1year Old Not Eating But Being Sick With Loose Stool And Very Unhappy

1 year old not gaining weight and blood in stool?

I am only responding because I want to see others' answers as well. My son has had food intolerances with blood in his stools, and falling percentiles since he was 4 months old. I was breastfeeding so I dropped nearly everything out of my diet, and still didn't seem to be able to find out what it was. I took out milk(all products containing any), soy, egg, nuts, beef, pork, corn, berries, sesame. I took these out because when I had added them back in, it seemed there were issues. But even with all these foods out of our diet, he still had bloody stools sometimes (I NEVER ate out, and always was VERY picky about what I ate...if I didn't know what was in it, I didn't eat it, so it wasn't an accidental consumption of these things). My doctor was worried about my son's weight, and was trying to make me move to formula. I had heard others who didn't have 100% success with formula (as you state), so I didn't. We never did figure out what was causing all the issues. My son is still in the 10th percentile. He will be one on Friday, but has seemingly "outgrown" the issues since we haven't had any blood since February. Just in the last few weeks, I have read that an iron deficiency can be the cause of blood in stool of infants/toddlers. Has anyone else heard this? My husband and I would like to have another child, but hear that usually when you ahve one with these issues, the next one will have them too. I want better and more clear answers as to what is causing these things.
I hope, as you do, to find someone who has been there and figured it out.
I wish you luck, and will pray that you find the answers to what is going on VERY soon! It's so frustrating, and impossible not to worry. I have shed many tears for my son, and feel your pain. Best of luck at the dr next week. I hope someone here has some answers for you. Sorry I can't be of more help! Know though, that you are not alone!

My cat's very sick, not eating, sleeping a lot... any ideas?

She's only about 5 or 6 years old. She was vomiting bile for a few days and drinking a lot before we took her to the vet. She had lost about three or four pounds. Bloodwork showed nothing wrong, her blood sugar was okay (thought it might be diabetes). She had a lump but the vet said it wasn't a tumor, so he sent her home.

Now, almost a month later, she still spends 90% of the day sleeping/hiding. She hasn't gained any weight (she weighs about 7 lbs. now and looks terribly emaciated). She has trouble chewing and swallowing (vet says probably her teeth are loose from vomiting) so she doesn't eat much, but still drinks a lot when she comes out of hiding. We try to supplement her diet by assist-feeding her vitamin/fat paste recommended by the vet.

The vet said he can't do anything else now,so don't say "bring her back"

I don't know what I'm asking, I'm just very scared and looking for people whose cat has dealt with something similar and has pulled through, and what you did to help

Is it normal for a 2 year old to get loose watery stools?

It is not unheard of for children getting teeth to have diarrhea. As long as he is not sick and getting enough fluids otherwise, don't give him anything. If anything, feed him things like bananas, rice, apples/applesauce, and breads in higher amounts. Cut out the dairy as much as you can, or at least make sure he's eating live culture yogurt to replace the bacteria he is losing in the process. He has tummy rumbles because he has lost the bacteria that help digest the dairy products- and the result is lots of gas. Cut out all the dairy you can, at least until the diarrhea is under control. You can also buy a product called Lactaid which can be added to the milk before he drinks it. It contains the bateria needed to digest the milk, called LactoBacillus. Just ask at the pharmacy for that or a similar product. Usually for kids, it comes in drops- for adults you can get tablets. For his little bum, vitamin E oil is also a good choice, and not as hard to clean off. The diarrhea usually lasts until the teeth break through, so anything you can get him to chomp on to hasten that along is great. My kids loved stale cherry licorice- with the ridges. That will sometimes turn things bright red- so just be prepared for red diapers and red poo.

My 14-year-old indoor cat is losing weight. What can I do or feed him to help put on more weight?

If your cat is losing weight despite normal appetite then this is an indication that something else is going on that warrants a visit to the veterinarian for investigation. If your cat is losing weight due to a lack of appetite then it needs to be determined what is causing your cat to have a lack of appetite which could have many explanations such as dental problems, gastrointestinal upset. If a cat is nauseous, will not want to eat (just like when you have the flu or are nauseous and you can’t eat). I don’t want to scare you but to be realistic, losing weight despite normal appetite is one of the common symptoms of cancer. So although you need to ensure your cat eats and doesn’t lose your more weight, it is imperative for your cat to be seen by a veterinarian to find out why your cat is losing weight. Too many people overlook the warning signs until their cat gets sicker and sicker and then they find out too late their cat has cancer and it’s too advanced. So always take weight loss in a cat seriously, it could be something simple like thyroid problem, allergy to food or the food recipe changed and the cat doesn’t like it, pancreatic insufficiency, pancreatitis or it could be a more serious disease including feline cancer. 1 year old with loose bowel movements...?

