Why Does Putting Tin Foil On My Teeth Make Them Smooth

Why does it hurt to chew foil when there is a filling in your mouth?

The pain tinfoil creates feels like an electric shock in the sensitive root nerves of the filled tooth. This description is very accurate. It is an electric shock, of up to 2 volts.

Some dental amalgams contain up to five dissimilar metals. Galvanic action between the metals different electrical potentials creates a electric cell in the tooth, which can generate currents of up to 10 microamps, a huge spike over normal body nerve currents of 3 microamps. People with extensive fillings can actually measure a weak voltage in their mouth from this action. This is all fine and dandy, until an outside element is introduced.

When the aluminum is introduced by the foil, it acts as an anode to the filling's cathode. The natural electrolytes present in saliva create a 'salt bridge' and the magic happens. The contact essentially short circuits the cell. A weak current flows between the electrodes (tooth and tinfoil) and is detected by the sensitive nerve of the tooth as an unpleasant sensation. Zap. To accompany the shock, a metallic taste can also be generated by tin ions released by the reaction.

Why do hard boiled eggs hurt my teeth?

Actually the sulfur in eggs can sometimes help relieve tooth pain, especially if you have silver fillings opposing gold restorations.
When these 2 metals come into contact initially, you can experience a phenomema called "the galvanic effect."
The sulfur in the eggs can neutralize this occurance.
I apologize if this does not help answer your question, but I thought it was an interesting factoid.
Did you recently have any new fillings placed? Do you have any gold work?

What do braces feel like on your teeth?

They feel as they look, like metal bands around the front of your teeth that are made of sandpaper or a metal file. If you like that nice smooth feeling when you run your tongue along your teeth you may not like braces. The brackets are close enough together making it feel like almost they are connected by more than wire. My back brackets have hooks that sick out and rub my cheeks, a little bit annoying at times.

You may also feel the wires sticking out in the back. Take a paper clip and rub it on your check for a few hours and you will know what that feels like. I recommend making sure they trim the wires short. You feel some pressure after they are put on and again when they change out your wire. It will feel like some one is pushing on your teeth.

The brackets stick out a bit from your teeth making it feel like you have a full mouth of metal, big lips and your bracket may rub against your lips feeling again like a metal file. The Metal will rub on your cheeks more when you talk. After a month or so these things may start to feel normal and you may at times forget your wearing braces.

Just a warning braces feel even more annoying when you eat certain types of food. For example bread of all things will get caked up on your brackets making your braces feel very nasty. You may feel the need to use your tongue to remove the cake like residue from you brackets. My advise don’t bother just finishing eating then brush.

Spacers are used to make space between your back molars so your orthodontics can slide molar bands over the back two teeth.

If its any comfort I had invisalign before I got regular metal braces and I feel the regular braces are less annoying and work better than invisalign. Braces sometimes annoy me but after a few months you adjust to them and they are not really that bad.

I hope this helps.

Why are spacecraft often covered with aluminum-like foil?

The material you are looking at is BoPET (Biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate), better known as [math]Mylar^{(tm)}[/math]. BoPET is a polyester film made from stretched polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and is used for its high tensile strength, chemical and dimensional stability, transparency, reflectivity, gas and aroma barrier properties, and electrical insulation. Spacecraft are exposed to the extremes of space. Although the vacuum of space has no temperature, objects traveling through space do. They can be deep frozen on the side facing away from the sun and several hundred degrees on the side facing the sun. In addition they run the risk of impacts from micrometeroids. Spacecraft are wrapped in Mylar because the film is very light and it can reflect radiated heat from both sides. This keeps the inside warmer than the dead cold of space and also keeps the worst of the sun's heat out. It is also quite tough which offers a measure of protection from particle impacts.

What is the difference between tin foil and aluminum?

The difference between the two is the thickness of the thickness and the degree of high temperature resistance. “Tin paper” is produced by metal tin rolling, and “aluminum foil” is produced by metal aluminum rolling.Tin foil is softer than aluminum foil. At the same time, tin foil can not be heated because of its low melting point, or it can be embrittled when heated above 160 °C. It can only be used in food packaging. If you need barbecue food or baked food, you can not use tin foil.Aluminum foil paper starts to melt because it has a higher melting point and is heated above 660 °C. It can be applied to common grilled foods and baked goods, and it is clean and hygienic while maintaining the original flavor. Therefore, after the aluminum price was lowered, the aluminum foil replaced the tin foil in daily life. However, since aluminum metal affects the development of the brain, the surface of the current aluminum foil is coated to avoid the release of metallic aluminum.

When making Hot Pockets in the oven, can you do it without it turning crispy and hard?

I've lost a couple top front teeth due to sports accident and cavities so it's sometimes painful to try eating crispy food and so was wondering if, when those times happen, is there a way for me to cook the hot pockets where they're at least semi soft rather then the hard crispy shell they turn in? The only times I've managed soft Hot Pockets was with a microwave and then half the time the center is still frozen

My tooth is chipped and very sharp. How can I file it down to stop it from cutting my inner lip?

To everyone who insisted that they go to the dentist, if you had insurance or you're financially stable and able to cover a visit to the dentist you wouldn't be on a site like this asking how to do it yourself. So essentially all your answers were arrogant, condescending and just plain ignorant. Yes going to your local dentist would you be your best solution. Is it your only solution? Absolutely and unequivocally no. For some people their only option will be to do it themselves or wait a very long time to be able to go to a dentist possibly years. You don't live with a tooth that's cutting the inside of your mouth or tounge. The way are you guys are talking you're making it sound like they're trying to perform a surgery on themselves. They're filing a tooth for crying out loud! Take a chill pill and jump on off of your high horse. Now that I vented to talk about the question at hand here is simple. Your tooth enamel is extremely hard. You'll need a Dimond encrusted File 2 make this much easier. A simple nail file is low-quality and likely to take a long time to get the job done but it will work in most cases. Again it's better to do something than to do nothing if that's your only option. Just be careful with your surrounding teeth not to damage them. Slow and steady wins the race. Keep exploring the area with your tongue as you're going making sure that you're not hitting other teeth and you're staying in the area that you want to focus on. Use common sense and caution and you will be just fine.

Is it dangerous to use aluminum for the bowl piece when smoking weed?

Ok so lets get real here. You are smoking an organic product. Now everyone thinks Because its organic its healthy well that's actually not the case. Burning organic smoke is actually no good for your lungs and will irrevocably damage your lungs over a period of time. It is entirely possible that if you smoke enough weed without tobacco for long enough you will either develop emphysema or lung cancer. Your lungs are not evolved to inhale smoke at that concentration. Yes some things burn with more toxicity than others now lets addressee the science behind the aluminium and "tin Foil". If it is a factory made bowl piece (cone piece if you are Australian) Then there are no real issues here. It wont have any chemical residues as they are often machine turned. If you are using "tin foil" then all you need to do is to burn off any chemical residue. Even in saying that though it really doesn't make a lick of difference as I mentioned before you are already damaging your lungs by smoking it in the first place. Before any haters jump in. I smoke both weed and tobacco so no I'm not advocating giving it up or not smoking. I am however pointing out the true science of it. Edibles are the healthiest option and if you eat it you also get to benefit from its anti cancer properties.
