Will School Be Canceled On Monday

How cold does it have to be to get school canceled for the day?

I miss snow-days. There was something so magical and wonderful about waking up, feeling your blankets and pillows arranged all around you just the way you like them, and having your mom come in to tell you that you can sleep in because it’s a snow day and the buses have been cancelled. I would get to sleep in and then go play outside with my friends later.Cold days on the other hand? Those were slightly less fun but fairly common in northern Ontario. I mean don’t get me wrong I stilled liked them. What kid doesn't like a reason not to go to school? It’s just that I didn't like playing outside as often on cold days. Freezing cold temperatures and winds don’t feel great on the face after a few hours outside.I really hated the almost cold days most though. There was nothing quite as sad as waking up, checking the thermometer outside, half filled with hope and half with dread, and seeing that it was -34C. The cut off for cold days was -35C. If it was -34C we still had to go to school. In those moments it would feel like the universe was conspiring against me.

Will 40-50 mm of rain cancel school in Canada?

The weather forcast shows a storm warning, calling for up to 40-50 mm of rain or more! It says :

Can school be cancelled because it's too cold out?

YES!

I am from minnesota originally and school did get cancelled when the temperature was usually below -20 degrees F. When it get that cold, If parts of your skin are exposed it can go into frostbite mode in around 10 minutes. So as a child who took the bus, sometimes you had to wait 15 to 20 minutes and that is dangerous for a child in that weather. So in my experience, school has been canceled due to severely cold weather.

Can high winds cancel a school?

only if it knocks the power out or if its also snowing

Can school be canceled because of heavy rain?

Only if a significant amount of roads are blocked by fallen trees, power lines, etc. Sometimes if the entrance to certain schools are flooded, then those will close.

What are your thoughts of the school that canceled the play “Hunchback of Notre Dame”, because they casted a white actress for a character that was black. Who was in the right?

"Because of institutionalized racism this results in white children being cast in roles written as white parts and also white children being cast in roles that were specifically intended for people of color," the group said in one of the demands. "Make no mistake, the world is not colorblind. Casting cannot be colorblind. Enough is Enough."These days, in the theatre, it is common to see people of colour cast in roles traditionally conceived of as white, or women taking over parts written for men. When I saw the Globe Theatre’s touring production of Hamlet, a woman played the part of Horatio, and the actor playing Hamlet had light brown skin. This is because the Globe’s policy was to cast the best actors that they could find. Colorblind and even gender-blind casting does happen in contemporary theatre at the highest level. This isn’t to say that casting should always be colorblind - that certainly wouldn’t work where a realistic depiction of race is essential to the subject matter, but casting can be colorblind. So, the students’ protest strikes me as naive. But they are students. They are allowed to be naive. They are getting involved in politics, expressing their views, and taking responsibility for a performance they are appearing in. Whatever production they choose to do it will be the result of a decision they all took together, and they’ll be motivated to do well. And the world does not suffer from a shortage of high school productions of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Maybe they’ll come up with a new musical, and it will be great. Whatever happens, we know that they won’t just be going through the motions.

Can severe storms cancel school?

I live in Monticello, MN and we are suppose to get about like 5-7 inches of rain throughout today through Tuesday. We are suppose to get strong winds and large hail Sunday with a chance all day almost but greatest chance late evening. Then more severe/strong storms Monday morning. If it is hailing or we are in a tornado warning (They say we have a good chance for a tornado) would they cancel school?