My daughter just turn a year old and has been having very loose bowel movements for several weeks now. It started while she had a bad stomach bug for over a week. She stop throwing up and has been happy and playing for over 3 weeks now, but still loose stool. I don't know how to get it to stop! She is not eating as many solids now as she use to prior to her illness When we ask her doctor they keep stressing breads, toast, apple sauce, white pastas, and bananas. Well out of that list she only eats the toast. Others have suggest mac and cheese, which she loves, but some say that will make it worse. We are having problems with daycare (they are great all things considered) but they can't have her there while she is constantly leaking out of her diapers (obviously not sanitary) we completely understand that, but my husband and I can't take off any more work and we have no family in town. How do I get this to stop??????????? Am I nursing her too much? I would say she is nursed or has a bottle 4 - 5 times a day total. Any thoughts??????????? Please help! Thanks!

My 1 year old boston terrier has had diarrhea for 2 days, is still eating, drinking, but some blood in stool. ?

Diarrhea can have many causes in dogs. Two common causes are dietary indescretion (eating something irritating to the intestine) and intestinal parasites (aka worms). If your dog has had diarrhea for several days, the blood is probably from irritation to the colon and rectum. Ideally, your dog should be seen by a veterinarian and have a fecal sample checked for intestinal parasites. This is especially important if your dog is having frequent, watery stools, because your dog could become dehydrated as well. If you know your dog ate something other than her normal dog food in the few days before the diarrhea started, you could offer a bland diet for a few days and see if the diarrhea resolves. A bland diet (plain white rice and low-fat cottage cheese or rice and unseasoned turkey) is very easy to digest and gives the intestines a chance to heal. Once the diarrhea resolves, you can slowly re-introduce your dog's normal dog food by mixing small amounts with the bland diet and gradually increasing the amount of dog food over 5-7 days. If the diarrhea returns, then definitely a veterinarian checkup.

What could cause these syptoms in a 1 year old?

At this point, I wouldn't be very concerned, it sound like a virus that's affecting his bowels. There is however a bacteria called shigella that affects the digestive system. It can cause vomiting, diaherra, fever, etc. It can cause no symptoms or be severe. You're typically sick longer with it and can last 2-3 weeks. usually your own immune system takes care of it, but sometimes it requires antibiotics. Your local health department will probably test his stool for it free if you take them a sample.
You should give him gas drop to help him out. All that gas is probably very uncomfortable. You should also research his previous symptoms and see if there's anything that is followed up with his symptoms now. I always double check with my childrens doctors because he's familiar with what illnesses are going around. You can always call the health department to see what illnesses are going around also. They'll be able to tell you if there's something serious w/his symptoms. Good luck, hope he feels better.

How can I find out why my dog is suddenly not eating her food all at once?

I always say that a visit to the dog's veterinarian is good.  If nothing else, if your dog becomes really ill, his charts will show things that have happened over time. How long did it take your dog to eat before this new behavior began ?  Did he gobble his food prior to this new behavior, or did he slowly chew, walk away, come back and eat at a slow pace?  It there is an extreme difference in the style of eating, you should see your veterinarian.  Are you feeding your dog treats, or table food?  Is there any chance someone in the neighborhood is giving him snacks.  Could he be eating from the trash cans, inside or out.  Is he eating the kitty food ?  If you can say no to these questions, then again, SEE you vet.It could be that he has gotten a taste of table food, or some other food and now would rather eat, or is holding out for the better food.  When none appears, he eats his same old/same old.Another reason to visit your vet would be to keep tabs on his weight.  If you are seeing a vet, each time you go, they weigh the dog and write it on the dog's chart.  This is another weight to look for the reason his eating pattern has changed. And, of course, it could be that he has something caught in his throat and he can only eat a small amount at a time.  Think about his energy and playfulness.  Is he more lethargic or the same goofy little puppy.  The bottom line is that your puppy, and one year is a puppy, has changed his eating habits and that is a good reason to see your veterinarian.  When you go, have the general answers to the kind of questions that I asked and the visit will not take as long.Enjoy your wonderful puppy.

Dog lethargic and vomiting?

I have a one year old Bichon Frise. She is, usually, the most active and playful dog that I have ever seen but lately (for about a day) she has been sick. I have chalked it up to having eaten something bad because my family sneaks her table scraps under the table and she goes through the garbage.

Just when I start to worry, she perks up. And just when I am about confident that it was, indeed, something she ate, she goes back to being sick and lethargic. What do I do? Is it time to see a vet?

Can I give my 4 year old male cat coke syrup for an upset stomach & loose stools?

There are NO behavioral changes in him. He bounces around like nothing is wrong. I appreciate the answers, but no one is addressing WHY no coke syrup. Does anyone know? Since I removed his solid food last night, there has been no loose stool and/or no more vomiting. He IS drinking his water. Some of you say he is "very sick". What indicates that? He can't just have an upset stomach or something? Vet's are closed today.............Ugh! He'll go tomorrow if this continues, but am looking for answers now........ Thank you!
