Why is it an abomination to wear socks with Sperrys?

"Abomination"? A little on the heavy side with that. Classic TopSiders are boat shoes ...essentially leather moccasins with a siped white rubber sole. Ms Collins gave an excellent rationale for not wearing socks when wearing TopSiders in nautical situations. In summer with shorts, yeah, sockless ...or very low cut or no-show socks are okay.However, that doesn't mean you *can't* wear them with socks in non-nautical situations  ...or in different seasons ...which I have seen done plenty of times. I attended college up in New England (back when the Earth was still cooling) ...the epicenter of the Preppy Movement. It's where TopSiders were invented and made back in ancient times. I saw, and I wore, socks with my TopSiders on many a cool fall and early winter day. Nothing weird or abnormal about it; lotsa folks, young and old, did it. You wore the socks so you could wear your Sperry's and not freeze your feet off. What kind of socks you wear are what goes best with your get up. For the outdoor look slightly thicker "hiking look" socks work well. For the khaki casual you could wear anything from argyles to subtle to bright colors and patterns. No, wearing socks with your TopSiders is definitely *not* an "abomination". Those that say it is don't know what they're talking about.

Why do Star Trek fans hate J.J.Abrams' universe reboot?

I feel that people often focus on the little things but are missing the bigger picture when it comes to these discussions.I was a huge ST:TNG fan in the 90s and grew up with it. I loved the JJ Abrams movies but they clearly weren't Star Trek for a simple reason: they weren't even in the same genre. Star Trek (at least from TNG on) was science fiction drama and the JJ movies were clearly science fantasy action, drawing from Star Wars as inspiration. The very basic reasons you watch the show was changed and that can disappoint anyone who wants to watch Star Trek for its Star Trekness.I loved the character-driven stories of Trek and how an entire episode could go by without a single phaser blast. If it was a plot-driven episode, it wasn't the least bit weird that the conflict could be some engineering or diplomacy issue and not something you could only solve by shooting an enemy. And most of the time there was some very easy to read but deeper philosophical question the episode was addressing.The Neu Trek series dispenses with most of that, because well, science fantasy action. Some of the geekier aspects of science fiction fandom was also thrown out, like following our basic understanding of physics. I’m not a physicist but even I was confused as to why you would need to work so hard to place a black hole in the middle of a planet to destroy it when you can just place it anywhere close by. I wasn't looking for those problems, they’re fairly basic stuff you pick up reading even pop science articles. But it was an action flick so I sat back and enjoyed it for what it was and it was great at what it wanted to do. For what it's worth, I think a lot of trek fans already disliked the last few pre-reboot movies exactly because they weren't very science fiction, and Star Trek isn't even considered “hard” science fiction by serious fans to begin with.Overall though, I feel like we need a ‘real’ Star Trek and I'd love to see it happen.

Helping tendency!One day my mother and our neighbor had went for shopping. While returning home, they saw an old man who looked mentally sick. She had felt sad for the old man. Then, they both had boarded the bus without giving much thought to him.Two days later, they both went to buy some vegetables from the market. My mother saw a wall poster saying “missing,” with an old man photo. To her surprise, it was the same guy who she had seen two days before. She didn't carry her mobile and neither did my neighbor. There weren't much shops with public telephones near the market. Since, it only takes 10 mins to reach our house from the market, she had decided to call the number after reaching home. She jotted down the number and started home.After starting, on the way, she was shocked to see the same guy on the road. He was only wearing a torn and an untidy shirt. He was half naked! She was scared to go near him as his penis was visibly out and she wasn't sure about his reaction if she had approached him, as he was mentally sick.She reached home and called the number at once. Someone picked. She said, “I saw the old man in the missing wall poster”. The person on the other side was overwhelmed with joy. My mother informed the location of the old man. Person in a hurry, cut the call and started to the location.After reaching the location, they had started the hunt for the old man but in vain. So, he called my mother again and she guided him to his exact location. When he spotted him, while still holding my mom's call, he shouted in joy, “Madame we found him, we found him!”.Later we came to know that the old man was a Ex-CBI officer. He fell mentally sick after his retirement and left the house without anyone's knowledge.They visited our house with sweets and paid their gratitude. It so happened that it was my mom's birthday and it turned out to be a very special one!Since then, whenever she sees a person in the missing column in new papers or posters, she scans the photo in her brain and memorizes the phone number!Image source- Google images
