Would You Mind Giving Opinion On My Story Beginning

How to write the beginning of a story?

You can start a story in a few different ways. Each one will lead to a different feel of the scene, so choose carefully.

Description: "It was a dark and stormy night..." The plus of this method is that it allows for some nice description. The con is that often it can get boring to listen to the author prattle on about the moon, or a person. A good way to do it is to first give a concise yet powerful description of something, then tie it in to something that is happening in the story.

Dialog: When you start out with dialog, it's usually a good way to start characterizing your characters. Right away you can show your writer how they speak, their relationship to one another, perhaps their education based on word use: Anything that you would be able to glean from talking to someone. You just need to be sure to make the conversation interesting in some way.

Action: Jumping right into the action can be hard to tie into the plot, but it can be a good way to grab your reader's attention.

Narration: When you begin with your characters thoughts, musings, or monologue, such as "So many times he wondered, what was the meaning of life?" or "It was five years ago on this very day that my pet hamster died".

One thing to watch out for in all beginnings is to avoid giving too much background right away. Only tell the reader what they really need to know. If you can find the balance between telling them enough for them to follow the story and hiding enough so that things are still surprising and unexpected, it will become more suspenseful and enjoyable.

If you're not sure what scene to start with, just try to think of how the story works. Think of a scene that will lay the foundation of the rest of the story, and start with that.

Can you give me your opinion?

I like this.

It has a unique, consistent tone, and reveals enough about Aubrey Jane Clark that you want to know more about her, but aren't totally clueless about her personality. It has some cool philosophies that I would love to see developed throughout the story.

The problem I had with it was that it did not feel very connected. You got into the description of her philosophies about life, and it got me all excited about knowing where these tie in to her experiences. But then you never really connected them. I can kind of see where they would connect, but it's not satisfying to have to guess about that. I'm not saying you have to give everything away, but I think it would make your writing a lot more appealing if yuo could show or hint at why and how these philosophies matter to your character.

Also, for a journal, this seems incredibly planned. Journals are typically more off the cuff. Obviously, since this is a story, it's going to be thought out/planned. But if you're writing it in the form of a journal, I'd reccomend making it sound more raw. Giving it more voice could work wonders for this. Of course, maybe your character is just the type to plan everything out no matter what it is (even if it's her journal). In which case, by all means, make this sound planned. But if overplanning is not a character trait of hers, I think you should try to make this sound more raw-- like your character just vomitted out all her thoughts-- whilst still maintaining quality writing.

Good luck. Keep going.

How do I stop having a dirty mind?

Our thoughts are powerful things! They motivate everything we do, for good or for bad. I had a very good life coach give me a tool that changed my thought life forever. Did you know that you CAN control your thoughts?? For many years I was dragged around and bullied by my own thoughts, not believing I could do anything about it. She told me her story of overcoming her own bad thoughts and it inspired me to believe I could too.It is true that we can’t control every thought that comes to our minds, but we DO have a choice to keep thinking it or junk it. It doesn’t come naturally, and it won’t be a one time fix. But if you really want to stop thinking dirty, or any other negative thought, you have to replace the thoughts with different thoughts. And keep on replacing them, with whatever thoughts or actions that you decide are better. Example: You are working on homework and out of nowhere you’re thinking something dirty. Try reading your school paper out loud, focusing on the words, or turn on your favorite (non dirty) song and sing out loud, or do jumping jacks and count out loud, etc. Whatever healthy things that will jolt your thoughts from the negative to the positive. If you are somewhere that you can’t sing or jump around, you can still do it in your head. I’m not embarrassed to say that as a grown woman I have yelled Mary had a Little Lamb over and over, in my head, until a bad thought was gone. If they persist, or are images, you can create an ideal thought image to replace it with. Example: You are in a meeting and you ‘see’ the speaker naked, or in some other sexual way. Decide to replace the naked image with that person in a clown suit, or imagine yourself playing a sport, at a concert, etc.At first it will be uncomfortable and unnatural, but the more you practice the easier it gets!

Why do people give opinions and make statements without knowing the whole situation?

Everything we witness about us is the result of what we are, naturally then when the occasion is apparent that we have an opportunity to influence our cause it would seem inappropriate to abandon the situation declaring inadequacy.Self interest is the foundation of a Specialized Society,  but the demands of having highly developed renditions of ooccupation and pass time outside of work means that interest is rarely shared, so a common understanding of just about everything is beyond self interest.Since there is little common interest knowledge must likewise be limited. If knowledge about particular phenomena or Social Development was necessary at a certain level of accomplishment, very few things of importance would be able to be agreed upon.Ironically we rely on the exploiters of  ignorance to cause harmony in Society by manipulating group consciousness to achieve agreements. There is no alternative to that focus of attention always being without individuals knowing the full story and consequently surrendering their opinion and attitude based on a feeling they have coinciding with what has been reflected to them and from them in the past.If people were able to be competent with regard to assertions they make it would be a much better place, one way individuals could develop their knowledge and have better capability would be for a more intelligent approach to entertainment and truthfulness expressed by all institutions.

What genre is my story?

Im having a little trouble determining what genre my story falls in. So i was wondering if anyone knows what genre my story is? Its about a girl who's half-human and half-barbarian. she must choose between giving up her desires to prevent a war and keep the peace between the barbarians and people of her realm or be with the man she loves.
I am also wondering if there's any way i would be able to add in magic/sorcery and magical creatures, such as elves, dwarfs, centaurs etc. And if i can, how? Im also having trouble adding that in.
thanks!
