Would You Say The Korean War Is Still Going On

Is the Korean War still going on today?

The war is not over, a cease fire, as you stated, is in effect. Thousands of soldiers still face-off with each across the 38th Parallel, including our own 2nd ID.

NoKor's policy still remains the same, ie, total reunification of the penninsula

Do you think the Korean War will restart?

In a way I'm hoping the Boston bombings are NK's fault.

Because I know we would @#$%ing end it.

What launched the Korean War?

That would be C.

Kim Il Sung petitioned Stalin several times in 1949 for permission to invade South Korea. In late January 1950 Stalin finally gave his assent and dispatched large amounts of military aid and Soviet advisers to prepare the invasion. Stalin finally approved Kim’s request because the United States had withdrawn its last ground combat unit from South Korea in June 1949 and Kim promised that the Korean People’s Army (KPA) could conquer the South before the United States could intervene decisively. Another consideration was that the United States had indicated that Korea was not needed for “strategic purposes,” a euphemism for bases from which to fight the Soviet Union in World War III. The chances of a direct confrontation with the United States thus appeared small.

BOY was that a really bad error in Soviet and NORKOR judgment!

Which is correct: Korean War or Korean Conflict?

Both guys before me are correct. The US. has not declared war since 1941, a day or two after the japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. After that Germany declared war on the US, and we did the same to them. Since then we have not been at war officially. Obviously Korea, and Vietnam were wars, The government just labels them differently for political reasons. If we had openly declared war against Vietnam, it would have given the soviets, and chinese to openly declare war on south vietnam.

Another example is in Afghanistan. We aren't at war. The taliban are not a nation, the are a terrorist organization. You can't really have a country declare war on a small group of people like that. It would be like us declaring war on Eskimos because we didn't like there beliefs. One benefit to this is that captured soldiers aren't prisoners of war, and don't necessarily fall under the Geneva convention. We classify them as enemy combatants. As enemy combatants, there are things we can do to/with them that we couldn't other wise.

Back to the original question. If memory serves correct, Korea was considered a police action, and vietnam was called a conflict.
