Your Very Best Honest Answer

Honesty-- the best policy?

Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy. It is the only policy for me,far as whatever I say to those around me.There is never an exception, in my opinion. If you can't tell the truth, than just don't say anything. Here's my way to do that,"I don't feel comfortable sharing that with you."If you feel you need to lie to me,then I REALLY don't feel comfortable around you at all.Lying sacrifices your intregrity & is never ok with me.

What is your honest opinion of Yahoo Answers?

I've often thought some of the same things you mention about Yahoo Answers. First of all, it's disappointing and annoying to see so many useless questions and answers. So much of the content on this site is just noise. I also agree that there are some very disturbing questions and answers being tossed around here. I see a lot of hateful speech and views that are not very thoughtful. Perhaps that's just a reflection of society in general (after all, I see a lot of that on TV, as well).

My approach is to stick to the areas where I think a forum like Yahoo answers can be very useful. For example, I think this can be a decent place to ask for advice on shopping for a digital camera, or fixing a problem with a computer. Hopefully, someone with real life experience can point you in the right direction. Another area is travel, where local people can give you inside information on places to go and things to do in a distant city. Occasionaly, I even find a good joke or riddle here. Finding the corners of answers that tend to have good questions and answers is key to getting something out of the experience. For example, I don't find much value hanging out in the Celebrities section--but that's just me.

You're right to be concerned about people asking questions to strangers that they should be asking experts or family members about. My hope here is that Answers is just a sounding board where they can easily get some opinions while preserving their anonymity, and that they'll go to the right people afterward.

So those are some of my thoughts. Thanks for the thought-provoking question.

You are very young to be concerned with this. BMI calculators are not accurate, as they only use stored data. They don't know your body. Instead of losing weight, why don't you tone your muscles? It's much better for you.

But at 118 pounds at 14, you are perfectly normal as you are.

Is honesty the best answer to the question during a job interview "why do you want to work here?" My honest answer is because I need a job to have money.

Is honesty the best answer to the question during a job interview "why do you want to work here?" My honest answer is because I need a job to have money.I want you to imagine that you are looking for a babysitter to care for your beloved niece and nephew, a pair of 4 year-old twins. They’re a bit of a handful—they’re 4 after all—but you know that they need a careful hand.Which answer from a prospective baby sitter makes you feel better about leaving the kids in his/her care:I’m just doing this gig so I can keep my mobile game habit under control—and hey, how do I disable the parental controls on your TV?I used to watch my little brother and little sisters—triplets—when they were four, so I’ve got this! While honesty is good, there’s an important lesson here: in a job search, be your best self.

Do waitstaff in the USA appreciate an honest answer to "How's your meal?" or is it a mere formality?

When I waited tables the only thing I cared about was the tip on the table. Asking if your meal was pleasant is only relevant in regards to the size of the tip. If it was unpleasant then I needed to fix the problem. That said, I’ve only ever worked at places with good food and competent cooks so it would have been surprising if the meal was not up to par. 99 times out of a 100 the answer was always that it was a good meal. When your ability to pay your rent depends on your quality of service then you get pretty good at faking caring. Thats not to say that I don’t want you to have a good meal. Heck, I want everybody everywhere to be happy. Its just to say that I don’t really care one way or the other. Ten minutes from now I may never see you again and there is only so much in the way of commiseration that you and I will share during your meal. Also, its not just the waitstaff. Its the management also. Management will make the rounds at most restaurants to make sure everything is ok. Management doesn’t really care either, they just want their night to go smoothly and for there to be no complaints. The overwhelming vast majority of restaurants serve good food in the United States so it would be surprising if your meal was not good. Every once in a very great while I have eaten out and either not gotten good food or good service but those times are pretty rare and if the service or the food was not up to par I would probably still say that everything was fine.
