Why Wont My Speakers Or Headphones Work

Why won't my headphones work in Red Alert 3?

That's a strange one. You definitely mean the headphones (the ones that go on your ears, not a microphone that's attached to it), right?

If so, my thoughts:

1. Are you _absolutely_ certain it ONLY happens with RA3? You've kept the headphones plugged in, then played some music or started another game and checked that the sound then comes through the headphones? It could be that they're faulty or not fully plugged in at the same time you start up RA3.

2. "Check your settings" as you suggested and as obvious as it seems. I can't think of anything. Depending on your OS (I'm on Win XP), try going to your Windows Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio and see what's selected on there. Actually, if it's a laptop there should only be one soundcard anyway.

3. It doesn't make sense that it would only happen in RA3, though. I know the game has voice chat so it could be that it's playing the game audio through the speakers and selecting voice chat for the headphones, so check the in-game settings and play around with the voice chat options. If you're on Steam, do the same.

How could I get my speakers and headphones to work at the same time?

If you had a desktop it would be easy, but with a laptop there is only one thing. You can get a USB sound card. It plugs into a USB port and has a small headphone jack. They go for around $20-30. The only thing is how you set it up. You will have to do some research to find one that you can specify what program is using it so the same thing doesn't come out of both.

After using headphones my speakers wont work on my laptop?

Ben's answer is good, but if you're using a standard headphone, then you should know that plugging in the jack physically disables the speakers on most computers.

If your headphones have a 1/4" jack, it will require a mini-jack adapter. I've seen, more than once, people who unplug the main jack from the adapter (leaving the adapter plugged in), and then can't get sound from the speakers. Ya gotta unplug the adapter, too...

Worst case scenario is this: The headphone jack got internally bent from the headphone plug. It still works with the headphone, but an internal connector doesn't close any more after removing the plug. This would require replacement of the jack.

Laptop speakers won't work but headphones do?

My computer's sounds were working just fine. I put it to sleep, as usual, but when I went to use it again later the built-it speakers would not work with any computer sounds.

I tried plugging and unplugging headphones (which i can hear the sound through fine), restarting the computer, checking to make sure the right audio device is defaulted. it still won't produce sound through the speakers.

Help?

Why Won't My Headphones Work On Itunes?

Do your headphones work with other things? Like Youtube or an iPod? Because unless they're broken, it sounds like you may be plugging them into the wrong hole. It's impossible for headphones to be incompatible with a specific program.

Headphones won't work on PC? Help?

I have a pair of cat ear headphones by brookstone (http://www.brookstone.com/cat-ear-headphones-axent-wear/990635p.html) All of a sudden, when plugged in, they don't work and the sound comes out of the laptop speakers. I have an Asus laptop but cannot figure out what is wrong with it. Apple earphones work with the laptop, so how do I fix the headphones? I am sure that they are plugged in correctly.
