10 Week Old Puppy Fell Hard On Her Head

My puppy hit his head HARD..?

I have a chihuahua, and he was on my basement stairs (which have to back to them) he was sitting on one of the top steps and fell back all the way down to the concrete floor!
he wimpered for a second then stopped, i picked him up and he seemed like he was in shock... his eyes were really wide... i was worried but then he seemed fine, he was walking, running around with my other puppy, i kept him up for awhile just incase he had a concusion, but finally fell asleep and today he seems fine..... should i still be worried? he fell from a very high distance right on his skull.... i swear that would of hurt a human.......

8 week old puppy fell and hit her head! Help!?

If she's acting totally normal the rest of tonight and tomorrow, I think she's okay. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, limping, more yelping, not eating, not drinking, hiding, not playing, the get her to a vet.

I am a vet tech, and last week we had a yorkie puppy come in for shots. The doc was holding her, talking to her owner, when the little dog leaped out of his arms! He reached down and caught her right before she hit the floor. I thought I was going to have a heart attack!!!! : ) she's fine.

All you can do is be as careful as you can. Some accidents are just unavoidable and part of life.

Help! My 8 week old puppy fell and hit her head!?

Please act as though your dog has concussed itself. Which means that you must observe and supervise for the next 24 hours. While you don't have to put her on bedrest, it would be wise to limit activity for the next 24. You will watch for symptoms like vertigo ( if your dog displays signs of loss of balance), nausea (if she is throwing up or heaving), lethargy (sleeping more than usual or difficult to rouse), tenderness about the head area. (if she winces or pulls away when you pet or touch her head).
Probably she is fine. My dog has banged his head so hard sometimes, I could hear it in another room. And it has never bothered him. But he is much bigger with a heavier skull than a Yorkie.
I am absolutely not trying to frighten you. You will probably see NOTHING. But if you do observe any of these signs in the next 24 hours, you should call the vet. Seeing a symptom may mean that there is some swelling or bruising inside the skull..something like shaken baby syndome..and you should take her to the vet.
Again...this is probably just some medical education for you...not a doom prophecy. just watch her, and take her in only if you see something like the above...good luck.

My 7 week old puppy hit her head on cement and she is really tired right now?

If your puppy was walking and tripped over her feet or something which caused her to hit her head on the concrete then it may be minor and you just need to watch her. Keep her awake for a few hours. If she does fall asleep gently wake her every 10-15 minutes. Don't scare her awake, just a gentle rub should do it. If she starts throwing up or can not walk then get to the Vet ASAP.

If you were holding her and she fell to the concrete from a distance of more than a foot then she needs to be seen by a Vet ASAP.

A 7 week old puppy should still be with her momma and siblings. you owe her the best care and a Vet is where you need to start.

My 8 week old pug puppy dropped from a two step hard wood floor at a run to get his toy..?

You are one of the most smartest of people I have met on this site, as most people would freak out and just post asking what to do when their dog/puppy has just fallen down....
at least you checked him out and is watching him

If they fall from a higher place and seems to just drop and land without rolling see how they walk around and look carefully at the leg movements. If there is any strange slight limping wait and see for a couple hours later. If it gets worse or it's still there then call your vet and ask them. If they want to see the dog then... well take the dog to them.

I have a 2lb yorkie and when she was a puppy (when she was only 1 lb) we slept with her on a very high (maybe 3 or 4ish ft off the ground) bed and the next morning we found her walking around hyperactively on the ground completely fine.

So, them falling a couple times is alright but it's good to watch them carefully as they walk around after the fall just in case.

My puppy hit her head?!?

Very useful answers~^^
I'm so happy and relieved that so many people helped in such short time!~^^

Thank You all!!!~\(^-^)/

(To Heart: thanks for your answer, but the word did come from my vet so u can't doubt that, if she's not healthy I think I wouldn't take her home until the vet is 100% sure she is healthy~=0=" And... It was my vet who mentioned that this breed is stubborn~^^" I guess all sogs have different personalities~xD but humans are different than dogs... Especially a puppy and this is my first puppy so I'm especially worried about everything that happens to her)

Puppies are at once fragile and tough. If she's not limping or exhibiting any kind of odd behavior holding her head or tails or anything like that she is probably okay but if anything seems amiss or if she feels sore you must take her to a vet at once. You also don't say what kind of a fall this was and was it onto a hard surface or carpet or what the circumstances of the fall were.

What breed is the puppy? What EXACTLY do you do with this animal during the day, each day?Why do YOU think the puppy is behaving this way?How is popping a cover on, going to stop the reason that caused the behaviour in the first place?Chances are that this is a high energy breed of dog. The puppy is bored stiff, lonely and has very little stimulation. The puppy is being kept in that cage for way too long.Puppies should be spending about an hour or two in the pen at a time. Three hours maximum at a time if the puppy has had exercise and is very tired. Up to 6 - 7 hours at night when you sleep. It sounds to me like you're doing the equivalent of shaking a bottle of champagne and then feeling surprised the cork flies off. Your puppy is bored and frustrated. He's at a critical time of his life. He should be meeting people who allow him to sniff them first, and who don't screech all over him. Many dogs develop anxious behaviour from people overwhelming them. Puppy should be being taken out of that pen every hour or so, if you want him to be house-trained. He should have cuddle time, toilet time, play time, walk time…tiny walks around the garden and of course, sleep time.Instead of buying a cover, start being a decent dog owner. You're already teaching him to view his pen as a bad place. They should value their pens and view them as safe, happy places. Not a prison or place they hate.If you install a cover, but still remain ignorant about how to raise a puppy, you'll soon have a delinquent on your hands. He'll start running off on walks, ignoring everything you say and just do his own thing. He'll also run away when it's time to go into the pen. Forcing him in there will make him more stressed and unhappy. He'll eventually use his teeth on the bars and try to bite his way out.Hurry up and educate yourself. Dogs almost never do things 'wrong'. They just behave as per how they are taught and how they feel. He's an animal, with a real, working brain. He has emotions and real needs. He's not an ornament.

Pomeranian puppy fell off the couch?

Do not waste your time and money by bringing him to the vet! Dogs are like children, they are strong enough to survive bumps and falls...

He may be squinting for a variety of reasons that could be completely unrelated to his fall. Your best action is to always pick up the injured animal, give it time to stop crying/whining and then rub/squeeze the various areas the body to see if you get a painful response.

Dropped my puppy...hit its head?

I was taking my 3 month old Italian Greyhound/Rat Terrier puppy outside when he began squirming and jumped out of my arms. He hit his head on the concrete. I'm sure of it. He yelped twice and then ran to me. I held him close for a few minutes until his heart stopped beating so fast and then set him down. He started running around frantically sniffing things which he normally wouldn't do. I was concerned and called a few vets and they all said not to bring him in yet. To watch him closely for a few hours. There is no blood in his ears. I don't see a knot. When i brought him inside he whined for the treat that he would usually get after going potty which i thought was a good sign. He seems active and is playing with his toys. However, one odd behavior was that he chased his tail and fell down. He has never chased his tail before without catching it. That worried me a little. His eyes look ok, i think. I feel horrible and I'm terrified that he may have a concussion or go into a seizure, which one vet mentioned as a possibility. Are there any other things that i might watch for as signs that he may not be ok?
