Would Most Americans Be Better Off If Every American Politician Obeyed The United States

Where would you rather live: United States, Canada, Japan, Western Europe, Scandinavia, or Australia? Why?

If I were single and had my choice, I'd pick Canada, hands down.
As a Michiganian, I'm only an hour away and visit there frequently...it's like being an a different planet. No slums; even the least affluent areas are well-kept. Beautiful, clean, public transporation that people can be seen riding at all hours of the night without fear. Lovely people who actually obey traffic laws and >gasp< drive the speed limit!!! (May I point out that when the World Series was held in Toronto, a mere TWO police officers needed to be assigned to crowd control?)
Canadians are allowed to own shotguns and rifles, but their gun-related crime rate is a tiny fraction of that in the U.S.
Yes, the taxes may be higher, but you can actually see the Canadian's tax dollars at work, instead of being dumped into a never-ending military pit. I'd certainly rather my taxes went to healthcare coverage for children.
Additionally, Canada is not exporting all their decent wage-paying jobs to Mexico, like some certain countries I know...
I'm not sure what "freedoms" it is that you think the Canadian (or European) people lack (I've been to Europe as well)...but to each his own.
Oh another thing...that FLAG :) I do love maple trees ;)

Edit to Spay and Neut: be SURE to check out Ireland! Mild temperate weather, English-speaking, and while there's of course no skiing, it's a cyclist's dream come true!

Edit to Misty: My God Girl, you're Irish?! I knew I liked you for a reason! :)

Should the american colonies continue to obey the british government?

During this war the split was like this. Torrie's, those who sided with the English rule, were 1/3 of the country. Those who rebelled against the rule were 1/3.
The last 1/3 were not sure one way or the other.
The Torrie's decided that the way that the English were ruling was ok and did everything that they could to stay subjects to the Crown.
They saw nothing wrong with the Crown posting soldiers in their homes or feeding them without being paid.
When the war was lost many of them moved to Canada.

Are American soldiers naive?

I was talking to a British soldier who is back from Iraq. He says the British military over there spend a lot of time discussing the rights and wrongs of their presence there, and that there's general agreement that their purpose is to keep the oil in American hands.
However, he said, what he found interesting was that the American soldiers seem to believe their government's line, that they are there to fight 'terrorism' and 'help' the Iraqis. The Americans, apparently, don't really discuss these issues and tend to believe what they are told without question. Why this difference in attitude, I wonder? Are the Americans naive and gullible, or are the British cynical?

Why are Americans so clueless about Canada/Canadians?

All you people are moron.. Americans Are people of all country's that is what this country so great. A chance to Live in free world.. I don't agree with some of the decisions our so called leader make. I really wish people would just understand Not every American thinks and act like that. The problem is with people like you that stereotype its the same as being racist. So go to canada see how long they put up with your stupidity.

Why do the Americans on this site think the laws in their country apply everywhere else?

Multiple times I’ve been on the politics section discussing things like age of consent in my country and then I have some old dude or whatever who is clearly American correcting me and saying that “the age of consent is actually 18 not 16” or what the **** ever

Is it true that 2/3 of Americans are afraid to stand up to the NeoCons, for their part, in the 9/11 attack ?

Research has shown that some percentage of our predisposition to follow authority may be genetically based, not just learned. In order to overcome this tendency, one must have a strong conscience. Those without conscience are sociopaths. I definitely believe the system plays those with weak conscience and strong predisposition to follow authority. Look at how people are manipulated by religion. Even with a strong conscience which is capable of overriding our strong urge to follow authority, people have a difficult time understanding or empathizing with the sociopathic mind. This is the reason, I believe, for people's skepticism against the 9/11 conspiracy theorys. Only extreme sociopathic minds could conceive of carrying out scenarios such as these. But most sociopaths have something very much in common - their need for your pity.
I don't see much of this going on. I personally am not convinced by the various DVD documentaries about the 9/11 conspiracies. And I only see very little of the appeals for my pity by those in power. The Project for a New American Century is certainly real, as is the involvement of certain people in our administration. I think intense greed and sense of entitlement by those in power, and perhaps a sociopathic disregard for other human beings outside the "circle" have more to do with the state of affairs we find ourselves in today.
