My jaw hurts really bad and I don't know what I did.?

It is called TMJ. "TMJ stands for the Temporomandibular joint. It is the jaw joint located right in front of your ears. The TMJ, like other joints in our body, consists of moving parts which undergo daily stress. Problems with the jaw joint are known as Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD), or more commonly just TMJ.

Those with TMJ may experience pain or popping in the jaw, limited opening, and difficulty chewing. TMJ often results in muscle tension headches, dental pain, ear pain, and less frequently, ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and dizziness (vertigo). TMJ is sometimes associated with neck and upper back pain, migraines, fibromylagia, rheumatoid arthritis, depression and anxiety.

Most TMJ is caused by the clenching or grinding of teeth, which is usually a result of stress. Sometimes problems start after trauma, such as in a sports injury or car accident. Over time this wear and tear can cause inflammation and degenerative changes in the muscle, bone, and cartilage. Approximately one-half of the population will have TMJ symptoms at some point in their life. The good news is for most people, symptoms are mild and do not require extensive treatment. About 5% of those with TMJ may progressively deteriorate into a more severe condition. Treatment of TMJ may include a mouth appliance or biteguard to stop clenching, prescription medications such as anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants, correction of dental problems, and physical therapy. Invasive surgical procedures have been used in severe cases, but with limited success."

Why do my teeth and jaw hurt when I run in the cold?

Buddy, get yourself to a doctor and figure out what is wrong with you.You may be dehydrated due to the weeziness, but tasting blood is never ever a good thing. The jaw issue may be due to exposure to the cold if you live in a very cold area. I would wear something to cover it up and if this continues, talk to your doctor about it. If any of these symptoms still occur even after you try taking care of them, go to the doctor. Don’t forget to ask about why you taste blood when you running, since that never means anything good.

Advil helps it a little but it still hurts if I smile to big or laugh. What are wisdom teeth? Do I need to have them pulled? What can I do to make the pain fade? Why does my jaw and teeth hurt when I wake up?

A2A. Chances are you are clinching your teeth together during sleep…biting down hard, and you’re not aware of it while you’re sleeping. And you may also be grinding your teeth together which may wear away enamel, which a dentist can see on exam. There are over the counter “night guards” available that may help, but seeing your dentist would probably be the best solution.

Why does my jaw hurts after a tooth extraction?

Many reasons. The trauma of removing a tooth tears the gums and expands the bone in the jaw.If you mean by jaw your jaw joint. Then possibly th pressure put on that joint during the extraction inflamed the joint causing pain. You could have an infection which require antibioticsYou could have a dry socket which mean the bone in the socket where the tooth was has not healed because of lack of blood flow most common in smokers. You could have food stuck in the socketYou could just be wimpy-just kidding hope you feel better soon. My wisdom teeth is hurting so bad. Even my cheek is hurting. Why?

The tissue around your wisdom tooth is infected. This is called pericronitis. Food and debris get caught under the tissue inflaming the gums. The cheek is very close and the inflammation is spreading to the cheek. The food and debris needs to be flushed out from under the flap. Then, the tooth should be removed. Antibiotics are not recommended for this condition. Many dentists prescribe an antibiotic just to get the patient out of the office until s convenient time. Below is a graphic of your problem.
