Can I get into Penn State?

Getting into Penn State University Park is tough. I had a cumulative high school gpa of 98.6 and an SAT combined math/reading score of 1330 (Penn State didn't factor the writing score in, and still doesn't to my knowledge). I got accepted, as did one other of my high school friends who had a gpa of 96 and SAT of 1240 or so, but no one else from my high school was accepted to main campus. Another of my friends, his gpa also in the 90s and SAT score of 1100-something, was not accepted, so it is indeed difficult.
However, there are plenty of options for you. Penn State has 20 campuses, some of which are much easier to get into. I know many people from my high school who had similar grades and SAT scores to yours, and they currently attend Penn State Altoona. With Penn States 2+2 program, you can attend a branch campus for 2 years and then transfer to University Park the beginning of your junior year. With your scores and grades, this is probably your best option.
Here is a list of your campus choices:

Colleges don't usually take work experience into account for admission, but if you have trouble getting into a branch campus, I recommend you go and talk to an admissions person, as Penn State doesn't want to turn away hard working students such as yourself.
Good luck to you, I hope you get to enjoy the Penn State experience!

Can i get into Penn State with a 3.2-3.4 GPA?

depends do you want main campus or branch? incoming freshmen can slide in by going over the summer before their fall semester

Can I get into Penn State with a 3.2 GPA?

My GPA is a 3.2 which is basically an 87 average. On my first SAT I scored a 1560 out of 2400 but I took a class and I took another SAT but I'm still waiting for the score. I'm still working on bringing my grades up do you think I can get in? Please answer and please be honest!

How hard is it to get into Penn State Engineering?

When I went to Penn State many, many years ago, getting into the College of Engineering was not very difficult. The difficulty was not flunking out! They had freshman weed out courses that were killers — Calculus, Chemistry, Physics even before you had any basic engineering courses. I lasted one term and, although I didn’t flunk out, I changed my major to avoid the spring rush to get into the Penn State College of Business Administration. I graduated with a BS and I am convinced I made a better COO with a solid financial background managing and Engineering company than I would have been being an engineer.

Chances of getting into Penn State?

Hi there - sorry to say that I agree with the others - seems your grades might not be quite good enough. Penn State does look at other factors, particularly afterschool activities and test scores, so there is still a slight chance.

However, you may want to consider, if you are not accepted to main campus, going to a branch for 1 year, working really hard, and then trying to apply to transfer in to main. Actually, since your grades aren't outstanding, this might be a better path to take since Penn State main is difficult. For me, it was culture shock going from high school (where I did really well) to a state university - huge classes, little individualized attention - you have to work a million times harder than you do in high school. Why risk a poor freshman GPA when you mgiht be able to succeed at a branch, get some general education coursework out of the way, and then be more prepared for main campus.

If you do get a rejection letter, don't get too disappointed - consider these other options so you're prepared either way. Good luck!

Can I Get Into Penn State With These Statistics?

Okay as the 1st comment is simply rude I will try to give you some valuable information. I was accepted into Main campus with a 1690 (still considered somewhat low) but my GPA was decent 3.81 with some pretty hard classes on top of that I was the captain of my volleyball team on the basketball team varsity and jv was involved in National Honor society so I had a well rounded application. I also took advantage of the ACT because on my SAT I got a 640 critical reading ( definitely high enough for psu) and a 540 math somewhat low.. for psu When I took the ACT i got a 26 on the math section so when you convert it its around a 600 on the sat. So my scores were okay at the end of it. Do you have a chance of course you do apply my friend got in with a 1500, mind you he was a minority which is a factor but its definitely possible. PSU also gives borderline students summer acceptance to main you come in the summer and take classes and can begin in the fall. Worst comes to worse they will send you to a branch campus. YOU WILL GET INTO a branch campus. And you graduate with A PSU degree so in the long run I wouldn't worry to much. Take advantage of the opportunites around you apply to safety universities, and talk to your guidance counselor and Take the ACT if you can If you can get above a 26 on the ACT you will have a much better shot. Good luck

Will I be accepted into Penn State with a 3.3 GPA and 23 on the ACT? My extracurriculars include being the founder and President of my school's Art Club, and I am going to retake the ACT.

With those achievements, start thinking about applying to several state schools. If that ACT was on a good day, then your 3.3 GPA and starting your own club so you can be president isn’t going to impress anyone. Sorry. You’re going to need a different career strategy if you want to work in a professional field (not that you should necessarily do that; skilled workers — electricians, plumbers, carpenters and auto technicians — generally make more than most white collar jobs). Think in terms of going to your community college and then academically blow the doors off your two years there; most states are trying to emphasize the transfer opportunities from CC.
