Why Do People Think That Answerers Were Picking Their Own Answers As Best Answers

My best answer points are being stolen I think. Why?

Naguru, I agree with you. I tried contacting yahoo answers management several times. They never resolved the issue nor gave any explanation of why it happens. I believe they have no interest in resolving the issue. We are screwed ... that's the bottom line. I even told them that answerers are why yahoo answers survives. But it did not matter. Guess it is our choice whether to continue using this forum or not. As an alternative, there are several other forum that are equal or better ...

In Yahoo! Answers, do you understand what the term ‘Place Holding answers’ means...?

It’s great to see some excellent responses to my question…
Keep them coming…
If you can think of anything that hasn’t already been mentioned by the other answerers, don’t hesitate to throw it in.

I’m dreading the thought of having to choose a Best Answer, because it isn’t going to be easy to do !!!

Why do people ask questions on Quora and then attack the answerers?

A person can ask question for two purposes.Genuine craving for answers that they have questions about.Seeking confirmation that the rest of the world sees the bigger picture as they do.For this question, we are often looking at the second group of people, people who ask questions not on the pretense of seeking responses but seeking mutual comprehension to further support their agenda. We are insecure people. What better method to lift that insecurity is there than to ask a question and see how the majority feels. If they feel the same way as you, that’s good! But, if the world opposes your view ardently, that’s no bueno! It is often the latter which forces the original poster (OP) to retaliate. Often as well, when people respond, they may seem condescending as they simply disagree with the view and as such, they appear to look down on the OP with the sort of vibe that relates to ‘You don’t make sense, you’re fighting for the wrong cause and you know it’. As self-defense, they retaliate against the response to impose their side, to defend their side, to clarify their side, to save face. We are all guilty of this perhaps not on Quora but in every aspects of our lives. We will ask others about how they feel about us and we will retaliate if they think badly of us. We don’t like criticism and being marginalised for our views. However, I rarely see this sort of thing happen, in this context that is. The more often scenario is someone commenting on a person’s response (not necessarily the OP) and they will argue about your response as someone does not agree with you and they use that opportunity to blindly throw terms like confirmation bias when you argue your point-of-view (POV). The issue is that personal feelings will kick in when POVs are concerned and we all possess our bias when responding. I don’t know what’s worse. The OP retaliating against a question? ORA third-party reader targetting a specific question to impose their disagreement despite all other responses sharing the same POV about the question.

Sick of kids using Yahoo Answers to do their homework for them...?

I am an elementary school teacher. I think students using Yahoo Answers should be asking HOW to answer the questions so they can do them by themselves in the future. I agree that, rather than trying to learn how to find the answers themselves, most of them are just looking for "free answers" and that is not going to help them learn anything. It may interest you to know that I have noticed that many of the answers given on Yahoo! homework help are WRONG!!

In addition, it wouldn't help raise their grade in my class even if they got every one of their homework answers from Yahoo! and they were all correct. Homework is a really small percentage of my grades. Most of the grading comes from work done in class. I think my students would benefit from doing the practice homework themselves or I wouldn't assign it. If my students choose to get the answers elsewhere (such as on Yahoo Answers) they really aren't raising their grade, they are just cheating themselves out of the opportunity to practice before the graded classwork which is how I really evaluate them.

Diapek - Not everyone understands the information at the same time. Some students may understand how to do the problems and others may not. I do my best to reach everyone, but with the number of students I have each day there is no way that I can give them each individual attention on every topic presented. Some students do need extra help after school to understand the homework. Just being realistic.
