Woodbeams/flooring Over Carpet

Can you install laminate flooring over carpet?

Yes, many interior decorators are placing thinly layered laminate flooring over carpet. Though it is not recommended in most of the situations as you know carpet has a soft and thin surface, so the laminate over it will not get the support it requires to keep the locking system. If you have any query regarding flooring, you can get connected with Twin Brothers Flooring, who is one of the best flooring installers in the Tampa area, Florida.

Levelling part of a wood floor?

Febfloor is a branded latex levelling compound that is good or as good but cheaper try wickes.co.uk ( pg-51 £8 ish, sorry old book !! )

Hope this helps

What would happen if I installed new laminate flooring over existing laminate flooring?

What would happen depends entirely on how well the first laminate floor was installed.  Laminate flooring floats above the subfloor.  If the subfloor is a concrete slab and there are small 'birdbaths' in it the floor will bridge across these dips and appear level, but will depress slightly when weight is applied.  When a thick underlayment was used during installation this is mitigated somewhat, but the movement is still there, and eventually this will become a weak spot in the floor as the constant flexing of the joints will begin to degrade the connection between the individual pieces of flooring.  When you cover this up with a new layer you will only transfer the problem upward. So if the bottom layer is a perfect installation with no issues then the new layer should be fine.  If the primary layer was professionally installed, with the edges under all trim, with doors and cased openings trimmed to fit, then all of that precise work will have to be removed and/or undercut to accommodate the higher elevation of the new floor, which is an added expense in both labor and material, as baseboard and door casing are easily cracked or really dinged up when finish nails are pulled through them. All in all, though possible, and occasionally done successfully, laying a new laminate floor atop an older one isn't recommended, and is something I wouldn't do in my house.  Thanks for the A2A Scott.
