Why is long hair on men unprofessional?

Where is it written that guys have to have neatly cut short hair? Where is it written that long hair is only right for women to have? No Where! So why is it that a lot of employers make male employees have their hair no longer than a certain length but women can have it as long as they please? That to me is just pure discrimination. But what really pushes it to me is when in some places, a guy has to cut it while a women only has to wear hers back in a ponytail (example: many restaurants)? " Why is it unprofessional for men but not for women. And please don't give me any answers like, "It's what society has come to accept". If your gonna say that then please tell me why society has come to accept that.

Why is black hair considered unprofessional?

According to society: if it isn't white, it isn't right. It seems too eccentric for a professional setting.I think it is wrong! People are obsessed with straight, long hair these days. People should wear the hair they are comfy wearing. As long as it is clean and decent, it should be fine. I seen a doctor @ the hospital I volunteered @ with long dreads. They were fine with it.

Why is long hair considered unprofessional on men?

Its a social taboo. There is nothing "wrong" with it, however social tadoos don't care it is viewed as a sign that they do not conform. It is being more accepted, its like having tattoos or, sagging your paints. There are nothing wrong with these things they harm nobody. However they give social cues, even if you they are misleading. He just needs to decide how he wants to be viewed. I used to have long hair wear hoodies ect. Had a hard time finding work people would treat me like a criminal or on drugs. I now have a buzz cut wear button up shirts. I am seen in a different light even tho I am the same person ,I don't act any diffrent. But I am treated differently, work is easier to find security no longer followed me around stores etc.

Is it immature or unprofessional for men to have long hair?

I'm 26 years old and I have long hair. Actually, I guess it's not really long but maybe medium length. It doesn't go below my eyes or ears but it does get a it shaggy at times. My hair is like a surfer style, kind of like how justin beiber's hair used to be.

I was just wondering because I would like to look more professional at work. Also, I have been interviewing for a higher level position and was afraid my hair would make me come across negatively. Of course, I just got a hair cut for my interviews and it doesn't look shaggy, it looks more clean cut and trimmed but still about 2-3 inches long.

I have longer hair because I look very strange with short hair. It's very hard for me to control even with jell or other products
