Why Swedish Immigrants come to the new world in the 1880s?
Sweden was a very poor country at the time, and in demographic upheaval: population was growing rapidly, cities swelling with the destitute and land-less from the countryside. There weren’t land or jobs for everyone, and the jobs in industry that existed were poorly paid and very hard. The living conditions in Stockholm at the turn of the century were among the worst in Europe. USA (and Argentina, Brasil etc) were welcoming able-bodied Swedes, the dream was often a piece of land of ones own. For many, of course, life in the new country became equally hard, but people were desperate, grasping for at least a chance for a better life for themselves and their children.Not everybody in Sweden today remembers this time in recent history, if they did their views of poor refugees seeking a better life might soften a little.
What kinds of benefits are offered to immigrants in Sweden?
Just yesterday, Ylva Johansson, the swedish Labour Minister, wants to offer immigrants 9 000 swedish crowns each month for taking up education after getting asylum here in Sweden.Sweden already have an establishment plan for immigrants getting asylum. This plan is around two years where the primary focus is to help immigrants with their education and getting a future job.Studies shows that 3 months after the plan has ended, 52% are going on arbetsmarknadspolitisk program, labour market training program and 27% are working. Only 5% are going to school, high school or university. Note that half of the immigrants are missing what’s called as gymnasiekompetens, education qualifications, which are pretty much the bare minimum to actually get a job here in Sweden.Note that this is only offered to those who’ve been granted asylum. We are talking approximately about 15 000 immigrants that will get 9 000 swedish crowns on a monthly basis. Why is the Swedish government taking so many immigrants?
Since 1950, Sweden is estimated by Arene Idé to have made 900 billion krona from immigrants. It is also estimated that the population of Sweden would be 2.5 million less, had there been no immigration to the country. Sweden is like many European countries that have a current low birth rate. The country needs future generations who will provide tax income and keep the economy growing in good times.The FORES think tank released a report in 2014 that showed 220 of the 290 municipalities in Sweden would have a declining population without immigration. 85 municipalities had a reduction anyway, but it would have much worse without immigration. In addition, most Swedes do not want to do many of the jobs that are needed in a modern society. Sweden is desperate for nurses, doctors and dental staff. Taxi drivers are almost all immigrants in Stockholm. Most restaurants in Sweden are run by immigrants or their children. Elderly care is not a profession that most young Swedes want to take up and the same can be said for teaching and pre school child care.There actually is not much choice. Why does Sweden give so many benefits to immigrants, does it benefit Sweden in the long run somehow?
Sweden believes that the children of immigrants will become productive members of society. We also believe that all humans “have the same value” and don’t want to give less benefits to newly arrived than to natives. If we did, someone would call it racism.If Sweden lowered the benefits for everyone, including natives, many natives would likely protest, as the negative effects of our immigration politics would be hard felt and affect the support for the established political parties.However, there is one good effect on natives. Taking people here from across the world who are unable or unwilling to work and paying for their stay here lowers unemployment among natives.Gap in employment, natives vs foreign born:As can be seen, Sweden has close to 20 points differences in employment between natives and foreigners, most in OECD countries. What are some challenges that immigrants face in the U.S?
not many since they do not have many responsibilities of paying property tax, hospital tax, school tax like I do. They are free in many cases to drive around without drivers license or car insurance. They are allowed to send all their cash via wire to mexico without being taxed. I had to take my children out of a public school since it was 85% hispanic in Texas and place her in a private school and the emphasis was more on learning the illegal kids enough english to do the school work. The elementary school went from 75% anglso, 20% black to 85% hispanic in just three years so I guess the border patrol was asleep those years. We are really in a desperate situation in Texas and you folks up North get ready because its coming your way, soon.

Why should immigrants be kicked out of this country?
America currently lets in 900,000 legal immigrants a year - which if I recall is more than all of the other countries in the world combined. Please understand that most Americans are not against immigration per se, but only against illegal immigration. The reason why can be found in the term "Illegal Immigrant". There is simply no God Given right for every person in the world to live in the US. Those that come over by following the rules should be welcomed with open arms as part of the fabric of our great country. These people by the way should be the ones most outraged at the shortcuts taken to enter this country by others who do not follow the rules and disregard US immigration laws.
Why do people say "America is made up of immigrants"?
You could say that much of the UK is made up of immigrants if you go back far enough (the Frisians, the Angles, the Vikings, the Normans...who in themselves were immigrants from Norway to France). In fact...the UK is made up of many immigrants at the moment, but that's another story. I think it's because the major influx of Europeans to the Americas didn't happen that long ago and that, in fact, American does have a high population of immigrants. I know that the Americas were "discovered" in the late 15th and early 16th centuries by Europeans (although some Viking dude is supposed to have made it to North America way earlier - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discovery_of_the_Americas) but the real influx of people didn't happen until the 1800s which isn't that far removed from living memory and is well documented. In fact, in the last 10 yrs of the 19th and the first 10 years of the 20th, over 20 million people are documented as coming through Ellis Island to live in the USA. For you to say "almost every other American was born here" isn't stricly true though is it? America must have a high proportion of the population who are immigrants (legal or otherwise), whether they're from Mexico, other Central and South American countries, China, Japan, Europe. You may not be an immigrant and your family may not be immigrants, but America without doubt does have a high proportion of the population who are immigrants.
I live in Sweden, a country ruined by mass immigration?
I just want to say- socialism is a failed experiment. Sweden has basically opened up her borders for all of the middle east. Now we we are known as "the rape capital" of Europe. There's some neighbourhoods that Swedes just can't go into without being attacked. Women are afraid to walk at night because of the rape problem. Immigrants do not respect us, they want everything in Arabic or whatever language they speak, they want a mosque in every town. Any kind of national pride is seen as racist. Some people have even stopped cheering for our national sports teams because that would be seen as "thinking we're better than them." Please US, do not enact socialism. Swedish society is beyond repair.
Why do all these illegal immigrants protest aganist our laws saying they want to be Americans?
Good point. I signed the selective service papers making me being eligible for the draft. If the draft is ever needed, I am eligible to go to war, and I will if my country calls upon me. I am a tax paying citizen, have been for my whole life. I have nothing against mexicans. I have dated several Mexican girls. Racism is not the issue. The issue is the LAW and ECONOMICS. No hospital is going to turn down a patient, legal or not. But when the hospitals are flooded with illegals, the tax paying people suffer. Thus, many hospitals and ER's have closed down, because of the lack of money created by the massive exodus of Illegal immigrants. I was born in the Los Angeles area, and I have lived here my whole life. I want those services available to me if I need them. But in certain places, those services are no longer available due to a high amount of illegal immigrants receiving services and not paying. This may sound racist, but its not. It's purely from my observation. I am trying to make this sound okay, because people are gonna call me racist. Which I am not. Most of these Mexican immigrants have like 10 kids and are receiving welfare from our country when they don't even pay taxes. I have a mental disability that requires hundreds of dollars of medication every month. I do not have health insurance. The social security department and the medi-cal department pretty much just laughed to my face, while I was in a room full of Mexicans. Again, I am not racist, I am just saying what I see. California is flooded worse than any other state of illegals. And it has personally affected me, a struggling college student that can't get help from the government for my medication. Word.
