Will Doctor Call Before Follow Up Appointment If There Was Something Wrong With My Ct Scan

When you had an MRI did you get a follow up appointment?

Yes, there should be a follow up in every case.

The normal protocol is that an MRI is requested to investigate a particular problem. If the cause is found, then specific treatment is commenced, if the cause is not found, then further tests will usually be required unless done before the MRI. Either way you should be informed in the course of treatment.

Does a follow-up MRI after a CT scan mean that something was definitely found during the CT scan?

Medical imaging often requires a couple of different tests to get a clear image of the target. If the person reading your CT scan saw something then they will want to get a better image with a sharper tool such as the MRI. This test will confirm whether there really is something there or it was a shadow. Don't over stress as there could be a few different causes for something to show up on a scan and not all of them are tumors. Just bide your time and try to keep a positive mental attitude. These scans are never fun--I have had more than 10 and they never get any easier from a stress standpoint. I have to go in for a followup bronchoscopy next week due to something seen on a scan and I will dread it. I just try and tune it out and stay distracted. What else can you do? Best Wishes

What does it mean when a doctor calls you for a follow-up appointment? 10wks preg?

I am 10wks pregnant & 2 days ago I had a blood test. Yesterday my doctor's assistant called me and said they received the blood test results & my doctor wants to make a follow-up appointment for today. I called the pathology people and they wouldn't reveal the results over the phone!! Didn't sleep much at all & now I have to wait until this afternoon to go to my appointment. So frustrated I have a feeling it's bad news. Does anyone know if it's normal for the doctor to call for a follow-up after the blood test? Very worried here. :(

It's the first blood test you get after you do the positive pregnancy urine test. If that helps. :/

Does follow up appointment after MRI scan mean its bad news?

The scan can take between 20 to 40 minutes and is very noisy he'll receive ear plugs or whatever thing identical. The outcome are customarily capable with in a few hours but if it's on the nhs he could ought to look ahead to a few days. If there is any thing that is of predicament i must imagine that he'll get a name lovely quickly. I'm hoping all of it goes well for him and the outcome are excellent. On the factor of getting an MRI accomplished is he ok with enclosed areas he might ask for a sedative i did not and used to be hysterical except they put me in a scanner with a mirror to seem out of and my dad to maintain my foot unhappy i do know nevertheless it particularly scared me.

Would they tell you right away if there was something weird in an MRI or no?

I had a routine MRI on my brain last year because of headaches. They found some small spots on the brain stem that were not supposed to be there. Instead of calling me, the doctor just sent a referral to the insurance for me to get a spinal tap. When I got the referral, I had no idea what was going on. (It turned out to be nothing to worry about.)

So no, they don't call right away even if they find something suspicious, unless it is an emergency, like if they see a large tumor that looks like it could be dangerous if it is not removed right away. And MRIs these days only take about 10 to 15 minutes, even if they inject the contrast dye and take extra pictures. And as Millie and others said above, the tech who performs the test is not qualified to read the films and diagnose anything.

If they find cancer or something odd when doing a CT, Ultrasound or MRI will they tell the patient right away?

I've never heard of cancer spreading because of exposure to air. And, yes, a Doctor can detect cancer by MRI or a CT scan if the cancer is advanced enough. Naturally, there would have to be enough of a mass there to detect. He or she would not find it if the cancer is still in the cellular stage (very beginning stages). However, in the begining stages, a person's blood work would be off a little. An elevation of white blood cells or a drop in red blood cells would be noticed and additional tests would be performed. As far as the liver goes, fatty tissue surrounding it is not good. Something has cause his liver to be fatty. This can be brought about by excessive alcohol, drugs, or a diet high in cholesterol. I don't know if there's something he's not telling you or not. The Doctor may not have given him details, therefore he can't pass them on to you. If a spot was discovered on his liver, there's a high likelihood it could be cancer due to the discovery of cancer on his lymphnode. Once cancer has spread to the liver and lymp system, recovery is more difficult. But not impossible. The Doctor will do the biopsy to make a definitive diagnosis. If the lesion is cancerous but not too advanced, the Doctor can remove it or recommend someone who can. Radiation will probably follow. Right now, if I were you, I'd take a wait and see attitude. You'll make yourself sick by contemplating the worse when you haven't heard for sure the final diagnosis. If the Doctor gives a grim outcome, please check out the Cancer Centers of America. They have several locations. They treat cancer that was previously diagnosed as hopeless and the recovery rate is higher. I'll be praying for you both.

Did you ever have a feeling something was wrong with your health even though several doctors told you you were OK, only to find out months later that you were right?

