Why Do People Go On Ancestry.com

How far back can you go on ancestry.com?

Charlemagne, if you have more faith than I do in other people's work.

People alive in 1850, if you are white, or 1870 if you are black, if you insist on verifiable sources like the US Census.

You can download a genealogy program for free and not have to hope a website will be up next week.
There are 400,000 free genealogy sites.
Write of you want details and can't find them by searching the resolved questions.

Does ancestry.com work for hispanics people?

A person who is Hispanic can have roots in MANY different countries. The records that are accessible or exist, is going to depend on knowing which country. In other words...if you want church records from Mexico, that will be totally different than census records from (say) Cuba.

How accurate is Ancestry.com?

I have subscribed to Ancestry for a number of years and although it has serious flaws, it is a convenient centralized source of much valuable information. I especially appreciate the access to scanned images of original source documents. However, here is what is not accurate:  - Family Trees. I would only recommend that you use the online trees for hints as to whom your ancestors are. Avoid family trees that do not have supporting documentation. Last night I traced my wife's alleged connection to Pocahontas only to find out that the trees were using a connection that has largely been disproven. - Family Trees. Unfortunately, it is the trees that are in error that are copied the most, thus perpetuating the error. People will copy the trees that have the most information, without investigating whether it is correct. And, since the trees persist after the person unsubscribes from Ancestry, they are almost impossible to correct. I recently send emails to about 20 owners of trees that had a serious error, but only received responses from 6.- Indexes. Indexes to census records, passenger lists, and vital records are only as good as the person making the transcription. Errors are made based on poor handwriting, assumptions, and language barriers. As an example, census indexes for the surname Fettinger have turned up as Fellinger and Ketteryen.- Description of Records. Record titles such as New York State Census Records don't make it clear that many of the counties are missing unless you read the fine print.- Searches. I have numerous circumstances where a search should have returned the desired records, but didn't. Modifying the search returned the records. In other words, the Ancestry search engine isn't always accurate.Always keep in mind that Ancestry is not the ultimate genealogical source. Most information is still not available online (but is getting better every day). Use Ancestry as a genealogical tool, but realize its limitations.

Does Ancestry.com work for Arabs and people in the Middle east in General?

Arabs and people in the Middle east in General...read the website and see what records they have...i very much doubt it as their market is the UK and US which is where they make money

11th and 12th century..NO and no website will, you will be very lucky to get back to 16th century trawling throught the National Archives let alone any website and you will only get back further if your ancestors were very rich or rogues ( as those produced more records) and even then it is very hard to prove real connection in family relationships...although some people are prepared to accept the flimsiest of evidence to prove ancestry, but put to the test it always falls short of reality, to some being related to someone famous or claiming a King or Queen as a direct ancestor is more important........for the rest of us family history is about quality, not quality and trees of unrelated names......................................
