I am wearing a 24 hour heart monitor and........?

You need to do exactly what you would normally do during that 24 hr period, including having sex, drinking beer, sleeping, etc. You need to be making notes, too. Hope everything goes well for you. Good luck !

Holter Monitors/24 Hour Heart Monitors - Washing?

I'm doing a holter monitor/24 hour heart monitor test at the moment. The instructions I got from the hospital say no showers or baths.

Am I still allowed to wash my face and hair in the sink?

24 Hour Holter Monitor?

Cheapest on eBay is about $500, but I guess you can pick up a used one for about half that.

But I have to tell you in all good faith, writing as someone who knows more about it than anyone in the world, that you'll be completely wasting your money. There's nothing a Holter monitor does that you can't do yourself, better and more cheaply, with a second-hand reliable automatic battery-operated digital machine.

But unless you know how to interpret the readings, it will be of no use to you, whatever. You'll not be able to make any sense of them, -honestly. Save your money.

Later Edit: OK, Then if you are going to pay out about $500 anyway, you might as well buy your own machine, and then can take as many readings as you want, -when necessary, and show them to your cardiologist . If you can capture the moments of skipped beats and light-headedness, then it might help

Having sex with a heart monitor?

Ok, so I have to wear a Holter monitor for 24 hours. This little thing just monitors my heart to see how irregular my heartbeat is.

I didn't ask the doctor since I had other things on my mind, but do you think I should have intercourse with it on so the doc can see my heart when I'm having...aerobic activities?

My doctor is having me wear a Holter Monitor for 24 hours, will it make any noises throughout the day?

It should not make a sound.  It is merely keeping a record of your heart's electrical acitivity.  You should have away to mark the recording should you experience and symptoms.  Usually a button to push, or just a piece of paper to write down recording time.  Note you have to return the device, generally, for the reading to be retrieved.  I'm guessing you are younger.  If you had Medicare you'd have likely received a King of Hearts monitor.  Only Medicare pays for that, a longer, sometimes weeks long recording that can transmit readings.  The holter monitors is a first line test, used more to rule out cardiac concerns.  It is rare we see something of concern, but not unheard of.  No worries for now.  It sounds like you have an excellent provider.

I was on a heart monitor for 24 hours and the report read rare isolated supraventricular ectopic beats what?

There is a particular part of the heart called the SA Node. The SA node creates an electrical impulse that travels through the heart and causes the heart to beat once. If an electrical impulse is created by another part of the heart, that is called an "ectopic beat." It is generally caused by an irritability of the heart muscle. Any number of things can cause this irritability.

The heart has four chambers. Two small chambers called "atria" and two large chambers called "ventricles." A "supraventricular ectopic beat" is a hearbeat that is caused by an ectopic impules that occurs somewhere above the level of the ventricles.

A "run" is a term that refers to a series of only ectopic beats with no beats from the SA node. This is usually not a good thing. Its good that you had no runs.

Basically the test said that in 24 hours, you had 5 heart beats that originated in a part of the heart that is not normal. That's probably not very serious, although it isn't normal. It may beed to be treated. You should talk to you doctor about whether anything should be done.

Any treatment would probably include finding the underlying cause of the ectopy and treating it.

What is a Holter monitor?

A Holter monitor is a continuous tape recording of a patient’s EKG for 24 hours. Since it can be worn during the patients regular daily activities, it helps the physician correlate symptoms of dizziness, palpitations (a sensation of fast or irregular heart rhythm) or black outs. Why the Test is Performed :To evaluate chest pain that cannot be reproduced with exercise testing. To evaluate other signs and symptoms that may be heart-related, such as tiredness, shortness of breath, dizziness, or fainting. To identify irregular heartbeats or palpitations. To assess risk for future heart-related events in certain conditions, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. To see how well an implanted pacemaker is working. For more information visit :Cardiologist In Pimpri, Wakad | Dr. Sachin Hundekari

How much does a holter monitor cost?

I'm in the Army National Guard but I didn't pass my Class 4 flight physical due to my EKG results being off the "normal" rhythms. Now I'm required to wear a holter monitor/harness for 24 hours and have a cardiologist sign off on me being healthy before they'll accept me for my job. So, I was wondering how much this would probably cost to get done. Also, I am covered under an 80/20 health insurance plan. Thanks in advance!

I have to wear a holter monitor for 24 hrs. What's the point of this monitor?

The monitor can be worn under your clothes, and the box is small enough to clip to your waist, like a pager or cell phone. The leads (wires) can be tucked into your pants so that they don't hang out and get caught on things.

The point of the monitor is to detect cardiac arrhythmias that might be occurring so infrequently that they cannot be detected with a simple EKG. ...but just because they're infrequent, doesn't mean they aren't important to know about. Many arrhythmias are benign (don't cause any problems) but others need the attention of a cardiologist.

Good luck. Hope things turn out well for you.