This is a story about a mother who had a sick child. However, it only took a matter of hours, not months, to realise that most often a mother knows what she is talking about. It was in 2005, my first child, and by 2months old he was soundly sleeping throughout the night. Until after one week, he started crying and wouldn't stop. It was very unusual because he had been so accustomed to his routine. All day he would cry and he was feeling hot but his fever wasn't so high. Regardless, I ensured we took him for a checkup. The pediatrician, an Indian male, told me that my baby was fine and that I need to let him cry himself to sleep. My son's father agreed with the doctor and made me look like I was making a big deal out of nothing, not being tough enough to let him cry. The reason I reference “Indian male" is because I found the view was quite chauvinistic towards me.I felt defeated but still trusted my gut. He had slept through the night for an entire week and all of a sudden I need to retrain him to lull himself to sleep? Impossible. That night, after the visit with the doctor, my son was inconsolable! His fever had jumped sky high and he wouldn't stop crying. I was not taking no for an answer. We packed him up and went straight to emergency. They checked to see if there were any hairs tied around him, possibly causing pain before checking everything else. They gave him an x-ray which was heartbreaking to watch. If you have ever seen a baby undergo an x-ray, you will know what I mean. And all of a sudden there was my answer. My 2mth old son had a case of bronchiolitis. He was struggling to breathe and had no way of telling me, except crying uncontrollably. He was actually wheezing and it was noticeable how his lungs were working extra hard to take in air, something the pediatrician failed to check. He was in hospital for several days, hooked up to an apparatus and when we took him home had to use the apparatus for an extra week. After two weeks, he returned to his usual sleep routine.I have learned to stop at nothing, if my gut tells me something is wrong to trust it!***Footnote: This is how he looked the morning before we took him to the doctor's office. It is impossible not to see how sick he looks from his eyes.

Would the doctor call if test were abnormal?

It's frustrating, but looks like you'll just have to talk to the physician on the appoint, date.

I once went to my primary physician's after hours urgent care center

So a week later a I get scans and see the radiologist and discover their computer was unable to read the dvd of my arm from the urgent care place, but they do scansmri's...too...and I wait a few hours and see my oncologist. He states my lungs and abdomen are clear and he's keeping me off meds. I ask about my arm. His reply is: 'What arm? My arm!!!!!! The main reason I'm here!!!! He say's 'oh - I haven't got the results yet! Two days later I get a call and get set up for RADIATION ON MY ARM!

It's frustrating - and different physicians have different personalities. My oncologist is a bit terse and eccentric but I've reviewed his record and I trust him as best I can anyone, and he's a John Hopkins grad... Some physicians come in and give me the bubbly pep talk...and then another physician comes in looking at the same material and gives me the somber 'i'm sad to tell you news...' It can be an emotional roller coaster...so i try to tune out the bureaucracy/personality aspects as much as possible...

the techs aren't allowed to tell you diagnostic impressions...My mri tech showed me the pic. when i asked to see it but could not of course me a diagnostic impression/interpretation. It was however somewhat obvious...

You have to wait and talk to the doctor. The tumor is not like a bomb going to explode; it'll still be there - and if it's not a tumor, then the doc. will need to talk about what else might be going on... Uncertainty is always at the root of anxiety.

How long does it take to get CT scan results?

By ‘results’, I am assuming you mean the ‘radiologist interpretation of the images’. Modern CT scanners have remarkable hardware that allows them to generate the images from the acquired detector data extremely fast and the images are available for viewing on the CT console within a minute or two. There may be multiple acquisitions and some reconstruction of the different views. There needs to be some quality control of the images by the technologist, and then the images are sent to a Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS) where they can be interpreted by a radiologist. Typical would be 5–7 minutes after the completion of scan.As for radiologist interpretation, it depends, typically on urgency. An acute stroke protocol CT in an Acute Stroke Center might be interpreted within 5 minutes of being available including a phone or electronic notification of result to the ordering physician. A regular ED study at night, absent on-site radiologist, might be given a preliminary interpretation by the ED physician within 20–30 minutes of completion while it is sent to a teleradiology company for a radiologist interpretation (preliminary or final) within 45 - 60 minutes or so. In an ED with radiology residents on on-site radiologists, final interpretations might be within 30–60 minutes. Inpatient CT studies might be interpreted within 2–4 hours. Routine outpatient CT studies might be interpreted on average in 12 - 18 hours with many sites shooting for no longer than 24 hours, though there is still significant variance in this. Of course, marking any study ASAP or STAT bumps up its priority with concomitant reduction in turn around time.Once the study is interpreted, there may be some delay before you, the patient sees it. Many institutions delay the release of lab and imaging results for 2–4 days to allow the ordering healthcare provider time to review the results before the patient sees the results. The provider can (and often will) release the results earlier upon review.
