Can peppermint oil keep mice away?

It didn’t work for me.I live in 2 floor wooden house. Tired of using glue traps and killing them after they are caught, I watched some videos in Russian on YouTube, describing some magical effects of peppermint. So I hoped they would leave peacefully away and silince would come back to the house as well.Yesterday evening I used it everywhere on the second floor and tried to fell asleep. This thing made them move faster (looks like they generally don’t like it), but they didnt even try to leave the house. I woked up several times because of the sound 3 times, thinking that a hippo infiltrated my loft and running in search of food. After this torture, I put usual glue trap. At the morning, one of them was glued. In a nutshell: as Alexander Crawley mentioned, it can make their life harder (I didnt witness myself, but some people report it worked for them). But its not magic remedy to make a colony run away from your place overnight.

Can peppermint oil keep spiders out of my home?

Essential oils such as peppermint have absolutely no effect on repelling spiders. When I grew peppermint in my garden, I found spiders making webs on the plants. So much for that theory.I know people love their pet theories concerning essential oils, but the facts speak for themselves. Peppermint oil will NOT repel spiders. Essential oils are great for perfuming soap and other skin care goods, but for causing spiders to run away in fright, yeah, not going to happen. If you know where they are getting in, then block the holes with caulking or some other barrier. If you get rid of the bugs in your house, the spiders that are already indoors will starve. If the problem of having spiders in your house bothers you that much, then kill all the ones you find. While I don’t normally encourage such behavior, the fact is, what few spiders you kill in one house isn’t going to affect the overall spider population in the world, your neighborhood, or on your street for that matter. Odds are, they live inside the walls, in your attic and in hidden places in your basement. It has been estimated that you only see 1/10th of the spiders that inhabit your house.Of course, you could catch them and let them go free outside. This way, they will provide food to birds, other spiders and small rodents. Then you will be adding to the overall health of the critters already living outside your house. I have found indoor spiders surviving just fine in my garage, so some species of indoor spiders can survive in an outdoor location. Spiders rarely live longer than twelve months, with the exception of tarantulas, which can live up to 20 years, so any spider you find in your house won’t be there next year.According to one estimate, the spiders in one acre of woodland will consume up to 80 pounds of insects per year. If you prefer insects over spiders, then you’ll know what to do.

From the ASPCA Pet Poison Helpline: “Cats are especially sensitive to essential oils, and effects such as gastrointestinal upset, central nervous system depression and even liver damage could occur if ingested in significant quantities. Inhalation of the oils could lead to aspiration pneumonia. There are significant variations in toxicity among specific oils. Based on this, we would not recommend using essential oils in areas where your pets have access, unless pets are supervised or the use of the oil is approved by your veterinarian.”From the VCA website: “Essential oils are the concentrated liquids (volatile organic compounds) of plants. Essential oils have become popular for their use in aromatherapy and alternative medicine; they are also used in cleaning products, food and drink flavorings, herbal remedies, perfumes, personal care products, and liquid potpourris used as home air fresheners and fragrances. Many liquid potpourri products and essential oils, including oil of cinnamon, citrus, pennyroyal, peppermint, pine, sweet birch, tea tree (melaleuca), wintergreen, and ylang ylang, are poisonous to dogs. Both ingestion and skin exposure can be toxic.”Most strong scents are also aversive to pets and can cause behaviour problems as a result. Few studies have been performed and those that have have shown no clear advantage of essential oils for stress and other issues.

Do mice and rats really hate the smell of peppermint?

This is Jerry. Jerry is a mouse and he loves cheese. Jerry can smell the cheese even from rooms apart. This is what attracts him and makes him stay in the house.Reality check: The scenario above is not realistic, because mice and rats are not attracted to cheese. However, they still love the scent of food, so they will be naturally drawn to it when they detect it.Peppermint has a sharp odour even for us. Even some people don’t like it. And because mice and rats have a stronger sense of smell, it irritates their olfactory nerves.Peppermint can also serve to mask the smell of food, so rodents aren’t attracted to it.Those are the two basic functions of peppermint. Is it effective? Maybe. In some cases. Are you going to solve your rat infestation with peppermint? Highly doubt it. It’s usually used as a preventative measure and as complementary means. You can read more about it here: How to Rodent-Proof Your Home | Fantastic Pest Control MelbourneYou better get into the habit of proofing as soon as possible. Will an electronic pest repeller hurt my ferrets?

I did some quick research and it says that rodent pets such as hamsters and ferrets must be kept in a separate, closed off area away from the ultra sonic waves. I'm not sure what the range is, but if the range is small enough that putting your pets in another room keeps them away from it, how well can it really work? I recently had a mouse problem but got rid of it. I had been hearing something running around my ceiling (drop ceiling in the basement) for a few weeks and got some of those wooden traps that snap. I put some in the ceiling and some in the storage under the kitchen and caught maybe 6 mice within the week. I knew there was a small hole in the storage room going to outside so I got my dad to take a look and when he moved some insulation, dozens of mice ran out. It was crazy. He fixed up the hole that day and we haven't had any mice in our traps since. You should check around if there's anywhere the mice could be getting in, and I suggest strategically placing a few wooden snapping mouse traps around wherever those areas might be. Mice run along walls and cover their whole territory every night. Good luck!

Is it a good idea to eat 1-2 peppermint candies a day, whenever after a big meal?

Peppermint candies contain sugar, corn syrup and natural peppermint oil. In 3 candies there is 60 calories, 15 grams of cornos syrup and 10 grams of sugar (Bulk Mints | Bulk Starlight Peppermints). You may only take half of that amount, but in essence these are empty calories and contribute to your body producing more insulin than you need and causing hypoglycemia: Glucose Tolerance Test, Typical Response Patterns.Once you have a pattern of hypoglycemia, you will get food cravings and eat much more high density carbs than you need, which makes the food cravings worse. That is the problem that has started the obesity wave around the globe. Conclusion: You asked about peppermint candies: "I want to know is that a good thing to do?" The clear answer to that is "NO".
