Would A Labret Piercing Look Good On Me

Would a labret piercing look good on me?

So on Saturday, I'm either getting my labret pierced (not vertical labret) or getting my ears pierced at 10g (and then stretching them to 4g in the future). I just can't decide which one to do?

First of all, I want to know if the labret would even look good on me. Any answers like "Ew piercings are gross" will just be ignored because your mind is too narrow to understand that there are people in the world who like different things than you.

Secondly, my only worry with a labret is that I've heard they cause gum/tooth damage? Are there any companies that sell silicone or rubber backed labret bars? It would make sense, that way it's soft and not metal or plastic?

Best I can find for pictures:

Seriously though, only answer if you're actually trying to help. So what should I do? Labret, or ears?

How to tell if you look good with a lip piercing?

If you bend a staple and put it around your lip its a little fade but works really well! or with a silver sharpie draw a dot where a snake bit might go it works!!!!!!! trust me!
same with your nose!!

Would I look good with a vertical labret?

I know this isn't a tattoo question but I figured it's the closest category to piercings. I've really been interested in getting one for more than a few years now. For anyone that doesn't know, this is a vertical labret: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fakingacoma...

Here are a couple pictures of me... http://tinypic.com/r/qx9cm9/6 and http://tinypic.com/r/aeuszo/6

I know I should get it 'cause I want and not what others think if it will look good or not.. but I'm just genuinely curious about people's opinions. Thanks :)

Vertical labret piercing (but I want it to look like...)?

None that I can think of. A vertical labret is basically adapted eyebrow jewelry- that is to say, a curved barbell with two balls to hold it on. You can get a flat disc at the top sometimes, or a clear plastic top ball, but there really is no jewelry that is just one ball.

A plastic stud may help to prevent tooth damage on a regular labret. The main issue is metal, as it is stronger than tooth enamel or the flesh of gums. Vertical labrets, as you probably know, are safer, as when placed correctly they will not encounter anything inside your mouth (also easier healing, for this reason). So, eliminate the issue altogether, or get weaker material so if anything wears, it is your jewelry.

I had a vertical labret for several months before the jewelry fell out and it closed up (not common, don't worry), and now have a lip piercing, though I wear a small ring in it as it is placed to not even touch my teeth or gums. The vertical labret was a much better and easier healing. The procedure, I felt, was less traumatic and painful. The main problem was drinking out of cups, cans, etc- during the healing, resting anything on it too hard hurts, so straws are your friend. The labret was more painful for me, and requires more intensive care- mouthwash and the like.

Honestly, I felt my vertical labret was better. The only issue I personally had with it was that any kind of rough activity that tugs at your lip will hurt for a bit. Also, though eyebrow jewelry comes in retainers, I feel it is easier to hide a labret for work and such.

Should I get a stretched labret piercing?

First start with a regular labretpiercing, with initial jewelry at 1.6, or 2.0 mm (don’t go for the very tiny 1.2 mm). Let it heal. Get used to it. Let your family and friends and work colleagues used to it.Then do a first stretch, one size up. It will still be a labret-post with some ball or jewel on the outside. The fact that the post is thicker, does not necesarely show on the outside. Finding this jewelry is tricky : go to specialised shops and websites. The human mouth mucosa and the skin are both rapid growing tissues, and there isn’t much more involved then that in a labretpiercing. So you could stretch to 3 or 4 mm, and still get it healed. There is likely to be a small scar or small dimple but the hole WILL close. If at that stage you are happy with the looks, the feel, the reactions from your loved ones, you could continue stretching. But you are moving into the area where ‘rapid healing’ when taking it out, is less and less guaranteed. On the other hand, you can just accept what life brings and don’t bother.Suppose you stretched to 12 mm and you would like to take it out, what will happen ? Well the hole will not look nice, and it will not evenly close. So the best thing to do is to first downsize from 12 to 10 mm, and then very gradually downsize further, while keeping good skin and mouth hygiene. There is a good chance that the hole will shrink, more evenly and more esthetically then when radically taking out all jewelry.Stretched labretpiercings look great, show commitment, are not too difficult to do, so I would not hesitate.

Should i get a septum piercing?? i can't tell if it'll look good. HELP!!!! pics included?

So i have my navel done twice, my left nostril, my cartilage, and my ears are double pierced with the first holes stretched to 12 gauge (hoping to go bigger soon!! woot.)
So obviously I like piercings quite a bit. the next one i want is my septum (that fleshy bit between your nostrils) done. just looking for an opinion on wether or not it would suit me. don't bother saying piercings are gross or anything. thanks you all so much!

How can I avoid gum recession from a labret piercing?

In my experience as a dental assistant, the few times that a patient with a chin labret came into our dental office, they had recession of the gingiva (gums). One unfortunate patient had a severe infection from improper follow up care that they had cellulitis ( severe infection) to the degree that they were put on a strong, broad spectrum antibiotic for a full ten days prior to treatment. The patient opted to remove the piercing on their own and with medication and the source of infection removed, the infection resolved. So back to the gum recession, the labret is usually placed between the lip and chin which is exactly where your gum line is. Unless you opt for a lower placed chin labret piercing where the labret is placed lower than your gum line then odds are that you will un avoidably have gum recession. I had my tongue pierced for many years so it’s not that I’m anti piercing, however there are much better places to have them placed.
