2002 Chevy Tahoe 1995 Ford Lightning

Ford lightning stock 1/4 times?

I have a friend of mine that is crazy into Lightnings. His truck has run a 10:99@126mph 1/4 mile. Now that said, he has about 60,000 dollars in motor, transmission, rear-end, suspension, nitrous, etc. I can tell you he was running 12's with a different pulley on the supercharger, chip, and cold air induction. Awesome trucks

What year was the last year that Ford made the Lightning?

2004. They came in sonic blue, red, white, dark shadow grey, silver, and black. Rated at 385 hp to the crank. Really put down about 365 on dyno to rear wheels. I personally drive a sonic blue 04 and love every minute I'm in it.

Is a chevy Tahoe a good car?

I feel it is a good truck. If you have sufficient driving experience of driving a truck vs a car that is also a question. The suspension and ride are obviously stiff and bouncy, but are very correct for a truck vs a car. What makes this a good vehicle is that the Chevy 350 engine, or 5.7 Liter, has been around for 50 years, and is well known design. It has been continuously been improved upon. After market parts are plentiful and any shade tree mechanic knows how to work on this engine. Also, being in a rear wheel drive layout, it makes the engine very easy to service, as opposed to a sideways engine in a FWD car.The transmission is also heavy duty, being the GM 4L60E, which is a very high torque transmission. The sheer size and mass also helps you in an accident, because size and mass hurt gas mileage, but are your friend if you are in an accident. Size wins in the game of momentum transfer. If your budget is $40k, and you are buying brand new,vs used, and you want a truck, not a car, this is a winner.

Service engine soon light?

For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/av379

The service engine light could be due to a variety of things - generally not critical things either. The check engine light is a bigger problem. I've seen the service engine light come on over a blown headlight bulb. I've seen it come on over a gas cap not being screwed on tightly enough. I've seen it come on over an oxygen sensor needing to be replaced. The last time my service engine light came on I poured in some good gas cleaner from AutoZone and that took care of it. In other words, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. Unfortunately, you lose the use of your fog light bulbs when you turn your brights on. I hate that too - that is how GM designed it though. Also, I want to correct a previous poster. The service engine light does not come on when you need your oil changed. That would be the 'change oil' light that comes on. There is a reset button to make that light go away. In conclusion, I don't think you have as big of a problem as you think you have. People who tell you to junk your car over these kinds of things are stupid. My wife has a Mazda Protege and the service engine light came on in her car the other day - why? Gas cap wasn't screwed on tightly enough. It doesn't take much for these lights to be triggered. I've heard before that the yellow lights (like service engine soon or change oil) mean that something needs to be attended to but it's NOT critical. However, if the red lights come on (like check engine or check oil) then you had better pull over and stop the engine because something serious is amiss. I don't know if that's true or not but I do think that it makes good sense when you think about it.

Does my tahoe have a rear locking differential?

Look in the glove box for RPO "G80".

Contrary to popular belief, you CANNOT jack the rear end up and rotate a tire to determine if a GM truck/SUV has a LOCKER (they did NOT use limited slip in the trucks!).

The Gov-lock does not work that way. One tire must be rotating faster (by 100RPM) than the other for it to lock up, otherwise when you turn one wheel, the other acts just like an open differential. The gov-lock ALSO DEactivates over 25MPH for safety, so you might as well forget it for mudding.

Not only that, the 8.5" gov-lock has a horrid reputation under hard use. Spinning the tires will kill them in very short order. Somewhere I've got pics of mine...installed a new motor in my Blazer (8.5" diff that had been in it for years) went around a corner on the street, got on the gas, and twisted my driveline into a pretzel. The differental carrier had broken in HALF when it tried to lock up, cracking the differential housing itself.

The 9.5" differential (also called semi-floating 14 bolt by some) I got out of a later vehicle to replace it was also a gov-lock which had been abused offroad by the previous owner, and while it is not destroyed, it stays locked up many times when it should be unlocked. Annoying when trying to turn as it drags the tire, is therefore noisy, and requires much more throttle to make a small turn.

In closing: beat on an 8.5" gov-lock, and expect to be replacing it. Far better (IMO) to replace the carrier with a true limited slip (posi to some) differential that will keep the axles tied together fairly well, but offer good road manners as well. Replacing the WHOLE axle assembly is costly.

What is the size of the sub woofer in a 2002 Chevy Tahoe?

I have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe, does NOT have the bose system. The rear sub blew and I need to replace it. Crutchfield and Best buy do not know the size. I have pulled it out and measured it. From speaker side to side it's 7 inches, and from drill hole to drill hole (straight across) it's 8.5 inches.

Any help is appreciated.

The early points type distributor is most happy with the standard of. 35 thousands gap …those are found in your pre 1975 cars and trucks with any motor factory installed. That gap is probably a standard of the auto industry and lots of other enginesThe post 1975 with the hei electronic ignition opens the gap up another .10 to 45 thousands gap. There may be some real late model coil pack type ignitions that are at the 60 thousand gap. But the first two mentioned are the best starting point i have knowledge of …. Make sure you have a idea of approx what year the motor is because a few of them require special irridium based spark plugs. And not the standard R45ts like most chevy small blocks normally use. Good luck i hope this will help you

You are right that the dash lighting dims when headlights are on in order to enhance night vision. But every car I’ve driven has had a way to adjust the brightness of the dash lighting, since it varies by personal preference and whether you are using the headlights during the day, at night on a lighted street or on an unlighted road. Until recently most cars had a relay switch that you pulled out about 2 inches to turn on the headlights, and the knob rotated to adjust the dash lighting. Today cars have rocker switches on the dash or a knob to twist on the turn signal. So they have a separate knob or wheel to adjust the dash lighting located somewhere on the dash, often down low and obscurely marked. Look around for it.
