1996 Range Rover Help

Are Range Rovers Reliable?

Land Rovers are expensive to repair! Land Rover/Range Rover is the real winner on living in the shop. These things break down all the time, will leave you stranded and drain your wallet to repair.

There are stats on the web that show the reliability of all car makers....Range Rover/Land Rover is always the worse.

If you like to spend money yet never drive...buy a Land Rover.

If you like to drive and not spend money...buy a Lexus/Toyota.

Get a 1994-99 Toyota Land Cruiser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Land Rover? Or Range Rover?

I've been doing some research on buying a 2003/2004 Land Rover Discovery Or a 2003/2004 Range Rover HSE. I've been looking at the reviews for both cars and it seems like the Range Rover is the one that has the most problems! And the Discovery would be the car to get. I wanted to get some opinions on what you think about both vehicles and if you have any suggestions on other good SUVS! I'm on a $15,000 budget! Thanks!

Can you hot wire a Range Rover?

The truth is most people have no more idea how to hotwire a car than you do, so you could probably get away with just saying something like, "The character broke open the steering column with some tool, removed such and such wires from the ignition switch, touched them together and with a spark the engine started running" or some similar description and have it be believable enough to most readers. It's not nearly that simple to hotwire a newer car in real life, not with modern cars having all sorts of different theft deterrent systems and devices built into their ignition systems to prevent such a thing, but if someone is reading a work of fiction in the first place they've already agreed to suspending reality anyway, haven't they? Good luck with your book.

1996 Range Rover Land rover fuel pump?

I know that you can drop the tank, but I have noticed alot of the rover owners cutting a hole and hinging it. This would give you 100% access and save alot of time if you had to replace it again. Second, the vehicle runs after you DIRECTLY inject gas to the injectors which really narrows the why it aint starting scenario down a bit to three things, inertia switch, relay or fuel pump. All of the fuses tested out great.

What is the difference between a Range Rover and a Land Rover?

The technical answer is that Land Rover is the company and Range Rover is a sub brand. But I think there is a difference beyond this and that we all intuitively understand this. The Range Rover is a very luxurious and very capable vehicle for city and suburban road driving. On roads. It’s a statement of wealth and position. It’s also a vehicle that can function as a limo without looking like a limo or traditional high status vehicle. It drives well, provides driver visibility and provides a lot of safety in it’s design and 4 wheel drive. You don’t really see the Range Rover crossing deserts or climbing mountains. It can but you don’t see it in the ads because it is positioned as a luxury urban vehicle. The Land Rover is the vehicle that is more practical while still sharing much of the luxury and status of the Range Rover. You expect to see in on the sand at the beach or on top of the mountain. It can haul stuff and hold seven passengers. The Land Rover LR4/Discovery might be driven with dust and dirt on the sheet metal. When the magazines look at off road vehicles, they review the Land Rover and not the Range Rover. The Land Rover company has done a great job in creating two distinct images for essentially the same vehicle. It’s not a matter of cost. When I bought my Land Rover LR4 HSE LUX, it was more expensive than some traditional Range Rovers and wildly more expensive than the Range Rover Evoque. It’s branding and positioning.I currently own an LR4 and use it as a practical family vehicle and frequently for driving on the beach. When I was working in the city in the 90’s, I loved my Range Rover SWB. Terrific city vehicle, except that it had a hard time holding more than 2 sets of golf clubs.

Why doesn't the Stepper Motor Work at Start Up ? (Rover 620ti - 1996)?

I've got a Rover 620ti (1996) . Everything's normal when the engine is warm, but it stalls when it's cold - even in a summer day..-

I had the throttle cleaned, all the filters and spark plugs etc. are new.. And also I have replaced the Coolant Sensor but nothing changed... Besides, all the sensors seem to be normal (no fault codes) when diagnosed with testbook..

Many people said that the Stepper Motor could've been stuck or dead.. But when I reset it I hear that it clicks and re-adjusts itself..Also its pin (that's supposed to push the butterfly and open the throttle at start up) is not stuck, it can move freely up and down... But it doesn't push the butterfly just at start up and that's the problem...

The main reason that makes it not to push the butterfly at start up may be a faulty sensor misleading the ECU and causing it think that the engine is not cold...

Is it possible that a sensor regarding engine/air temperature seem to be normal on testbook though it is broken?

Why buy a land rover or a range rover?

Personally, I would advise against buying a Range Rover as over the last few years, RR has had a plague of problems with air suspension, poor quality fit, air leaks and the like. If you find a vehicle that you really like, though, please run a CarFax on it, then take it to a GOOD independent auto repair place as well as maybe an independent Rover shop to have them do a complete and thorough inspection of the vehicle from top to bottom. Also, do a good search of the vehicle online thru automotive sites like Edmunds or some of the others to get more opinions. If you are going to be spending more than $30k for a used vehicle, it's best to get all the info you can on that vehicle before you take possession. This could at least give you some peace of mind. If the user or the dealer refuses to let you take it to " your " mechanic, walk away from it.

Where is the fuse box located for a 1990 Land Rover Range Rover County?

1996 land rover range rover how many quarts of oil does it take?

Do you have one of the last "classic" range rovers? or do you have a second gen one? the last of the first gen and the start of production for the second overlap by a few years.

Between them there are 7 physically different engines and over 10 different setups.

I need to know what engine you have!

Generally, what you do is you put in oil (10w40 or similar) until the reading on the dipstick is between min and max...

Buy two 5L containers, that should cover an oil and filter change on the biggest engine type.
