2001 Honda Odyssey Check Engine Light

What causes the check engine light to come on in a 2002 Honda Accord?

What causes the check engine light to come on in a 2002 Honda Accord? This question reminds me of an interesting chapter in automotive history. The 2002 Honda Accord was designed at a time when Honda was undergoing corporate restructuring that limited budgets in nearly every department. One corner that had to be cut was the costly factory retooling needed to manufacture new and unique parts for individual models. The Accord designers wanted a Blinker Fluid Alert Module “BFAM” to be included in the redesign of the Accord’s gauge cluster, but the higher-ups who controlled the budget realized that doing so would add about $13.37 to the cost of each vehicle, an enormous amount when multiplied by the projected production volume. So the engineers on the Accord project came up with a clever workaround that utilized Check Engine Light Modules (“CELM”s) that were already being produced and used in other Honda models like the Odyssey, Prelude, and Civic. The savings were immense. This and several similar decisions by the same design group are credited with saving Honda from financial collapse in the early 2000s. However, it has resulted in a quirk for which the 2002 model year has become famous: If the check engine light illuminates, it actually has nothing to do with an engine fault; it indicates that your blinker fluid reservoir is low and you should take your Accord to the nearest Honda certified service center to have the reservoir inspected for leaking or damage. But first, I would suggest connecting an OBD scanner to the OBD port and see what DTC codes are showing, and then revise your question to include the codes. If this doesn’t make sense to you, maybe you could ask a handy friend or a mechanic to help you with it.

How do you reset the check engine light on a Honda Accord?

Turn the ignition key to the power accessory  position. This will illuminate all the lights on the instrument panel  without the engine running. Continue to hold down the select/reset button until the maintenance required light goes out. On some year models, the light may blink once before going out.

I got a 2001 honda s2000 po401 check engine light help ??~?~?

P0401 = Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected

Check your EGR valve and make sure it's not clogged or failed and any lines are not pinched or disconnected.

Honda odyssey check engine light reset?

The maintenance light can be reset using the following procedure

put the key in the ignition but do not turn it on.
with one hand push in the button on the speedometer for the Trip/Reset and hold it in. continue holding it in as you use your other hand to turn the key on. you do not need to start the engine, just turn it until the dash lights come on.

continue holding the trip/reset button in and watch the maintenance required light. It should go out after about 15 seconds. when it goes out you can turn the ignition key off then release the trip/reset button. That will reset the maintenance required light.

as for the check engine light, you'll need to fix the reason it came on before you can reset it. otherwise it will come back on. there are about 160 reasons why that light can come on. if you take the car to any Autozone parts store or AAMCO transmission shop they will pull the code for free and tell you why the light is on for no charge. you can then decide if you just want the code cleared or if you want to go forward with repairs.

2005 Honda CR-V: check engine light & VSA lights on?

Krazy is right. If the oil changes have been neglected, then the timing chain can stretch causing an Out of phase code. I had a TSX which has the same engine pop this code with under 100,000 miles on it. Fixing it would require a new chain and tensioner.

As far as the VSA light, that could be set due to an engine malfunction. Sometimes the code for the VSA will come back as "Engine malfunction"

Diagnose my Honda Odyssey. 3 misfires, TCS light, Engine light and ISI on.?

The fuel injector or injectors for sure, its 13 years old and I doubt that they have been serviced / cleaned as needed.

2007 Honda CRV gas gauge registers I have more gas than I do. Has anyone experienced this? Also VSA and check engine light on.?

