Will There Ever Be A Woman Nfl Head Coach

What is the likelihood of a woman ever coaching an NFL or D1 college football team?

There is a shift happening. In the NBA the Spurs have a female assistant coach. It will be a process. Some organization will recognize the abilities of a female associate and with the right connections she could be promoted to assistant coach. That would give her the expertise and credibility needed to become a head coach. This could become possible in the next 30 years. The process could be sped up if girls were allowed to participate in football at the collegiate level. a Shift is happening, ask Sarah Thomas, the first female to be considered as an NFL official.

How come there are no Female head coaches in the NFL?

When they had the replacement referees I know there was at least 1 female referee. But there are no female head coaches in the NFL because there are no females with the qualifications to be an NFL head coach. Please don't interpret that as being sexist. Just hear me out first.

At both the high school level and the college level there are no female football programs. And there are very very few female football players even at the high school level, let alone at the college level.

How then if the female doesn't have the experience of playing or coaching at even the high school or college level can she hope to apply successfully for an NFL head coaching job.

To me, the major US professional sport that should be most likely to have a female head coach should be the NBA. Basketball has women's basketball all the way from the high school level up to the professional level. And I'm sure there might be some women's basketball coaches like Tennessee's former head coach, Connecticut's head coach, Nell Fortner, Reggie Miller's sister, etc that could be a good NBA coach.

However in football, there is no organized system where a woman can get the experience she needs to compete for a head coaching job in the NFL. Without that experience, it makes the ability of the NFL to hire a woman coach almost impossible.

Also there are very very few women referees even at the college level. So that makes it hard to find competent women referees for the NFL level. However, I think it would be easier to find a woman NFL referee than it would be to find one with the experience to be an NFL head coach.

Are women smart enough to be a head coach in football? Of course they are! But without the experience, they just wouldn't be able to properly coach a professional football team.

Longest NFL head coach on one team?

Longest tenured CURRENT coach is Belichick.

Tom Landry coached 29 consecutive seasons for Dallas Cowboys from 1960-1988.
Curly Lambeau coached 29 consecutive years for Green Bay Packers from 1921-1949.
Don Shula coached 26 consecutive years for Miami Dolphins. 1970-1995.
Chuck Noll coached for 23 consecutive seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

George Halas coached for 40 total seasons for the Chicago Bears but they were not consecutive. He'd coached for 10 seasons, then not coach for a few seasons., then coach for 10 seasons, then not coach for a few seasons, and so forth.

Why are there no female NFL coaches?

The reason is that before they coached, NFL head coaches played football. Of the 32 coaches that began last season as a NFL head coach, 10 of them played in the NFL. Of the 22 that did not play in the NFL, 20 of them played in college. The other two played high school football. Of those two, one was offered a walk on tryout in college but was much more gifted as a coach than physically so he was given a position as a student coach rather than a walk on player. The only coach that doesn't fit any of the categories above is Ben Mcadoo and he will be fired at the end of the season if not before. The point is that the 32 men that are NFL head coaches have been living and dying football since they were kids. They've played the game for years before they coached and then took a job as an Assistant Coach and worked their way up through the ranks. It is extremely rare for a female to play at even the high school level. Almost unheard of for a female to play at the college level and when they do it's always as a kicker. This limits the odds of females getting into coaching because they didn't play.

Why isnt there any Female Head Coaches in the NFL?

they don't want the job?

How can I coach football In the NFL?

You actually have a few paths to becoming a football coach in the NFL. First, are you talking about a head coach, or any type of coach? It’ll be easier to become an assistant coach or a quality control coach than a head coach at first. If you have some knowledge of football already, getting to know some NFL coaches and staff and trying to work your way onto the staff, first as an administrative assistant, then gradually working your way up the ranks, moving from job to job and improving your coaching credentials is one way to go. Try to find a good team with strong assistants. Show your value to these assistants, and if you get lucky they’ll get head coaching jobs and hire you to their new team (hopefully with a promotion). If you don’t have any football experience, it’s time to learn the game then follow the steps from there. Also, realize that “working your way up from high school” isn’t the way to go. It’s generally better to be a lower level assistant in the football office of an NFL or top tier college team than to be a high school head coach if your goal is the NFL. This is simply because of the connections you make, you’re much more likely to build relationships with future head coaches if you’re already working at a high level, and you’ll learn more in the process.Your other option is to get to know the owner of an NFL team and convince him to hire you, or just buy an NFL team yourself and make yourself the head coach! You don’t need any football experience to do either of these things, although it would probably make things easier if you have some.
