Why The Ceiling Fan Fixture Stopped Working

Why is my ceiling fan not working?

in this order.
1.the breaker is good or the light wouldnt work. so pull the cord on the fan and flip the wall switch
2. there is a little switch for forward and reverse on teh side of the fan motor-slide it a couple times.
3.if you can do electrical work. check to see if there power to the switch if separate from the light.
4.remember the electricity hurts if it touches you.
5.if not then open the cowling on the fan. that the cover for teh wires up against the ceiling.
6. check for loose connections after turning off the correct breaker.
7. there are connections to the light and the fan (separate) under the cowling. check em for tightness
8. if all this fails then try a new fan.

Ceiling fan and light suddenly stopped working?

My husband and I just bought a house. He is currently away on business and therefore we haven't moved in yet. I have been going to the house every few days while he is away to do a little work, but I am not there very often.

We had the carpets professionally cleaned yesterday. When I went back to the house when they were finished (didn't want to be around fumes when pregnant), I noticed the ceiling fan and light no longer worked. They have pull strings and there are three switches... one is side by side for the light and the fan and the other is just for the light and is on the other side of the room.

I got ahold of the carpet cleaner today and he said that he had turned on the light and fan and it worked for about two minutes before just going off. My husband and I have previously used the light and fan for about two hours and it worked just fine.

I am not sure if they tripped or blew a breaker? I don't even know how to make sure the fan is off because I do not know how to position the switches so the light is off since there is more than one switch that controls it. I looked at the breaker box and there are no red or orange indicators and it doesn't seem as if one is stuck in the middle.

My husband won't be back for a week. I do not know if I should just let it be until then or if it is an electrical hazard. I am not sure if I should try turning breakers on and off to see if one will reset and work. There are a few labeled, but mostly they are not. I do not know if I could do any damage to the house. I am seven months pregnant, but I don't think just flipping breakers on and off could pose a risk for an electrical shock?

Very upset with the carpet cleaners for just leaving it like that and not even telling me until I finally got ahold of them this evening!

Thanks in advance.

Ceiling fan won't work, but light fixture does?

Apparently nobody reads the actual question! You say that the light works but the fan won't, correct. If anybody has ever installed a ceiling fan before they would already know that the wires for the light and fan are the same at the wall plate so don't worry about that. If you want to check the wires then at the ceiling fan connections is the only place you would need to check. I doubt that is your problem, it will be your motor that is the problem. With the low cost of ceiling fans now days you will want to go to your local hardware store and purchase a new one.

Remote ceiling fan lights not working?

Hello Mr. Tony,
ALL remotes will dim the lights on a paddle fan. (at least, out of 30 years of doing this, I've never seen one that didn't)
If you must have CFL's, you will need to purchase "dimmable" CFL's.
The button on the remote will either dim, or brighten the lights the longer you hold the button down.
Now, as far as them not working:
1) Replace the batteries in the remote (if you haven't already) If this doesn't solve your problem, then:
2) turn off the power
3) Inspect around the light fixture, itself and you should see two or three screws that attach the fixture to the fan's housing.
4) remove these screws and the fixture will come apart.
5) check the connections inside to see if either one of the two "Quik-conn's" are loose or have come apart completely. I have seen this happen on fans that have been in use for over 5 years.
If this inspection yields no reason as to why the lights don't work, get ready to remove the canopy above the fan. In this canopy, you will find the receiver. It may just need replacing. Next, check the connections up inside the junction box, as these also, could have come loose.
Let me know if I could be anymore help. Good luck in all you do and may God bless.

My Hampton Bay remote controlled ceiling fan quit working after a thunderstorm. Lights will not come either.?

There are several components inside a ceiling fan that can get fried with power surges. Some brands of fans have heavier duty components that can better tolerate power surges.

You are going to need to talk to Home Depot about fixing or replacing the fan because Hampton Bay is their exclusive brand which they import directly from China. They do not ususally have replacement parts, so the odds of them fixing it are pretty slime. However, if it is under warranty, they may replace it...at their own discression.

In the future, I'd stick with buying ceiling fans from specialty fan dealers who are have access to replacement parts for the better quality brands like Emerson, Casablanca, Fanimation and Minka Aire.

Harbor Breeze ceiling fan remote not working?

I recently purchased a new home fitted with two Harbor Breeze ceiling fans. But the one in the living room is working just fine, but the one in our bedroom suddenly stopped working.

I used the remote control (FCC ID: A25-TX005R) to turn the light off--first time I ve ever used it--and now the remote won t work at all! We have a wall switch and two chains on the fan itself. The pull chain won t turn the light back on, but it will turn the fan on.

There are no dip switches that I can see. But there is a little red light on my remote and it s constantly blinking. Has my remote just gone bad? If so, is there a specific model I have to get to replace it? And how will I be able to reprogram it?
