14 Year Old With Heart Attack Symptoms

Can a 16 year old have a heart attack?

This question looks straight out of a MCQ paper for cardiology PG exam.Q. Causes of myocardial infarction (Heart attack) in a 16 year old boya. ALCAPAb. Familial Hypercholesterolemiac. Cocaine addictiond. Tackotsubo syndromee. All of the above - Yes! you have guessed it right.ALCAPA is a rare, by-birth disease where the Abnormal Left Coronary Artery takes origin from the Pulmonary Artery. The pulmonary artery carry blue deoxygenated blood and has low perfusion pressure, making them prone to heart attack at early age.ALCAPA supplying the blue area on the right side diagram.Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH)Rare genetic variation where bad cholesterol (LDL) is sky high; sometimes more than 500mg% making them highly prone for childhood heart attack.Runs in families.Cocaine causes intense narrowing of coronary arteries (coronary Spasm).Tackotsubo syndrome is a disease caused by intense mental stress where the coronary arteries narrow under the influence of a tsunami of catecholamine (stress hormone). Normally affects adults (more in females). Recently we had a young boy who came in with ‘tackotsubo’ because his parents forced him to change school. The disease gets its unusual name from a Japanese device that’s used by fishermen to catch small octopus. The octopus enters through the narrow neck and gets caught inside. The damaged left ventricle (pumping chamber of the Heart) looks like a tackotsubo in ‘stress cardiomyopathy’Left - Angiogram of Left Venrticle; Right - Octopus catching device.A Technical Tip For Doctor Quorans.Recently my resident doctor rushed in to show me this ECG of a young boy. The ECG shows a massive heart attack. Our resident doctors tension subsided when I pointed out the copy icon (circled at left top) of the ECG. The copy mark on top indicates that the machine is copying the last recorded ECG from memory. The technician inadvertently pressed the copy key to record the last patients ECG (not this boy’s) and created a transient panic. So this was just a copy of the previous patient’s ECG with myocardial infarction (heart attack).Problem is, the copy icon is too small unless you know about it.Top row first button is copy icon.Repeat ECG was normal. The boy went home, the resident to the cafeteria.

Can a 14 year old have a heart attack?

Dear sweet victoria!
I register with you sweetie as I use to be very concerned as a teen due to an array of symptoms that turned out to be nothing but an Iron deficiancy. The internet can be a scary doctor, as you tye in your symptoms and the worst comes up. It is EXTREMELY rare for anyone your age to have a heart attack that was not born with issues with their hearts. Your issues may be more anxiety related over something much smaller. Please speak to your parents or gaurdians about needing a check up dues to headaches dizziness and chest palapatations (which occur with many aliments) and when there talk to yourdoctoor about your concerns. Trust me they will make you feel better. & ifsomething is going on they can get you the proper medical care, which is so advanced Im sure they will keep you safe.
I hope (and believe) you will be okay. Try not to think about it too much ( I know its so hard when those symptoms pop up) BTW when you get palapataions hold your breath and push it down hard in your lungs for just a few seconds it resets your heart beat! I learned that in the hospital when I had an allergic reaction to a vaccine and it kept happening because it took a very long time to get out of my system.
Good luck and be logical as possible dont think fearful thoughts instead use logic! I had to learn this believe it or not!

Can a 14 year old have a heart attack?

I'm assuming you have ADHD based on the Focalin medication and that you also suffer from anxiety or depression based on the Zoloft.

Have you had an EKG? An EKG is a test that uses stickers that they place in certain areas of your body including your chest to get a reading of how your heart is beating.

I don't want to scare you but it is now recommended that any kid who has ADHD who is going to start medication for ADHD have an EKG before taking such medication.

I recommend getting this evaluated from your local doctor.

NOTE: It is HIGHLY unlikely you are having a heart attack. You might be suffering from anxiety or having a panic attack. Calm down and if this continues to happen please see a doctor.

NOTE TO RECENT COMMENT: Okay. Even though you are likely suffering from a panic attack which is not life-threatening, it is in your best interest for you to have an EKG at some point to rule out heart problems. Have your mom contact your doctor about having one done.

Can a 14 year old boy have a heart attack?

I've never had heart problems (at least to my knowledge). And I had just gotten done eating out w/ my mom. All the sudden I got a stomach pain (so I thought) and my heart felt like it was having trouble beating (but it was beating much faster then normal). It was like a discomforting heavy pain. My heart felt pressured. I was experiencing many short rapid breaths and I felt really nervous like I had anxiety. I also felt weak and I didn't realize what part of my body hurt or better yet what part of my body was what till I was in the car and my stomach was fine but my heart was not. Also the area between my shoulders and neck got swollen. Like a discomforting motion in the back of my arm. More so on my right side. I was having difficulty breathing talking and paying attention. These "feelings or pains" lasted around 20-40 minutes (wasn't paying attention to time). They've stopped now but I'm really worried. This didn't feel normal. It felt a little bit like heart burn at first but I know it wasn't because I've had heart burn before. Was this a heart attack? If not what was it? Was it normal? Should I see a doctor? Thank you to all answers.

Can a 16-year-old girl have a heart attack?

Only if you have some very rare congenital or inherited disease e.g. a coronary artery not originating from the Aorta containing lots of oxygen, but from the Coronary sinus which contains a lot less oxygen since it is venous blood.Anomalous origin of the right coronary artery from the left coronary  sinus by CMR with an inter-arterial, potentially dangerous course because by being located between two arteries it can be pinched off during exertion.Alternately, someone with a serious Familial hypercholesterolemia causing early serious atherosclerosis of the coronary.  But these young people would have a lot of other signs and symptoms of this disease e.g. Xanthoma on the skin and very often around the tendons which are unmistakable so in first world countries would have had had treatment to prevent just that.

Sugar is not good for the heart.

It sounds like you are sensitive to what you eat and you seem like you are overweight in addition to not exercising. So, you could be setting yourself up for a heart attack.

Keep complaining to your parents, just keep mentioning the symptoms you are having. Also, try to eat a healthy diet, drink only water (drink 1-2 cups then drink again after you go pee)
Water is a good cure all for just about anything.

Cayenne pepper has been known to stop a heart attack. Just don't take it on an empty stomach. You might get a stomach ache, but that would be better than a heart attack.

Avoid eating foods with saturated fat and cholesterol like cheese, milk, beef, chicken, pork, eggs. And avoid transfats in pastries, chips, and crackers. Eat a heart healthy diet of vegetables, fresh fruit, beans, and whole grains. Here is a healthy link for teenagers and a diet to lose weight and be healthiest.

Start exercising but start out slow like 5 minutes a day for a week - try a walk, then the next week add another 5 minutes and so on, eventually you can pick up the speed and do it longer. Just don't do too much exercise until you are eating better as it can make things go in your arteries and clog your heart for a heart attack.

Please take care of yourself. Start praying too. Check out http://mormon.org. I hope things get better for you fast, hang in there :)
