16" Mustang tires to new mustang help!?

I have a 2001 mustang and recently bought a 2007 because the 2001 is getting old. Both have 16" tires and rims. The old one has brand new tires and the new one has bald back tires so I was wanting to switch them. The old tires are 225/55 r16 and the new tires are 215/65 r16. Could the old tires fit on the new rims? Thank you in advance.

Keep in mind being that yours is a V6 your rear axle is a bit narrower so your backspacing requirements are different from that of a GT or Cobra.

No I don't think so. Why would you want to? It would look stupid. People would be laughing at you not with you.

Can i replace 225/55/r16 with 225/60/R16 on a 2001 ford mustang base model?

It will throw your speedometer off, and it may rub.

Why are all Mustangs rear-wheel drive?

Because the guys who built the Mustang have chosen to make it rear-wheel drive. There's nothing more to it, really. A design choice. Like BMW chose to make the majority of it's cars also rear-wheel drive (recently there's more all-wheel drives coming from BMW). Or just like VW chose to make the majority of it's cars front-wheel drive, etc..It's true that a lot of sports cars are rear-wheel drive. Mustang, Corvete, Viper, BMW, etc. . This may be because the handling is better in cars where only the rear wheels drive the car, so that the traction on the rear wheels is used to move the car forward (occasionally backwards ). While the whole traction on the front wheels goes into handling the car. Meaning the front wheels(friction) only need to care about how to keep the car on the road/track and make it take curves fast and safe. That's  why (almost)all race cars are rear-wheel drive. Think Formula, GT, Le Mans, etc. . Also Dragrace and Nascar but for those see Tim Hofstetter's answer for a reason.Note that I was taking a guess here because I don't know why exactly they chose to do so or in what this decision was based.NOTE. There's also race cars like those that compete in Really races that are 4wd but the thing is that in Really races the track is mostly not asphalt/concrete. Usually the tracks are asphalt mixed with mud or mud and snow, etc. .And there are also sports cars like the big ones. Ferrari(FF), Lamborghini, some versions of Porsche, etc. that are awd. All of these models made in the last couple of years have the power divided asymmetrically, always in favour of the rear wheels. Some even argue that these cars are just sophisticated 2 wheel-drives because, in the case  of automated awd, not all of the four wheels are driven at the same time. The front wheels are engaged only in certain cases. What all of these cars have in common is the placement of the engine in the 'back' (actually it's in the middle ) of the car.
