral spine (L1, L2, L3, L4, S2 etc) is much less common.True damage to the sciatic nerve is very rare - it can happen after hip surgery, from direct injury as the result of an intramuscular injection in the buttock or as the result of compression in the buttock or posterior thigh. The pain is referred pain - although it is felt in the leg it actually originates in the nerve roots or sometimes (especially for pain felt only above the knee) from bony or ligamentous structures in the lumbosacral spine without involvement of the nerve root. Pain from the back to below the knee is usually from involvement of the L5 or S1 nerve roots, in isolation (either L5 or S1) or sometimes at the same time - L5 and S1 in one leg or sometimes both legs if there is a large central disk herniation or significant central spinal canal stenosis.L5 pain usually travels down from the lower back to the buttock, back of the thigh, outside (lateral aspect) of the calf and into the top (dorsum) of the foot and big toe.S1 pain is similar above the knee but travels down the back of the calf and into the heel and sole of the foot.In lumbosacral root disease it would be very rare to have leg pain without significant back or buttock pain. The same is not true in cervical root disease where you can have significant pain referred into the shoulder or arm without much in the way of neck pain.

Pain after leg falling asleep?

After my leg falls asleep, I get extreme pain and can't move. I've already fallen down when this happens. In a week my leg (usually my right) falls asleep at least 4 times. Is this normal? Do you get extreme pain? I've broken bones before that didn't hurt as much as this.

I had a sharp shooting pain when I put my right leg on the floor and now I cant walk, what could this be?

Thank you for the A2A.What could this be?I think this could be time you go see your doctor.Your doctor will need to look at your personal and medical history, take a detailed history of what led up too this event and note all the features associated with the event.  Then he will examine you and do a couple of basic investigations before he develops a working diagnosis on what the problem is.We could speculate all day but in the end you would still have to go see your doctor to get any answers and any relief.Generally speaking, sharp pains are associated with nerve impingements.  These can happen at multiple places along the path of the nerve, including the lower back from where the leg nerves emerge.Signs and symptoms associated with nerves can be very urgent or more chronic (long-standing).Any new, sudden, incapacitating and unexplained sensations or loss of function must be investigated by a licensed physician as soon as possible.Nothing is gained by wasting time.Good luck!

Whenever I wake up, there's intense pain in my legs. What could be the reason for this?

Inadequate muscle pump function, incompetent venous valves (reflux), and venous thrombosis or obstruction are causes of elevated venous pressure (venous hypertension), which initiates a sequence of anatomic, physiologic, and histologic changes leading to vein dilation, skin changes, or skin ulceration. The risk factors for the development of chronic venous disease include advancing age, family history of venous disease, ligamentous laxity (eg, hernia, flat feet), prolonged standing, increased body mass index, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, lower-extremity trauma, prior venous thrombosis (superficial or deep), the presence of an arteriovenous shunt, some hereditary conditions or high estrogen states.Lower-extremity chronic venous disorders encompass an entire spectrum of morphologic and functional abnormalities of the venous system. Symptoms include pain, leg heaviness or aching, swelling, dry skin, tightness, skin irritation, heaviness, muscle cramps, and itching. The diagnosis of chronic venous disease is suggested by the presence of typical symptoms (leg pain, fatigue, heaviness) and confirmed by the presence of venous reflux, which is diagnosed by duplex ultrasound as retrograde or reversed flow of greater than 0.5 second duration.Initial conservative management is recommended for most patients with chronic venous disease, and includes:●Leg elevation, exercise, and compression therapy improve oxygen transport to the skin and subcutaneous tissues, decrease edema, reduce inflammation, and compress dilated veins. Some patients will have contraindications to compression therapy or may not tolerate compression.I am intentionally keeping the skin rashes etc alongside other conditions away for the moment. You may try the above and it is likely to help.Nt to gorget in case you are on some cholesterol medications it may also be the cause sushi s statins.wish it helps.

Why do my legs ache when i'm tired?

When you rest, you usually rest horizontal right? This gives your legs a chance to increase circulation overnight and return blood back to your heart. Gravity spends the entire day keeping blood in your legs, and although your natural circulation is what keeps you going, it can only do so much against gravity. By the end of the day your bottom half really wants to be up and rested. If you know you're going to be pulling a late one, or missing your sleep - take 5 minutes every few hours and massage your legs pushing up towards your heart so that you help the blood flow. Even putting your feet up on the couch for a 5 minute session will help out.

In addition to that, starting off your morning with some circulation stimulating stretches for 10 minutes can do wonders to how you'll feel by the end of the day. Try lots of hamstring stretches, ankle rolls and extensions and so forth. Anything that targets the areas that end up sore will do.

Hope you feel better.

Cheers

Sudden, extreamely sharp pain in leg?

Keep an eye on this and if the pain or tingling continues it may be the beginning of DVT.

This is very painful and pain pills do not help. I have had it for over 2 years and the doctor was slow to diagnose it until I was in critical shape.

Mine started with a sudden onset of calf pain and leg swelling. The pain was worse when the leg was hanging down. There was warmth to the area because the veins were inflamed.

I am on coumidin (warfarin) as a blood thinner. Usually when they say 6 months, they mean for the rest of your life. The blood thinner does not resolve the current clot problem, but supposedly keeps new clots from forming.

Deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, is caused by a blood clot in a muscle and can be life-threatening. Symptoms include swelling, pain, and tenderness in the legs. Risk factors include immobility, hormone therapy, and pregnancy.

DVTs can occur anywhere in the body but are most frequently found in the deep veins of the legs, thighs, and pelvis. They may infrequently arise from the upper extremities usually because of trauma, or from an indwelling catheter (tubing) or device.

A deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a condition wherein a blood clot (thrombus) forms in a vein of the deep system.

Thrombophlebitis is a condition in which there is both inflammation and a blood clot in a vein. Thrombophlebitis can occur in either superficial or deep veins. Superficial thrombophlebitis occurs in veins close to the skin surface, and usually causes pain, swelling, and redness in the area of the vein. Superficial thrombophlebitis usually is treated with heat, elevation of the affected leg or arm, and anti–inflammatory medications. A thrombosis in a deep vein is a much more serious problem than one in a superficial vein. The reason for this is that a piece of the clot in deep vein from a DVT can break off and travel through the deep veins back to the heart, and eventually be pumped by the heart into the arteries of the lung. When this happens, the condition is called pulmonary embolism (PE). The blood clot is called an embolus (plural emboli), and the process of breaking off and traveling to the lungs is called embolism.

Narcotics didn’t help my pain. I now take Tizanidine 4mg 5/day and Lyrica Cv 100 mg 3/day. This helps the nerve pain and I can walk some now. I am feeling much better pain wise.

Whenever I sit with my legs folded, it pains my knees after a certain time. What could be the cause and a remedy?

There are many reasons behind the knee pain eg - ligament issue / muscle pain / bones pain / nerve pain. Best way to find out is various tests on the knees and then get a clear answer as assumption is mother of all $crew ups.Any knee pain to be cured i would have to examine myself personally to assist but general way to make knee healthy if there is level 1 pain, sit on chair or sofa where your back of the knees are connected to sofa/chair & with your inhalation lift the leg up & exhaling leg down. This shall strengthen the knee muscles & practicing everyday for 5mins with small breaks upto 1 month will give you awesome results.Namasteronak
