MECHANICS: Where is the fuel pump relay located in a 2000 Mazda Protege ES?

My mechanic is trouble shooting some issues with my car as far as electrical issues causing the computer system to not send a message for the fuel pump to send fuel to the engine, but we checked the fuel pump and tested it and it was fine so they believe it could be something with the fuel pump relay. The only problem is that they can't find it in the car. It isn't in the fuse box under the hood or in the fuse box in the interior of the car by the pedals and we're having a hard time finding a website schematic that shows where it may be located. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look in the car or any websites that may help?

Look up your car on http://www.autozone.com and it gives you the parts info as well as some component locations. Press your red button fuel pump cut-off reset switch which could have tripped. See your owner's manual for it's location, often found in the trunk sidewalls. The computer turns the fuel pump relay and fuel pump on once it senses proper ignition, so make sure you have spark first with the spark tester below. \The fuel pump should run for several seconds when you turn the key to on, but not all the way to start. Once you have good spark, spray quick start starting fluid in air filter intake duct to see if engine fires, runs and stalls showing you have a fuel delivery problem.

Where is the fuel filter on a 2003 mazda 6?

Every car has a fuel filter. The problem is that you are running dangerously low on gas and the pickup is not able to effectively pick up what little fuel is left in the tank. The fuel pick-up usually sits abou 1/4 of in inch from the bottom of the tank and if you have less than a gallo of fuel in the tank, then it is very difficult for the fuel pick up to use what little is in there. Keep in mind that when you are driving the fuel in the tank is not stationary, it is sloshing around in the tank so if you only have a little bit of gas in there and iti s sloshing around all over the place it becomes very difficult for the pickup to suck it up. Just don't run that low on gas all the time and you won't ahve that problem. Keep in mind that if you run out of gas, you can destroy your fuel pump and that can be expensive.

The reason I am typing an answer after even 7 answers is because I have another bit of explanation that I read somewhere.If the car is constantly run on low fuel (i.e. fill to quarter of the tank and then drive till reserve and keep on repeating this refuelling style) then, the solenoids/coils of the fuel pump may get damaged. This is because the fuel in the tank helps dissipate the heat from the coils of the fuel pump. Hence this may lead to premature failure of the pump.

You see, when your fuel is warm, it is less dense and it burns more quickly. On the other hand, when fuel is cold fuel, it is denser and burns slower.
