If you start to lose your mucus plug does that mean labour is on the way and does it have to have blood in it?

Losing your mucous plug does not mean labor is imminent. It could be days or even weeks yet (you didn't mention when you're due).

And there may or may not be a little bit of blood streaks in it, that doesn't mean anything either. The "bloody show" that people talk about is NOT the same as your mucous plug, and it usually shows up later in active labor, as you near 10cm, when the cervix's blood vessels are breaking from the dilation.
