Why do youtubers/professional youtube vloggers use a DSLR for video?
I already accepted the fact that video on a DSLR is very limited compared to a camcorder. But whenever I watch Youtube videos, most of them use a DSLR. Even the professionals/semi-professionals (Indy Mogul, Film Riot, Andyax, etc.) use DSLRs. Whenever I look for videography tutorials, most use a DSLR, and that makes me really confused. I've read something that praises the DSLR if you're in to cinematography. But also says go for the camcorder for live recording. (Maybe the DSLR is for movies/films because you would not record a clip longer than 5 minutes, and the video editing part will merge all clips.) I appreciate camcorders for their video quality, but taking stills using a camcorder is bad, even when compared to smartphones. Since I am saving money, I am aiming towards an all-in-one device, and that is the DSLR, even though limitations in video features can greatly affect me. Also, I came across this new breed of cameras. I think they're called Mirrorless cameras. They are a smaller compact-like devices with DSLR capability. I read that they don't overheat/limit video length to 30 minutes, and also capture professional looking stills. If this is true, would you recommend a Mirrorless camera that gives equal performance for picture taking and video shooting?

You can overcome shyness and show your personality on YouTube. I'm a huge introvert myself and I'm still a bit uncomfortable in social situations. But you have to understand: you are in control of what you upload to YouTube.So if you have a desire to start out on YouTube and film yourself, just start out! Make your first video. It helps if you start small and take your time. Write a little script with a couple of bullet points that you want to talk about. Then turn on the camera and start talking. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. If you're uncomfortable at any time, just pause, take a deep breath and continue.The thing is: it doesn't have to be right the first time. You can edit out the mistakes and pauses. You can reshoot segments you're not happy about. You can add music and effects to make your video more dynamic and interesting. And you can polish the raw footage until you think it's ready to upload.It's not easy and you probably won't be 100% happy with your first video. Upload it anyway. Then think about what you can improve in your second video, and so on. Once you've reached your 5th, 10th or 20th video, you'll feel much more comfortable. Nikon D3100 for youtube videos?
If video is important, then a camcorder is preferred. It is designed to capture video. And audio. Capturing still images is a secondary "convenience feature". If stills are important, than use a still image capture device. Like a dSLR. Capturing video (and audio is a secondary "convenience feature". For example, if you read the documentation the D3100 you listed, you will find it will overheat when capturing video "for prolonged periods" (about 15 minutes maximum) and stop video capture until it cools down (takes a long time)... or... check their built-in (mono) mic and no (or extremely limited) manual audio control. This means for the D3100 using an external audio recording device like a Zoom H2, H2n, H4n and take the extra steps to import and sync the audio when editing... As for a mic jack in the D3100 - you can download and read through the manual. The easiest way to locate it is to see if it is on pages 2 or 3 - or the index at the back. Basically you can easily end up spending more money and (learning) time you would not spend if you use the right tool for the task. I am not saying any dSLR can't capture good video - they can - but they cannot be treated like a camcorder. There are workarounds for lots of things that you normally don't need to worry about when using a camcorder... In the $400 price range, the Canon HF R or HF M series have camcorder candidates in your budget range.

I am interested in starting up my own YouTube channel, vlog type thing and am wondering what type of camera I should purchase. I've browsed a couple stores but don't really know what I'm looking for. I want a very crystal clear image similar to the cameras used by Kingsley, Jenna Marbles, Marcus Butler, Sam Pepper, JacksGap, Jay Fluent, Travie Williams, etc. And does the camera have anything to do with sound? Or would I have to purchase a mic as well? I'm a tad bit lost when it comes to techy stuff like this. All help and advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