I m a female with basic mechanic knowledge.
I have a 2007 Honda CRV 93k miles
3/5/16 vehicle in for a standard oil change. Mechanic said everything good.
3/12/16 check engine, VSA, & warning light on when cranked. The lights had not been on beginning of day.
3/13/16 checked transmission fluid. Put a quart of the proper fluid in, light went off
3/15/16 vehicle in to have the transmission fluid replaced. Mechanic said everything else was fine
3/18/16 evening check engine light, VSA,TPSM and warning light on. TPSM, warning and VSA light come on and go off, the engine light stays on. correct air pressure in the tires.
3/19/16 - car registerd 3/4 tank of gas, est 193 miles. filled up on the the 15th, the gauge was accurate. Had tire pressure checked and added a little to rear tires, got gauge now reads full tank eat 297 miles. TPMS light on.
**also, last 2 weeks or month, not exactly sure, when I crank vehicle, cranks right up no delay or problem starting, it feels like the engine is jumping once it s started, feel it in the floorboard and in steering wheel. not stalling or hesitating to crank or move. initial crank feels like something under the hood Is vibrating or jumping for a moment.
What is happening to my car? Lol It s making gas now lol
I don t want to blame the mechanic it could be bad luck and timing, my BF does a lot of business with him, has never had a issue Does anyone know what could be wrong ? Maybe a tune up is needed? Thank you : )

How to change engine coolant in Honda Odyssey 2001?

the Odyssey uses long life coolant so be sure to use that when you replace it. Buy the pre-mix 50/50 replacement coolant. you can't replace the long-life coolant with the cheaper ethyl-glycol type. If that's your intention, you're better off not changing the coolant.

as for replacing it, there will be a 'petcock' at the bottom of the radiator that looks like a "T" with a tube in the center coming out of one of the sides. the "T" part turns to the left and the coolant will drain out of the tube in the center. Take the radiator cap off to let air into the radiator as the coolant comes out.

Coolant is hazardous waste so you need to capture it and turn it in at a recycling center. most coolants are toxic to animals so keep the dog away.

once you drain the coolant refill the radiator then put the cap on. remove the coolant overflow jug at the end of the rubber hose that is attached to the radiator filler neck. You'll need to hold the overflow jug up so that the level of the coolant in the overflow jug is above the height of the dashboard inside the car.
then run the engine and wait for the thermostat to open. the level of fluid in the radiator will drop and the reservoir will drain down. when the level in the coolant reservoir has stabilized, let the engine run until the cooling fan comes on. If you skip this step, you'll have air trapped in the cooling system that can cause you to have 'no heat' or for the engine to overheat.

unless the coolant is contaminated by oil or such, I would really suggest you have the coolant tested and see if it really needs to be replaced. If so, do it right or pay someone to do it for you.

hope that helps

Why does my check engine light come on after getting gas?

As many have mentioned, it's not simple to answer without more information. There are a number of emmisions fault codes that can occur when fueling for a variety of reasons. Heres a few-Various leak codes. The fuel tank isn't just a can with a pipe in from the filler neck and a pipe out to the fuel line to the motor. There is also also ventilation system that corrects for tank pressure changes allowing air to enter when needed while keeping fuel vapor from escaping, and can pull that fuel vapor into the intake system of the engine. The most common leak issue is a loose or misplaced filler cap that causes a major leak code. Next is a failed seal on the fuel filler cap causing a minor lack code. After that you have the charcoal canister shutoff valve sticking open due to a mechanical failure or due to debris from the charcoal canister caused by impact, consistent over filling, or age. Next would be the purge valve sticking open or closed. Finally hard system leaks such as a cracked hose or seal at the level sensor assembly.Overfilling can affect the charcoal canister by degrading the charcoal filter and causing the valve to stick. This system was only designed for vapor and not liquid fuel.As the fuel tank is semi flexible, the weight of the fuel will normally distort the tank and allow for some leaks due to dried or failed seals to be fuel level dependent. Finally there are the weird ones… found a low-jack transmitter installation gone awry. The installer screwed the mount through the floor under the seat into the fuel tank. Once he realized fuel was leaking on the ground he pulled the screw out, out some sealant on it and screwed it back in the hole. The customer only got a minor leak code when they had a full tank and the weight pulled the tank down off the screw.Found couple plastic tanks cracked at a seam. Also found issues due to distortion and swelling of the plastic tank from E85 and MTBE. There were a few metal tanks with braised hose junctions that separated. One tank actually collapsed and crushed due to a stuck shutoff valve and a bad sensor.Good luck.
