July - No Peace On Earth August - Blood, Sweat & Tears September - NO PPV! Would pro wrestling make me ineligible for a college wrestling team?
NCAA rules provide that you are ineligible to participate in a sport you have played professionally.There is however a glimmer of hope. During litigation over steroid use, WWE's CEO said matches were pre-determined. Had to do it to avoid being regulated like a sports enterprise. Was also done when states such as Maryland wanted to regulate their events.So you've got the argument that it wasn't a professional wrestling competition and thus still eligible.Unfortunately, that doesn't help you much.As Jeremy Bloom found out when he wanted to move from pro skiing to college football, part of his earnings were not based on winning competitions or being hired to perform, part of his earnings was over selling his likeness.A pro wrestler is paid to perform athletic feats for entertainment not competition (as established by the sports commission situations). In other words paid to use his likeness in performing athletic exhibitions.A pro wrestler would not only be ineligible to be an NCAA wrestler but ineligible for all sports under the NCAA umbrella.
Why don't we start a pro wrestling organization in India?
India is a huge market. WWE hasnt tried to capitalize it yet!Lets be honest here, hiring Khali wasnt really them trying to reach out to Indian viewers. We were disgusted seeing him in the ring. We were disgusted when we say him barely able to walk.TNA tried Ring Ka King in India. For the first few weeks, I watched it. Then i totally lost interest. It wasn't a lot of wrestling. It was just boring. The names of the so called Indian wrestlers, the old story lines, the pathetic excuse for a WWE rip off. It just didn't connect. Also, since we are so used to listening to English commentary now, Hindi commentary felt flat and bland and comical.I understand that there are a lot of WWE fanatics in India, but lets be honest here. How many of us know about any wrestling promotion other than WWE? How many of us have actually religiously followed wrestling from the get go? How many of us believe that we are willing to pay Rs/- 5000 or more just to go and see RAW from the back seats?Its not just a question of why anyone hasn't started a wrestling promotion in India. Its a question of - Whether it is viable? And the answer as of now is NO.Justifications - 1. Cricket > any other sport in India.2. Kushti has been played for a long time in India, look where it stands.3. Wrestling wont be a sustainable model, because there arent any pre established stars.4. Till now, WWE (the biggest promotion in the world) hasnt tried its hands in the indian market. So we cant expect anyone else too.
What is the best pro wrestling stable of all time? And why?
I am surprised no one has mentioned The Four Horsemen. The Horsemen were comprised of Ric Flair, Arn and Ole Anderson, Tully Blanchard. THe group later expanded to include JJ Dillon, Lex Luger, Curt Hennig and so on at various points in time. The Horsemen was one of the first times a heel stable was created in professional wrestling. They feuded with the likes of Dusty Rhodes, Magnum TA and so on. All the tactics you see nowadays from heel stables, like the gang warefare, the Horsemen did it first. At the peak of their career all four core members of the stable held gold, a concept WWE would recreate later with Evolution. The thing which made the Horsemen stand out was in my opinion, they werent four guys randomly thrown together, they rode together, they travelled together and fought together. They were the best at that time, and as a team they were better.Newer fans don't know much about the Horsemen because their heyday was back in the late 1980s and they were in the NWA and later in WCW. But it's worth going back and watching them for a bit. Because if it wasn't for the Horsemen, there would never have been a NWO, DX or Evolution.
